Did 'every conspiracy theory' about Twitter turn out to be... true?

The so-called Twitter files, which, were written by a group of,independent journalists, given, access to internal company, documents, offer a behind the scenes, glimpse at how the federal, government shaped the flow of,information on one of the world's,largest social media platforms.,Whether or not the Twitter files, contain information that was, surprising to those already aware,of the thousands of takedown, requests the company receives every, month from law enforcement agencies, and the courts, or of the immense, challenges of content moderation,is beside the point.,Twitter files have brought important, new information to light.,They show that the company stifled, debate over important policy issues,by shadow banning certain accounts, for no good reason and then, misleading the public about it.,They show that Twitter was routinely, strongarmed by the White House and,the FBI into complying, with frivolous takedown requests,,and they provide evidence, that the intelligence community, likely influenced the decision,to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop, story in the lead up to the 2020,election.,I mean, to be totally frank,,almost every conspiracy theory that, people had about Twitter turned out,to be true.,So,is there a conspiracy theory about,Twitter that didn't turn out to be,true?,Conspiracy theorists are often, sloppy with the facts and exaggerate, what really happened.,But the information brought to light,by the Twitter files should be,alarming to anyone who cares about, free speech and a free society.,Government meddling in similar ways,on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram,,and Google Search.,How can we prevent the Internet from, turning into a centralized apparatus, through which state actors can shape, and censor public debate?,Here are three major takeaways, from the Twitter files.,One: twitter distorted, the conversation and misled the, public. Twitter had a system of,white lists and blacklists, that allowed its algorithms and, human moderators to turn, engagement dials up and down, based on their users.,It used this power to limit the, ability of certain groups and, individuals to reach an audience,,including conservative commentator,Dan Bongino, Stanford economist, and medical school professor Jay,Battacharya,,MNRA vaccine critic Alex Berenson, and the Libs of TikTok.,When asked if Twitter Shadow bans,,then co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey, misled Congress.,Social media is being rigged to,censor conservatives.,Is that true of Twitter?,No.,Twitter Shadow Banning Prominent,Republicans.,Bad.,Is that true?,No.,The company sought to cover by tapdancing around, the meaning of the word.,In a 2018 blog post, Twitter's,trust and Safety team wrote,"We do not shadow ban.,We were always able to see the, tweets with no follow.,Although you may have to do more, work to find them, like go,directly to their profile.",Needless to say, making tweets,so hard to find.,Digging through someone's profile is,the only way to unearth them is,what's commonly known as shadow, banning, or as Twitter employees, termed it, with an Orwellian flair,,"visibility filtering." The Twitter, files show the company's staff, became increasingly comfortable, using these tools to manage, the flow of information and, political discourse around the 2020,election. Regularly deploying, filters to limit the visibility of,Trump's tweets and many others, pertaining to election results in,the weeks preceding the January 6,riot and the decision to evict, the president from the platform.,Yes, Twitter is a private company, and it has every right to label the, tweets of Harvard epidemiologist,Martin Kulldorf as misleading, when he tweets. Statements such as,"Thinking that everyone must be,vaccinated is a scientifically, flawed, is thinking that nobody, should." But Twitter is still worthy,of our condemnation,,Dr. Battacharya was shadow banned despite, being a respected epidemiologist, from a prestigious university, and, many of his warnings during the, pandemic turned out to be correct.,And you can acknowledge serious, problems with the work of former,New York Times reporter Alex,Berenson, who, for instance, badly, misinterpreted data to infer a spike,in vaccine caused mortality, while still believing it's,preferable to have a public airing,of controversial and deeply flawed, arguments.,A better way to deal with speech you, disagree with is to respond,to it, as Derek Thompson attempted,to do in the Atlantic when he,called Berenson "The Pandemic's,Wrongness Man." Ironically,,Twitter raised Berenson profile,by allowing him to inhabit the role,of the oppressed truth seeker.,Two: The government is secretly, policing speech.,The most troubling thing about the,Berenson De-platforming isn't,Twitter's decision per say,,but whether it made that decision, freely. Was it done at the behest,of the federal government?,The Twitter files provide, circumstantial evidence that the,White House played a role when the,Biden administration took over.,One of their first meeting requests, with Twitter executives was on,COVID, writes journalist Davi

