Illini Inquirer Podcast Ep. 445 -- Isaac Trotter on the portal, Illinois' offseason

welcome to the illinois inquirer podcast, and glad to have on our guy kind of our, college basketball go-to big ten, basketball go-to now that's isaac, trotter 24-7 sports how much fun are you, having with the transfer portal some, people aren't having fun but other, people are having a lot of fun how about, you try,i'll be honest man it's like it's almost, giving the regular season a run for its, money it's like it's so fun to like have, verbal commits open on tweetdeck and you, just it's like it never ends there's a,hundred different transfers and it's so,fun to play around with it it feels a,little bit like a video game right, you're like oh what would this kid look, like on that team or what would this add,and you can just kind of see all of,these different things and it's really, fun and i think it's really stressful, for coaches i think it's probably really, stressful for players, but i will say college basketball right, now is at the forefront of a lot of,people's minds in the off season and, that's a really good thing for the sport, and so it might be frustrating for a lot,of people right now but it's also super, fun because you're going to get a lot of,interest in it and a lot of people care, right now which other times it'd be easy,to get lost in the nba playoffs and and, some of the things that are going on,right now in the beginning of may, yeah i think there's definitely some, winners and losers in all this right i,think one of the big losers is probably, high school prospects right because, there are certainly a lot of,scholarships open right now uh but but, everyone wants to kind of keep these, open maybe not take the flyer on a,brandon lieb right like or uh matitz, vasil and maybe that's a good thing for,the coaches that they're not investing,in guys that that might not work out but,i think that's one of the losers i would, imagine the mid majors are mostly losers, here but if you're at the top of the, food chain that includes in illinois uh,and most of these high major programs it,seems like this is this is probably a,good thing for them because if they have,a guy who's not getting playing time or,won't get playing time they generally, leave and then you can probably upgrade,in the portal here is it,yeah it feels like there's no such thing,as a rebuild anymore either there's just,so many retools that you can do,i think that like the thought process of,spending two to three years to rebuild a,program has to be a little outdated now, with the transfer portal with how it's,popping you can you can change a team, round right away i mean we saw with iowa, state what they did but that was a,little bit of an outlier too right but, they're like you look at memphis they, brought in a lot of transfers sometimes,it doesn't work out texas brought in a,ton of transfers like oh man they're top, five team sometimes it doesn't work out,but if you get it right and you find the, right formula you can be really, competitive i think there's a difference, between building a team out of the, transfer portal that can win a national, title and building a team out of the, transfer portal that can be really, competitive and i think you can do that, right now so i think the floor is so,much higher because you're getting, proven guys and let's be honest there's,way more talent than there are spots, right now there's some really talented, guys that are going to some lower levels, like for example eric gaines is a kid at,lsu who was a jump out of the gym guy, like he was in the ncaa tournament, against iowa state he put his head on,the rim and blocked this shot in the, ncaa tournament and everyone's like oh,my god where is he playing right now uab, like that's that's what i'm talking like, there's like so much talent and so few, spots so i feel like the floor for some,of these teams is so much higher and you,can retool a team in a hurry, yeah how and you've been covering this, from a national level um isaac i'm,wondering like whose approach to this, has has interested you the most whose, approach are you like oh i don't know, what they're doing there because texas i,mean last year you're talking about i,mean i don't know if it's a if it's a,failure of what they did last year they, got a succeed they were relevant right, they were ranked most of the year, but a lot of people expect them to be a,national title and unc added a bunch of,transfers it worked out some of the, transfers themselves didn't work out but, brady manic certainly was a success,um so like what kind of approach are you, seeing that works and what kind of,approach are you seeing that doesn't,work, well the one approach it's kind of weird,it's like the team that's dominated the, transfer portal is arkansas and at the, same time i'm looking and i'm going what, are you doing like how are these guys, like hopping on board because for me i'm,all about fit,and potential and what minutes you could, get and that feels like that such stuff, matters more to me than hey i'm hopping,on arkansas because it's really fun to,be there and i really