Dr. Fauci responds to Elon Musk teasing 'Twitter File' release

well we are still awaiting the latest, installment of Elon musk's Twitter files,or his must tease the fauci files many, are wondering where are they and what do,they say well Dr Anthony felchi, responding on a CBS News podcast saying, quote I have no idea what he's talking, about I mean there's a lot of,misinformation conspiracy theories, disinformation going on I have nothing,to say to him I want to bring in dpcm, capital chairman and CEO and former Uber,Chief business vice president Emil,Michael Emil good morning to you and, first off let's start with we'll get to,Uber in a second but let's start out, with this fauci uh you know look these,Twitter files have been pretty explosive, and what we had now learned is that the, government had no problem telling,Twitter and Facebook and Instagram what,to put out there and what not to put out, there fauci seems to be one of the most, controversial figures of this time frame, when it comes to Twitter what do you, think is going to be happening,I think I think what you'll see in the,Twitter files is uh regarding Dr fauci's,a little bit more of what we already saw, which is that the government was going,to Twitter and going to these other, social media networks and saying we want, this off we want that off we want that, off and and some of the things they want,to offer for pretty shocking uh they, wanted just you know some comedians off, they wanted uh they wanted to you know, push propaganda out about some of their, objectives to the American people not to,porn adversaries so I think with The,Foundry files what you're going to see,is a lot of government trying to say uh,to back up claims about Mass working, about the vaccines being foolproof and,so on and trying to Silence the Critics, who are questioning whether those things, were actually true and I think that's,what we're going to see a lot of in the, factory file deployment we should see, this week all right uh David Nelson jump,in here,uh Emil you know I'm looking at this and,it seems like uh you know Elon Musk is,kind of setting the stage here and it,seems like most of what we learned about, about Twitter in the last several months,is he's taken over the company is that a,lot of the worst conspiracy theories, have proven true and it seems to have, silenced some notable critics especially, from Stanford from the medical community,in terms of what might have been an,alternative way to handle covet uh any, thoughts on that, yeah I mean I I think you know what,we've learned is that,um what science is supposed to be is uh,people using facts and data to come to,conclusions and where the data is not, clear we want to hear different voices,so that we can come to the right, conclusion and we saw in a lot of ways a,wholesale uh effort by some parts of the, government to stop that critique stop, that debate and we learn now like you, said that many of these critiques were, true and I think that's bad for the,American people and I think Elon for, making Twitter uh more honest in that, respect and showing us what happened so,hopefully it doesn't happen again well, the employees that had the fauci fan, club we just showed that tweet to our, viewers I thought I was a nerd I would, never be in the faucy fan club I'll tell, you that I'm a pretty big geek uh,Bloomberg is reporting at least a dozen,Twitter employees working in the,Departments that handle content, moderation hate speech harassment they, were let go,what is Elon Musk doing at Twitter we,were talking about it actually in the, commercial break what do you think his,end goal is here for Twitter,I think the end goal is to,um frankly use as much computing power, and algorithms to take out what's,actually hate speech and actually he,doesn't want on the platform because,it's going to hurt advertisers because, people don't want to hear it because,it's incitement or fighting words or,things that Supreme Court has said are,not free part of free speech and, therefore it's hard to judge,um you know him taking out any uh,category of people or a number of people, not knowing what he's going to replace, them with I'm quite sure given the, technologist that he is and we've seen, what he's done with rockets and, spaceships and flying cars and, satellites what he's going to replace, them with I guess in a lot of places,we're going to see his computers do a,lot of this work there'll always be some, manual overlay but I think sometimes the,Press overreads into these matters and, says oh my God he's going to allow hate, speech on the platform that's not his, intent and I don't think that's what's,going to happen Okay Before I Let You Go,I've only got about 45 seconds on Friday,a judge ruled Uber doesn't have to pay,to excuse to raise New York City drivers, pay because the Taxi Limousine,Commission had not justified their case,Uber says taking on extra costs would, increase fares by 10 percent Drive their, business away but some are saying this, was really underhanded by the Limousine,Commission here in the city what do you, say, yeah the the limousine t