WEB EXTRA: Jeremy Werner 1-on-1

i'm joined with jeremy warner with the, illini inquirer jeremy thanks so much, for being here today but we have a lot,to talk about a lot on offense we're,going to see maybe a little bit of a,quarterback competition going on bielema, says he knows who the starting qb is who,do you think we're going to see starting,on saturday against wyoming yeah bmw, won't tell us but i think every, indication is it's tommy devito the, syracuse transfer was brought here to be,the guy he has a lot of experience he,was here all spring got most of the, first team reps and from what i've heard,he's gotten most of the first team reps,uh during the fall as well so you know, brett beam playing a little poker hiding, his cards close to his vest but i think,he said today even that art sakowski uh,has handled this well bringing in the, transfer and he just wants the best, woods for illinois and i just think, tommy devito just gives him a more, dynamic quarterback he's able to run the, ball a little bit better stronger arm, than art sukowski so and he also just, has a swagger to him that i think these, players and coaches have really, gravitated towards who do you think,we're going to see as a breakout player, maybe some breakout players this year i,know he broke out last year but i think, isaiah williams has another level that,he can get to especially in a different, offense i thought you know he should, have been used more in tony peterson's,offense which is part of why tony, peterson is no longer the play caller, but you saw last year when we saw utsa, here zakari franklin got the ball over, and over and found a way to get the ball,in space i expect isaiah williams to get,the ball jet sweeps handoffs you know, being in the slot quick routes i expect, him to get the ball a lot but also at,wide receiver pat bryant a sophomore who, played a lot last year gives him a,bigger body physical and also brian, hightower kind of a guy we forget about, sometimes because 2020 had a good year, led the team with three touchdown, receptions and that pandemic shortened, the year but he's about 6'4 220 pounds, and he had a really strong camp another, guy we forget about luke 4 gets a lot of,attention at luke uh a tight end but tip, ryman a former walk-on they glow about,he's the same size kind of looks similar,in uh you know helmet and shoulder pads,as luke ford big physical guy can block, and they seem to think he's coming along,as a receiver as well you mentioned, brian hightower and a couple other guys, that might be some breakout players but,who are some people you think maybe,we're not talking about enough that, maybe we should see you know coming out,of nowhere maybe i know we talk about, him a lot but chase brown do we talk, about enough because he has a chance to,do something very few people have done,at illinois he ran for a thousand yards, last year despite playing only 10 games, despite three of those games having, eight or fewer carries,so he had monster games couple 200 yard, games but there's only two running backs,in illinois history that have had 1 000,yard seasons back to back and that's jim, grabowski, and, robert holcomb so these are two really, good players like michaela shore uh did,not do that richard mendenhall did not,do that chase brown can do that so i,think we should talk about him but i,think offensive line is really important, for this team and getting alex palchesky, back to have him enjoying pearl in the, middle but a kid like alex pilstrom, who's not really a kid he's about 23,years old fifth year here sixth year, here but he's a former walk-on playing, center which is a really important, position in this offense and that ending, you know guys like isaiah adams zai, christler jucos that was really, important because that could have been, the biggest unknown coming into this, year with losing guys like veterinal and, doug kramer to the pros getting, palcheski back and getting those jucos,in likely to start at guard right away, could really help this offensive line at,least maintain a high standard, definitely and you know we have a couple, true freshmen that played last year you, know what do you think we're gonna see, this year do you think that there's,gonna be some true craftsmen that get on,the field uh the good part about um the, program now is unlike four or five years, going to lovey smith you're not going to,count on a lot of freshmen you have an,older team part of that is the coveted, rules part of that is the transfer, portal you don't need to rely on,freshmen right away but a local kid, aiden loffrey i think eventually will, have a chance it's going to be hard to,get carries with chase brown and josh, mccrae in his way reggie loves a veteran, chase hayden's a veteran but he just has,a speed element they don't really have i,think shawn miller a highly ranked wide, receiver who had a lot of power five, offers he had a really good spring, before suffering collarbone injury so,he's a little limited coming into this, fall but wide receivers were talking, about a lot of unknowns there sean, mille