Elon Musk’s leadership is ‘eroding’ Twitter’s trust with users: Reporter

Elon Musk’s leadership is ‘eroding’ Twitter’s trust with users: Reporter

all right Twitter facing more chaos in,the New Year Bloomberg reporting at,least a dozen more staff cuts at Twitter,on the global content moderation side of,the business and workers already laid, off from the company are reportedly not, getting the severance that they were, promised employees detailing to Forbes, and wired the lack of communication from,Twitter about their Severance deals to,add to the Mayhem our next guest is,saying that Twitter's new verification, system to get that blue check mark, doesn't work Jeff Fowler Washington Post,a technology columnist joining us back, here Jeff it's great to see you again so,this new updated verification system, certainly has been or seen to have been,a priority for musk issues with it this,is the second time that you were able to,impersonate Senator Markey walk us,through how you were able to do it and,the biggest issues with this problem, yeah uh oops I did it again I guess you, might say,um what I did was uh I wanted to test uh,the claim by Elon Musk that his new uh,Twitter blue verification system would,be uh to use his words from a tweet, manually authenticated before they would, give out a check mark to an account so,they they said really they're going to,build trust back into Twitter with this,so I said okay let's check that so uh,once he launched this in in December I,went about trying to make a a fake, account for Senator Edward Markey from,Massachusetts and get a check mark for,it now I got permission from Senator,Marquis to try to impersonate him and uh,indeed Twitter had put some new barriers,up in place uh they made me wait a,little bit longer but at the end of the,day I was still able to do it I was, still able to get the account Senator Ed,Markey,um uh verified at no point did Twitter, ask me to show them an ID or to show, them an email or really do anything to,prove my identity other than hand them, eight dollars for uh for the check mark,at what point did they realize it wasn't,genuine and what does it say about Elon, musk's overall management of the, platform, they realized it when I published it in,the Washington Post uh and then, deactivated the account the same thing, happened back in November when I um when,I tried this experiment for the first, time with Senator Markey and a comedian,uh you know they realized it after I,published about it in in the post look, you know Twitter can say uh,impersonating accounts is against our, rules and we'll shut them down but it is,2023 and it is not good enough to just, say something is against the rules when,it comes to the trust and safety of a,social network we know that this, information, and has real world consequences and so,we have every reason to expect that that,Twitter is going to do better with this, especially when they're charging now, people eight or eleven dollars if you're,using an iPhone or for this privilege so,Jeff considering all this the lack of,ability really to weed out some of the, impersonation that is going on on the, platform right now from the consumer, aspect of things are you expecting a,backlash or how much do you think the, consumer tumor cares about something, like this, you know I think we didn't really talk, about it that much before Elon Musk came, along but one of the things that made,Twitter into the the cultural uh icon, that it is is that it became the, official place on the internet for, people to post apologies right and you, could go on Twitter and you could see if,there was like the screenshot of the, notes app of somebody saying oh I should, have done something or whatever and you, could trust that it came from them you, could trust that if a government agency, was talking on Twitter that it actually, was them or if a a corporation was there, talking uh under elon's leadership,Twitter is destroying some of that trust, that we have and that to me just is part,of eroding the value of Twitter for its, users I know that since um Elon Musk, joined you know I haven't you know quit,it in a huff yet but I'm I'm still using,it less because I think the chances are, higher than ever that I'm going to see, some information that's completely, fabricated tries to mislead me and not, have any way to know any better,so we're understanding that long tweets, really long could be rolled out next, month some say up to 4 000 characters, what would be the impact of that and and,Jeff you've followed this platform a,long time in any way has Elon Musk, improved the platform or the experience,on Twitter, well as for the longer tweets, okay maybe I mean I'm a journalist and I,write very long stories but it's not, something that that I've been,um you know uh holding holding out, waiting for uh so I guess maybe some, people might want it but that's not, gonna give me a reason to want to spend, eight bucks a month on on Twitter in,terms of other changes you know again I,really haven't seen Elon Musk focus on,the things that I think would really be,useful for people for example he keeps, claiming that uh that that Twitter blue,is going to reduce the number

Twitter files publisher: 'Every conceivable wing' of federal enforcement sent censorship requests

Twitter files publisher: 'Every conceivable wing' of federal enforcement sent censorship requests

and as we said we know about it because,of Matt taibi who has been at the center,of it he joins us tonight Matt thanks so,much for coming on so I I would just, offer audience,um your extensive reporting on this, which is on Twitter and on your sub, stack but to summarize having looked at,these documents for weeks now how deep, was the penetration of Twitter by U.S,law enforcement and Intel agencies,I think we can say pretty conclusively, after looking at tens of thousands of,emails over the course of these weeks, that the government was in the, censorship business in a huge way that's,I think provable now and not just one, agency really every conceivable wing of,the enforcement agencies of the US,government were in some way or another, sending moderation requests to Twitter, and in many cases those requests were, being fulfilled and they were coming, from everywhere from every place from, the NSA to the HHS to FBI DHS,and even what they call other government, agencies which I think is code for the,CIA so we have reports from all over, from States from police departments, everywhere,so that's prima facie illegal it's,unconstitutional government cannot, censor political speech it could not be,clearer our assumption is that this was, made possible because of Hysteria about,Russian penetration of our politics is,that is that your read of it,absolutely yeah I think the the thread, that I put out yesterday traces the, history of what happened particularly in,the fall of 2017 Twitter is somewhat, naively thought that they would not be,sucked into the russiagate phenomenon, they really thought this was going to be,Facebook's problem alone but when it,started to become politically very, difficult for them and people like the, ranking Democrat and the Senate Intel, committee Mark Warner the senator of,Virginia uh put pressure on them there's,an email that talked about how he was, pressuring them to quote keep producing, material for them ultimately Twitter, ended up caving and by the end of the, year they had an internal guidance which,I think is very significant where they, said publicly we will only remove, content at our sole discretion privately,we will remove content any content, that's identified by the United States, intelligence Community as a foreign,State actor conducting cyber operations,so if the Intel Community says we take,it down we're going to take it down, and and of course a lot of the people, who were censored were not foreign State, actors in at least one case that you, documented this was a journalist and I,have to ask there are a lot of different,non-profit organizations that purport to,defend free speech on behalf of,journalists I won't even bother to name, them but there are a lot of them, have any have any of them weighed in on,this and raised holy hell,no and that's been a profound, disappointment,um you know for me personally I I gave,to the ACLU for years I'm one of those, sort of died in the old uh liberals and, grew up that way I'm deeply disappointed,I think a lot of people uh who are sort,of politically on that side of the aisle, are missing the boat on this they don't,understand the gravity of the situation, they're thinking about this in partisan, terms it's not a partisan story this is,a story about the architecture of the, intelligence community and law, enforcement getting its hands on speech, and on the ability for of people to,communicate with one another through, platforms like Twitter and Facebook and, they're doing this in a very profound, way much more serious than I thought it,was at the beginning of this story and,in relative terms Twitter is a smaller, player when you have Facebook and Google, that that dwarf it in size I mean we've,got to assume that those two companies, are as penetrated as Twitter has been, don't we,yes and and there's evidence for that uh,certainly we've seen uh that they had, what they called weekly uh or monthly, industry meetings with the DHS and the,FBI uh and those included a number of,companies including Facebook in some, cases Wikipedia Pinterest uh there were,a whole series of companies that were, included in in these communications How,Deep The penetration goes in those other, companies I can't say but I do know that, they had very close Communications and,in Twitter's case the number of requests, that came in was really overwhelming, your previous guest Michael, schellenberger talked about how they, were paid three million dollars by the,FBI they were underpaid they were doing,so much work for the government in terms,of reviewing these documents that they, should have been compensated a lot more, for their work how can it be a free,Society or a democracy if law, enforcement and Intel agencies are, determining what we can say, well people are hiding behind the Fig,Leaf of well they didn't formally ask, they didn't demand that you do it but,um how much of an ask is it really how, voluntary is it really when the FBI or,the NSA or the CIA or the DHS come see, your company and presents you with an,Excel spreadsheet of