Men's 4 x 400m Relay - 2007 World Championships

Men's 4 x 400m Relay - 2007 World Championships

up next the US men's 4 by 400 meter, relay team the u.s. swept the medals in,the 400 they try to sweep the relay as,well when we come by team will be,favored Bahamas also looks to contend, also for a medal here but this will be,about the United States and how fast, they can run they afford to,automatically much better legs and any,of the other teams and of course analyst,1 2 3 for the first time ever at a World,Championships in that individual 400,that puts them so far ahead of everybody, else on paper right and it's going to,take some doing this is the last event,so I have to start hoping against hope, this is our last chance guys for a world, record the world record sits out there, from 1998 to 5420 let's see if they can,get it,there's Felix Sanchez who runs the, leadoff leg for the Dominican Republic, here,in Russian team will be in Lane two keen, rock scene buildin runs their leadoff, lake with frolov sets car with an Alexia,Jamaica has Blackfoot chambers breathe,in air,and again the US lineup will be in Lane, five Merritt Taylor Williamson Warner, the Bahamas will be in Lane six, encore Matthew Williams and brown, and completing the field here in the 4x4,Germany will be in Lane 17 of Shoals, here,it'll be Poland in Lane eight, even fossil, and in the outside lane in lane nine, will be the British team, fiamma not alavés back in the warm-up,area a little bit ago talking to client,Hartley's Jeremy Warner's coach of,course coach Michael Johnson and coach,MIDI a great relay at Baylor University,in Waco Texas and coach Hart said that, the most important thing for this first, leg for LaShawn Merritt of the United,States is to run 44 low that gives the,United States a chance at the world, record if you don't get that 44 low out,of merit out on the blocks the time, issue would be gone and lose of course,he ran 43 9 and his final I remember, being there in 98 at when they sent when, they set this record if the first leg, sets up everyone else because what, happens is the subsequent legs don't,want to disappoint, after a good first leg so it'd be,interesting to see if he gets within the,44 flat range I think we're well on,course but it's gonna take 40 43 43 to,43 5 43 5 will get you the world right, and there's the start for the u.s. less,on merit runners the leadoff leg he is,and the Bahamas looked so good in,qualifying there'll be a cure by Chris,Brown who got fourth in that flat 404,right now as the 2001 world champion of,art mon coeur trying to keep pace with, the us out in Lane six,LaShawn Merritt giving the u.s. a boost,in the leadoff leg, turning into the home straightaway for,the first time still, their lanes, and it's the United States and the,Bahamas, the first Pathan exchange,in the US the first to pass the baton, the Bahamas second and Jamaica, this is Angela Taylor taking it out for,the United States they really are going,to have to put the hammer down bahama, slipping close behind and listen to this, split for merit 44 one so we go on so we,are on the world record pace hasn't,right now it's going to be up to Angela,Taylor to keep it going,Taylor has the lead for the US Bahamas,2nd Jamaica is third, the u.s. Bahamas Jamaica then Poland, bottled by Germany and Great Britain,Vuitton exchange upcoming Gerald,Williamson will run the third leg for,the United States like Jeremy Warner a,former Baylor bear and a huge pile up as,Great Britain caught up in a little,mix-up at the exchange zone that the,u.s. continuing to lead now with Darrell,Wilson who does not have the best 400,flat speed but of course a lot of,experienced gold medalist in 2004 in,Athens in the relay and 43 9 times for,Angelo Taylor in the United States,Darrell Williamson of the US still in,front Poland has taken second without,Jamaica retakes the second spot with,Lafleur green it's the u.s. on top to,make a second Poland and Bahamas right, together and then Russia here's the, anchor leg and Jeremy Warner the most, dominant 400 meter runner in the world, takes the baton hit the lead for the,United States,to make a chasing with : and Bahamas, right together, now Tommen Lewis only one man in the, fishery of the for my 40 meter event has, ever split under 43 seconds and that's,his agent and mentor Michael Johnson, forty two point nine four and I think, right now it's going to take something, close to that if we're going to have a,chance to see a record tonight the US,has the lead as Warner turns for home, bahamas second to make the third hole in,fourth and closing here's the home, straight away Jeremy Warner into the, home stretch for the league lead Bahamas,Poland and Jamaica it's going to be the,u.s. they're going to take all the, relays here at the World Championships,as Jeremy Warner crosses the line to,55.57,as expected the u.s. dominating, and the first time one country has swept, both the 4 by 1 and 4 by 400 relays for, both men and women, well you mentioned that final split by,Michael Johnson under 43 warner was,close,43 won unbelievable, and joined by the winning women's 4 by,400 meter relay te

Game Preview Podcast: Virginia faces physical test in Illinois featuring Jeremy Werner