Twitter users vote for Elon Musk to step down as CEO - BBC News

Twitter users vote for Elon Musk to step down as CEO - BBC News

an online poll by Elon Musk on whether,he should quit his Twitter CEO shows the, majority of those who took part voted in,favor of the move the margin was 15,percent the billionaire entrepreneur, launched the poll last night promising,to abide by its results but he is yet to,comment since the poll's final result, well let's go live to Glasgow now and, speak with our technology reporter,Alistair Keane and Alistair these things, can always be quite fraught when you ask, your audience what they think about, something the question is what's going,on behind the scenes at Twitter, yeah let's just say don't ask a question, you don't really want the answer to,although as some people have been, pointing out perhaps this is the answer, that Elon Musk wanted we spoke to one, former employee there that said he's,been under so much pressure from, external forces such as investors at his, other firm Tesla who want him to spend, more time focusing on that company that, actually maybe this is his root out of,being the CEO of Twitter although of,course if he does follow through and, abide by this poll as he says he will he,will still ultimately be in charge just,a couple of months since he paid, billions and billions and billions of,pounds and dollars to be in charge of,the company and he will still own it,even if he appoints a new CEO as it,stands it's not really clear who the new,CEO could be at the same time as,tweeting out that poll Elon Musk said, there wasn't anyone coming forward who, could keep Twitter alive therefore there, was no successor so there's still no,timeline as to how long it will take, before Elon Musk really gives up the, control that he has as the boss I mean,Alistair in truth if we followed the, news around Twitter it has felt like, utter chaos the the sacking of mass, sacking of staff and The Exodus and uh,you know at the weekend we saw, journalists being thrown off and their, accounts being blocked and then, reinstated,um and and and then I saw something, where he went into a Twitter space at,one point to answer their questions and, then disappeared again when he was, pressed it does feel like like chaos at,Twitter it does and if you describe even, what you've described plus all the other, things that have happened it sounds like,we're talking about years and years of,Company ownership and actually it was, only in October it's just been a couple,of months that Elon Musk took over we,have seen uh new policies come in we,have seen and the people complain about, those policies we have seen some of,those policies uh be taken away again, even uh this weekend there was a new, policy that you wouldn't be able to link,to certain other social media networks, you wouldn't be able to say you know, follow me also on Facebook and Instagram, for example and then that policy appears,to have,um disappeared again so it has been very, chaotic it's a very chaotic for users, and it's very chaotic for advertisers, who pump loads and loads and loads of,money into that platform and they're not, really sure what they're getting from it,and and how long they want to continue, being in it so and this perhaps is an,attempt to bring a little bit of,stability to the company but of course, that will depend on who's appointed as,the boss I mean the other fact is,Alistair that it hasn't ever really been,a profitable company has it he's taken, this on board and it it's a platform, that that many journalists and and, public figures and policy makers use,um but but the the the sort of general, public uh you know on Twitter on mass, all of the time is not something that,we've really seen no and I think we,can't underestimate just how influential,it is as a platform for those reasons, the politicians are there um as,journalists quite often if we want a,reaction to a story and that's where we,know we can go and we will hear straight, from,um the horse's mouth as it were of the,the people that are tweeting and huge, organizations local authorities councils, governments use it to tweet out, important information we saw that during, the pandemic but you're right as for, users they're finding other places and,the users on Facebook for example is,much higher than is on Twitter people, are moving to tick tock there are other, social networks that are competing for, people's time and a lot of them are, winning and and I suppose that what's,not clear is what does Elon Musk want, this iteration of Twitter to be once it,was handed over from people like Jack,Dorsey you know what is Twitter now and,is it is it the the Town Square is it,something into the the future then that, that like WeChat that that everyone, starts to use, yeah he's spoken a couple of times about, the different um things he wants the, platform to be and freedom of speech, being one of the big things he says it,should be a place where anyone can come, and have a say even if those are things, that normally people weren't allowed to,come on Twitter and say because they, were perhaps deemed offensive or or,illegal his response to that was, actually you