Game Preview Podcast: Virginia faces physical test in Illinois featuring Jeremy Werner

hello and welcome to the good old, podcast i'm jack vancilly for wahoo's 24,7. and on monday we recapped the last, week's game on wednesday we broke down, the big headlines from tony anders press, conference today we're focused on the, illinois matchup against virginia uva is,traveling to illinois on saturday for,the first road test of the season this, will be tony elliot and his staff's,first road game of their tenure of the, elliott era and they would like to start,on a winning note now when you look at,this illinois matchup this screams, whoever, establishes the run is going to win this, game when you look at what illinois and, what virginia bring to the table you, realize that, yes illinois is going to use chase brown,as much as possible,he is one of the best running backs in,the country so that's going to be a key,is stopping him when you look at,virginia and what they didn't do in,richmond which was stop the run, effectively in that first quarter, especially got better in the second, quarter after adjustments and the third, and fourth quarter was better because, josh ahern was starting,so,richmond is just one game to really, evaluate how far this team has come, about stopping the run because josh, ahern is obviously going to be a big, piece when it comes to stopping the run, now, the good news is that virginia was able,to stop the run on occasion last season, when you look back through film they, were able to stop some big rushers from, accomplishing things that just that they, gave away big plays when you look the, game against richmond they failed to,stop the run effectively early on again, adjustments and adding josh hearn did, change things but they also didn't allow, big plays, that was a problem last year that wasn't,a problem against richmond that was a,problem even against lesser competition, when you think about it last season this, wasn't the case i think they only had,one or two plays one play one passing, play and one rushing plays, that was would be considered a big play,so that is a positive so that's the big, thing establishing the run for virginia, and stopping the run when a comes to,illinois,so the matchup is going to be josh, hayhurn nick jackson against, chase brown then it's going to be,virginia's inexperienced o-line,against an experienced illinois d-line,that is very physical this o-line is,going to have to grow a lot in one week, and good news is jonathan lee is,expected to feature a lot more in this, rotation i would say he would even start, this game against illinois on the road,so that is going to be a key matchup as,well it's going to be one in the, trenches virginia's defensive line is,going to get some needs to get some push, needs to create some pass rush, because tommy devito is not arthur, statkowski and we're going to dive in a,little bit more when it comes to,illinois after the break when we have, jeremy warner who writes for our, illinois site does an amazing job there,he's going to break down illinois a,little bit in more in depth, but archer syskowski was the quarterback, that virginia saw last season he was, more of a pocket passer tommy devito is,not arthur satkowski,he,can hurt you with your leg with his legs,as well as his arm so this is going to,be a different sort of quarterback than, virginia saw last season so a different, also offense compared to what they saw, last season so,when you are looking at this offense for, illinois you say yes they have chase, brown but they have a more effective, passer as well so pass rush will be key, because if your coach rudd you're,looking all right we need to step off,the run and force them to throw but then,we gotta make sure that they're not, effective in the run game because, illinois is coming in and saying we need,to establish the run,and we need to control this game clock, virginia's coming in and saying we need,to stop the run but we also need to have, this running game because we also need,to control the clock yes brennan, armstrong is a great weapon and you're,going to go attack them in the air which,is what they should do because that is,their strength but at the same time you, don't want to have illinois offense on,the field that long and have your, defense on the field that long so you,get gas so you need to have that balance, whether that word again you need to have,a balanced offense to be successful so,that is basically your cliff notes, version of,what the game preview to this game what, matchups to keep an eye on and what the, keys to the game are for both sets,um both sides of the field, but now we're gonna take a quick break, and come back and have jeremy warner, kind of dive into, what illinois has changed from last, season what expectations they have, especially after a heartbreaker they, just suffered against indiana obviously,i know virginia football i'm not quite,as knowledgeable about illinois so,jeremy's going to help us dive in deeper,on them as virginia travels with, champagne so stick around we'll be back,in just a few seconds, welcome back to the good old podcast, like i

Twitter is (Even More) Racist Now

Twitter is (Even More) Racist Now

we agree to abide by certain rules in,order to exist in society right it's,like saying this is supposed to be a,free country but I'm not allowed to,murder without consequences the hell is,up with that where's my freedom hello, lovely people my name is Emma welcome, back to my channel welcome if you are,new being a person with access to the, internet I'm pretty sure you're aware by,now that musk's Twitter deal has finally, gone through Elon Musk owns Twitter and,he's got big plans now the first thing,I'll note is that nothing has changed, yet technically with the platform it's,very important to remember that the, policies didn't get scrapped overnight,it seemed like a lot of his fans the, muskrats I like to call them a lot of,his fans seem to sort of think that, every overnight everything would change, you know Donald Trump was going to be,back on the platform and you'd be able,to say well we'll get into that bit, shortly but no it doesn't just change, overnight policy shift takes a while I,mentioned this because I think it's,worth noting given what we're going to,talk about today that you can still, report hate speech you can report, breaking terms of service hateful, conduct you can still report that it,might take longer than usual to go,through for a couple of reasons which we,will talk about but hate speech is still, banned on Twitter you should still be,reporting it and even if you want to you, shouldn't still be doing it because it,is banned and also that's just not very, nice what's wrong with you that being, said within moments of musk acquiring,Twitter the platform was flooded with, hate speech particularly racism mostly, racism a lot of anti-Semitism see to me,this all seems kind of obvious and,self-explanatory but whenever I've seen, somebody report on the huge spike in,racist content following musk's,acquisition of Twitter I've seen other, people muskrats one time I said Elon,Musk is embarrassing on Twitter that's,all I said dear God the comments I,received somebody kept tweeting me like,a mug to buy that had Elon musk's face,on it and said like greatest man in the, world and they kept sending that to me,and couldn't see how embarrassing they, were being if they weren't aggressively, hateful as well it would be quite funny,so yes a lot of reporters have been, commenting on the fact that there was, this spike in racism on Twitter the, comments whenever that is shared on,Twitter are full of people saying, everything from it's fake news to free, speech equals hate speech which is not,why are people and then whenever the, reporter is a woman or non-binary or,trans the comments are then full of,people trying to delegitimize them for, their gender it is no surprise, that the same hate mongers, that are excited that they can be racist, and anti-semitic again are also, misogynistic and transphobic that's it's,the same umbrella of it's Nazis it's,basically Nazis I am of the surprisingly, controversial opinion that Nazis should,be banned from social media platforms, and punched where possible it's,astounding to me that in 2022 that is a,controversial opinion punch Nazis the, fact that people are saying that made me,want to talk about this in general but, also maybe want to you know verify for,the Casual onlooker that no it is not, fake news Elon Musk is inspiring a,generation of hate speech and this is,not exclusive to social media it is,spilling into and combines with real, life I'll leave this Washington Post, article down below I'll leave everything,I,think is relevant down below so you can, read about it yourself this is just some,of the kind of content that came up,straight away this is a quote Elon Now,controls Twitter unleash the racial, slurs okay word and n word said one, account using slurs for Jews and black, people I can freely express how much I,hate n words now thank you Elon another, said somebody posted a single word tweet, that was just a racial slur and that got, liked 5 000 times and retweeted 700,times that particular tweet stayed, online for 16 hours and we'll talk about, why that might be in a minute One,account created this month included a,Nazi swastika as its profile picture and, retweeted quotes from musk alongside,anti-semitic memes another tweet showing,a video montage glorifying Nazi Germany, with the comment I hear that there have, been some changes around here was liked, more than 400 times there's a group that, analyzes social media messages called, the network contagion Research Institute, they said that use of the n-word on,Twitter spiked nearly 500 percent in the,12 hours after the deal was finalized it,is not fake news I will accept that yes, some people particularly on the internet, like to be trolls just to be trolls I,would argue that if you think it's,funny to use racial slurs just for the, sake of provoking people you're still a, racist but I appreciate that, they might not be hardcore into the Nazi, lifestyle all of them the problem is,even the people who are joking I'm just,a joke racist what world are we living,in even the pe

Elliot Page Opens Up About His Transition and Incorporating It into The Umbrella Academy