New Wave Of Resignations Hit Twitter After Musk's Ultimatum For Employees

New Wave Of Resignations Hit Twitter After Musk's Ultimatum For Employees

or following developments tonight out of,Twitter the deadline has now passed for, employees to decide if they want to work, there under Elon Musk the new CEO told, those who did not share his vision or,were not willing to work intense hours,to leave the deadline was today at 5 PM,Eastern and employees were offered three, months of severance NBC technology, correspondent Jake Ward joins us now, with Moore and Jake depending on what, you're watching on social it looks like,a number of people at least are tweeting, that they're out and that they have made,no secret of their desire not to work, under these new conditions but what more, are you hearing, well Joshua At This Hour really what is,not happening at Twitter uh we as you, mentioned a few hours ago we're looking,at this deadline this ultimatum that,Elon Musk had put in front of his staff, essentially saying click here to commit,to extreme hardcore working conditions, and it was not spelled out in an,internal FAQ document exactly how that, might change for instance the benefits, you would have only that you would be,working harder possibly working weekends, the the ultimatum that he put in front,of people seemed to have been intended,to sort of weed out the people who, weren't adequately committed well, supposedly at this hour not enough, people have uh clicked that committal, button to basically keep the place, running what we are hearing from, internal Engineers is that critical, teams teams charged with the, infrastructure that keeps Twitter going, and again this is not just some company, this is the way the world leaders speak,to each other this is the way uh that, that police get evacuation orders out, right that site is in danger of go going, down because some of the critical teams,in charge of infrastructure are there, are supposedly walking right out of that, place here's another important thing to,understand at this hour uh Joshua is,that right now as we understand it an,internal email went out to everyone it's,been shared with our colleagues at CNBC,saying we are shutting down the offices,so the big Twitter HQ the iconic, building is locked out as of this hour, until Monday not clear why that might be,but certainly the paranoia we have seen, from Elon Musk over the last few days, seems to have been reflected in the, order to shut people out of that, building so tremendous resignations the, ultimatum does not seem to have gone the,way he intended it to and at this hour, that building is empty Joshua,so this is a lot of upheaval in a very, short period of time and for people who, don't know San Francisco that building, was the source of a lot of political, unrest because Twitter got tax breaks, from a previous mayoral Administration, including to keep it there on mid-market,Street in a more or less beleaguered, part of downtown San Francisco at the, time so there's a lot of unrest going on,at Twitter right now but Jake just a,little bit of context we have heard from, people in other parts of tech especially,Say the video game industry we're,grinding on software is normal right, where it is expected as part of the, culture that you're gonna work crazy, long hours you'll get paid well you'll,get great benefits but it's just de,Reger it's just sort of the way that, things are done this feel feels, different though this feels like it's a,cultural shift that people didn't accept, when they got there but now they're,being forced to accept to stay there do,I have that kind of right,I think you absolutely do I think we're,looking here at a big shift and you know,I can I absolutely understand to,somebody looking in from the outside, looking at this and saying how can these, people be complaining they're some of,the best paid most valuable employees in,the world right and the complaints that,we have seen in recent days that Elon,Musk and his team are scouring the, tweets of employees to make sure they, are not disparaging their former, employer you know that is weird for a,guy who claims to be a free speech, absolutist but it is absolutely normal,in Corporate America right uh you know,we at any company are required to not, disparage that company publicly so all,of that I understand what we're also, seeing however is a big shift from what, was really an article of faith in,working at Twitter that you were there,as part of a piece of big important,Civic infrastructure you were, theoretically trying to keep people, together we're talking about the, instrument by which world leaders who, have no other diplomatic channel to,speak to one another get the word out to,one another in Acro lost Twitter right,it is an extraordinary channel in terms,of what it does and it is largely unique,in this landscape at this moment I think, that the bargain that people who were, working there really made with, themselves was we're going to go and, work as hard as we can on this place in,order but because we believe in it then,Elon Musk comes in and begins talking, about how he wants to blow all of that,up he of course throws away the, verification syst

How Elon Destroyed Twitter in 2 Weeks.