-Our next guest is an Oscar-nominated actor, who stars in the Netflix series "The Umbrella Academy.",The third season starts streaming June 22nd.,Let's take a look.,-Viktor, we could go home tonight.,Okay? And for the first time in days,,I'm feeling hope, so please don't step on that.,-Okay.,Come on. We have to be smarter about this.,We don't know enough about the Sparrows.,-I've got you. No one's gonna want to fight, against me and my tiny badass brother.,-No more improvising, okay?,We do things together from now on. Got it?,-Please welcome back to the show Elliot Page, everybody.,♪♪,♪♪,Ahh. -Hey.,-Welcome back. -How's it going?,-This is a fantastic show, about adoptive siblings with superpowers.,It's full of action. The clip did not show that.,I feel like this is a very spoiler-laden show.,So when someone like you comes on to do press, they give us,a clip that does not tell much about the show at all.,-Yeah, it's nice to keep it exciting and full of surprises.,There's great twists and turns this year.,So -- And I think it shows the balance of the show,,and it's so fun to make as an actor.,It's so fulfilling as an actor, and, yeah, we have so much fun.,-You also play violin on the show.,Is this a skill you had to teach yourself?,Because it looks very convincing.,-I most certainly did not teach myself,,and I was pretty horrible at it.,In my defense, they say it's the most difficult instrument,to learn, which I very much understand.,But I had an amazing teacher and a fantastic double.,And I just...,-That seems like -- -...did my best.,-It seems like the second one might be more helpful.,-Yeah. She was fantastic. Imogen. Incredible.,So what a joy to listen to her play on set.,Me? ,I'm sure the crew members, were probably ready to walk off set.,-Right. So, since the show started,,you, as an actor, came out as trans,,and then your character also came out as trans.,Were these conversations that you got to have with the writers, about the journey that your character took,,having lived that experience yourself?,-Yeah, it was.,And really with Steve Blackman, the showrunner of "Umbrella,",who's just incredible and such a wonderful person.,And so, when we first talked about it,,he seemed really excited about incorporating it into the show.,And an incredible writer, journalist, author,Thomas Page McBee, who I met doing a miniseries, called "Tales of the City,",he wrote an extraordinary book called "Amateur,",which I highly recommend everybody to read.,He was the first trans man to box in Madison Square Garden.,And his book and his work in general,,there's so much about masculinity, and what it means and exploring that.,So Thomas came on board and helped out,,and I feel proud of it,and excited for people to see it.,-One of the nice things is, your siblings on the show,,when receiving the news of the transition,,are very supportive and loving.,Was this something that you had?,I know you have run the gamut of having to respond to reactions,,both positive or negative.,Were the people closest to you in your real life,as supportive as the people on the show?,-Yeah, absolutely. So --,And I feel really grateful for that. ,I think most people weren't surprised or --,It's something I'd been talking about, with a lot of people in my life.,-I think that is really important to know,,which is -- So much is being said about this issue, from people who aren't experiencing in real time,or who don't know people who go through it, right?,If you know a loved one,,this news probably comes as less of a surprise, than those of us on the outside would expect it to be received.,I know that since you've come out as trans,,you've had to receive, you know, from the strangers,,from people who don't know you as a person,,some pretty negative reactions.,What has that journey for you been like?,-,Well, you know, what I want to focus on right now,and has been so extraordinary,is the degree of joy that I feel,,the degree of presence that I feel.,I feel a way that I really never thought possible, for a long, long time.,So that's really what I'm focusing on embracing the most.,But, of course, moments can be overwhelming.,Um...,I feel like it's one of those things where it's so unfortunate, because it's like we're all on the same team here.,You know? Whether you're trans, non-bin--,you know, gender-nonconforming, cis,,we all have these expectations, and these sort of limits and constraints, because of, yes,,sort of people's obsession, with, you know, the binary, and how we're all supposed to live our lives.,So, you know, to me,,it'd be so special for us to all be able to connect, and talk about how similar we are in all of our journeys.,-You wrote very beautifully in "Esquire",about the joy you feel now,and about how present you feel in your body.,Do you feel like that's making you a better actor?,I would imagine that you had to get through so much,to do a performance in the past,,and now it just must feel easier to go out and do work.,-It does, yeah. What's scarier, space or the ocean?

What's scarier, space or the ocean?