How Elon Destroyed Twitter in 2 Weeks.

it's been just over two weeks since Elon,Musk entered Twitter's headquarters, carrying a sink and since then mask has, learned one huge lesson about social, media advertisers run the internet now,Elon seems like a fairly smart guy I'm,sure he kind of knew that already but it,seems that previously he didn't truly, grasp how real that is the advertisers, run the internet take YouTube last year, they made basically all of their 28,billion dollars in revenue from, advertising Facebook makes about 97 of,their money from ads while for Twitter,it's about 90 compare that to elon's,businesses Tesla famously doesn't even, advertise their products SpaceX,basically just sells their services to,governments via humongous contracts the, boring company seems to be a d2c,flamethrower business or something a,neuralink well it's been about 25,minutes on their website day and I still, don't really understand what they're up,to seriously though Twitter and the, world of advertising is a new space for, musk which may explain why advertisers, are so freaked out by Elon and why, they're abandoning the site in droves so,let's dig into what Elon actually did to,scare off the advertisers and why his, strategy to fix things might not be all, that effective,to understand why advertisers were, abandoned Twitter you need to First, grasp what sort of player Twitter is in,the digital marketing space and to put,it simply it's a minnow despite elon's,boasts about record-breaking usership, the site still has very few monthly, active users when compared to the big, dogs biggest of all is still Facebook, with 2.9 billion monthly active users, then there's YouTube with 2.5 and and,WhatsApp with 2 million rounding out the, billion Club is Instagram 1.5 WeChat 1.2,and relative newbie Tick Tock with 1,billion monthly active users so Twitter, must be coming up soon on the list right, well not exactly because meta has, another entry next with Facebook,Messenger followed by China's version of,tick tock do Yin then QQ weibo Kwai show,Snapchat telegram Pinterest and then,Twitter with 436 million monthly active, users now over 400 million people isn't,something to be sniffed at but, considering the cultural weight that,Twitter holds it doesn't have as many, users as you might expect I mean,Snapchat a company that Millennials, forgot about and Boomers just know for, their dick pics has more monthly active, users than Twitter does and Pinterest,Pinterest has more users too and you've,never heard anyone fret about Trump, starting a war via his home inspiration, board that's because Twitter has this, outsized influence because of who it,attracts politicians journalists Trend,Setters and decision makers now these, people give Twitter a real advantage in,some ways but it simply doesn't have the, massive audience that other platforms do,which circling back to my original point,is why advertisers have always, considered Twitter to be a fairly, insignificant player in the space it's,certainly a good place to Chuck a bit of,extra digital marketing spend but, ignoring some specific Brands and, demographics it's never been the primary, focus for advertisers and that puts,Twitter in a tricky spot advertisers, aren't overly invested in or reliant on,Twitter so if they get spooked for any, reason then they have no real motive to,stick around owned and this is something,we've seen on other platforms too,YouTube famously had its adpocalypse, when advertisers became increasingly, concerned that their brand names were, being placed alongside unpalatable, videos and advertisers quickly remedied, this by removing all of their ads from,YouTube but this was a big call YouTube,is massive rabbitisers billions of,people use the site every month and it,represents a huge chunk of AD spend so,if advertisers were willing to pull ads, from YouTube a site they rely on they're,going to be even more jumpy and cautious, when it comes to Twitter now to be fair,to musk as he said himself he hasn't,done all that much to scare advertisers, yet sure he's announced some weird, things he's made some odd political, statements and shared some boomeras hell, memes but he's not changed much to do,with advertisers and despite this, advertisers are still pulling their, money so why well Elon represents an,existential risk to advertisers what,he's promising a more free speech social, network is scary to them and if they got, jumpy when you choose ad placement risks, some dodgy pairings they're not gonna, love some of the even less brand, friendly stuff that Elon wants on,Twitter and even if that doesn't really, happen just the prospects of a wild west,Twitter is damaging Twitter's,advertisers very often bulk by ad space, well in advance so if they're worried, about the future of the platform they're,gonna buy less or no space for the, coming year now a lot of those sales, happen at big events like Twitter's new, fronts which happen before elon's,takeover but this year things went a lot, less smoothly at the events when,Executives were unable to reassure, advertisers about

Musk LOSES Half His Wealth; Tesla STOCK DOWN, Twitter Continues To BLEED Money

Twitter CEO Elon Musk has teased the, release of the fauci files on Sunday, musk wrote hope you're having a great, day one 2023 one thing's for sure it,won't be boring and one user replied, waiting for fauci files to which must, must responded later this week the faucy, files come as must faces a whirlwind of,bad press amidst reports that he lost, half of his multi-billion dollar Fortune, over the last year according to,Bloomberg billionaires index musk who, leads Tesla SpaceX and now Twitter saw,his wealth drop 200 billion dollars from,November 2021 through last month making,it one of the biggest losses of wealth,in recent history according to the index, that CEOs declined well stems from the,Dip in Tesla stock which was down 65,percent in 2022 despite the historic, losses musk is still very much a,billionaire posting status as the second, richest person on earth, yeah look obviously a lot of people who,do not agree politically with Elon Musk, were kind of taking a Victory lap and, have been watching Tesla's stock plummet, don't all those people quietest, billionaires to not have any money, anyway or something yeah I mean so it's,a double celebration to Triple, celebration it's perfectly ideologically, consistent but it's worth pointing out, that there are people who support Elon,Musk who are also Tesla advisors that, are not happy at all and who are, pointing uh to what looks like a,conflict of interest between the amount,of time that he's devoting at Twitter, and amount of time he is on Twitter and,the fate of his primary industry and the, source of his enormous wealth including, one investor Gary black tweeted elon's a,brilliant business leader he will, realize soon already it's not already, that his polarizing political views are, hurting customer perceptions of Tesla so,this is not someone who is anti-musk,it's someone who's an investor who, thinks that Elon is great but that he is,distracted and he goes on to say that if,he were to refocus all of his energies,on running Tesla uh it could be at a 3,trillion dollar market cap in five years, and there's many many more like that I,mean do you think that elon's statements, that he will in fact have done at some, point indicate that he is kind of taking, this advice to Heart yeah I don't think, the statements that you just read is,unfair whatsoever and to some degree it,seems that Elon knows this because he,has said that he's going to step down, and name a different CEO I think that, makes total sense he can own Twitter he,doesn't have to be the person running it,or coming up with all the policies or,responding to every single person on,Twitter who has agreements or at least, every single right-wing person which is,what he seems to be doing and I I see,how over time that's going to give the, perception of one-sidedness and could, hurt the other businesses so I I,understand what those other investors, are saying I think it's a good thing, that he acquired Twitter and has shed, some uh some light on what went on,during the previous Twitter regime we're,learning a lot about how covid, moderation was made about how moderation, related to a so-called election, misinformation was made I think this has, been these have been worthy, contributions to the public dialogue you, know concerns about who's doing it and, could it have been more transparent, maybe have some legitimacy but on the, whole this is a positive project that, doesn't mean he needs to be the person, right like like the guy literally in,charge of its day-to-day operation she, should find some someone or or a number,of people a team of people who share his, vision for what Twitter should be a kind,it sounds like that's a kind of Public,Square with a much higher degree of free, speech protections and transparency, around how moderation decisions are made, and that person can be accountable to,Elon Musk and hopefully accountable to,the users of Twitter and and whoever is,is involved in making sure it makes, money but that doesn't need to be Elon, and he can you know and be less, distracted that seems like a smart, decision so I hope to see that take, place and frankly there might be more, positive attention toward the, disclosures if there is a perception, that it's a little bit distance from,Elon who's become a polarizing figure, and that the files are being reviewed by,an ideologically diverse group of people, who can not you know can have their, biases less obviously confirmed with it,we all have our biases confirmed we're,doing this kind of research so people, should definitely watch if they haven't,already the segment we did today all, about the covid Twitter files drop I,wonder what you expect we might learn, additionally from a fouchy specific,Twitter file yeah so by fauci files I,presume they mean any Communications, that fauci himself had or maybe people,in his office with uh with Twitter I'm,not sure I I have no idea how vast those, are I I would presume they weren't,particularly fast that people we know, people from the CDC communicate you know,I've even reviewed so