would like what are you more afraid of,folks and this is obviously you two as,well because your podcast right, you're here you know that right man just, hijacking this show, anyway what are you more afraid of space,or the ocean,i have an initial response go forward, can i go okay,um definitely the ocean because, one it's just as dark as space okay it's,true it's just as dark, and two we know there's life there, like in space it's like oh like there, could be anything like maybe there's,other planets like people are more, frustrated, maybe there are others i'm sorry, what are we doing here from the bike a,little bit, they're just really strong maybe what i,implemented what i,meant to clarify maybe there are life on,other planets, maybe there's other planets hey i'm a,flat earther okay don't judge me,i'm a flat earther no i'm not a flat, earther the earth is round folks, okay just gonna just straight up tell, you that um,but no i think that like we know there's,life down there, and like that's crazy that there's life, that can survive where it's dark, and do you know what the pressure is,like on the bottom of the ocean, because pressure like it adds every like, foot that you go down, the pressure increases the psi like i,learned about that in physics and so,like at the bottom of the ocean it's,like, unreal pounds per square inch, okay so that's like it's like so that's,why like divers can only go,so far down because the pressure just, increases where it's like crushing, pressure,as you continue to go down so like you,can only go down a certain amount of the, like of the way but there's life forms, that live,on the bottom of the ocean like 10 000,feet oh yeah, they sent like uh i don't like probes or,whatever you want to call them,if they send those down there that don't,get crushed yeah you can send tech but,you can't send a human body down there, like what about if you're like you know,in like a what do you call like a,submarine type thing yeah, again that's that's tech and so it's,like pressure out you can, press your eyes just a regular human, down there, like you're not swimming down there no,no i could swim down there,i would i would beat my life's savings,on it i would pay good money just you,bet like, one percent of your life savings that, like i might do it just like but no,no i would not absolutely not i'd give,it one,you would never do it anyway yes the, answer is clearly, the ocean clearly the ocean okay here's,my only thing, yeah as i do generally agree with that,my only thing would be like how far into, space can we go,because like then like what if there's,way worse out there that we just, don't know about, that's what it's like what are you more, afraid of like what's more scary, but how often are you going to space is,this like, speaking how hypothetically like if i,could michael how often have you,and you're 22 years on this earth how, often you've been in space only three, times, how many times have you been to the, ocean or near the ocean the beach, okay yeah many many times it blows it,out of the water,so i think like i think there's a,different question there though like, what are you more afraid of as like, just a general overall like big, overarching fear or like what are you, more afraid of,like just thinking about you know like, just like in your life like what are you, afraid of in your life in my life,day-to-day life it would definitely be,the ocean right,i wouldn't i wouldn't even question that, but hypothetically speaking like if i,could go deep into space i'd be way more, freaked out about space, but there's your issue you're like, hypothetically, realistically if somebody goes all right,we're gonna send you you know there's,people living on the space station,if i put you on a boat and said all, right we're pushing you off you gotta, sail, the ocean for 30 days by yourself and, what kind of thing am i in,a boat whatever picture like but you're,not like have you ever read life with, pie,i'll do it again too let's say like a,little like a your standard boat like i,don't know like a standard, speedboat or something like a dewey sure, okay a dewey, like or the space station,or we send you in a vessel and you just, continually go out into space, see i don't like that i'd rather do the,i'd rather do the boat thing but then, you'd but then you'd orbit a planet and, you'd eventually come back come back,oh man dude that's way longer i'd,definitely rather do the boat, but you don't have all right when you,get eaten by a shark i'll talk to you, when you're literally just like, you know run out of food or you're,casted into the middle of,they'll give you they'll give you the, supplies like let's say it's a timed, journey 30 days you're gonna go,to jupiter orbit at your back we're,saying, push you out in a boat all right make, your way back oh it's not like 30 days, like you're out there for 30 days if,you're out there for 30 years yeah come, swipe you, correct,it's the ocean but not even, what i would say about space but i'm,gonna i'm gonna change it so on the o on,the boat

CHAMPAIGN ON ICE: Jeremy Werner and Deon Thomas give a preview of Illinois basketball

what's good illini, thomas and as always bringing you, nothing but the best here we are at,season two so of course we're bringing,in you know i guess a little bit of,collection of those that cover, illini sports other than myself and, tonight we have one of the absolute, best i mean jeremy warren there is the,uh i guess i wouldn't say producer but,he has his podcast at jeremy warner he's,also the line iron choir he also has 24,7 sports this man is everything and, everything everything in all things i,think that sounds a little bit better, everything in all things lionized sports, covers football covers basketball so who, better to have in today's conversation, since there was such big news broke, today, jeremy i appreciate you for joining me,my man welcome to champagne on ice, what an intro i don't think i'm,deserving of that from the all-time,winning score at illinois but i,appreciate it dion and uh for all the, times you came on with me radio, podcasting i i feel like yeah oh yeah so,anytime you uh text it's like yep i i,will come on plus yeah you picked a good, timing with the kofi cobra news today to,chat to milan at basketball oh yeah it,is man and we'll get into that but yeah,i know you've been covering the team for, many years and you've seen this year's,team now in a couple of exhibitions you, know the first one of course was against, the saint francis team was the naia team, and then we have this one against, indiana uh pennsylvania which is the, very very good uh division two program, tell me what are your thoughts right now, early on about this team, yeah i think it's gonna be it's a,talented team dionne i think we're,excited about these pieces that brad, underwood has and it should be a very, very good team eventually but i do think,it's going to be interesting to see how, these pieces fit them together and how, brad underwood, kind of figures out who should i start, what's our rotation going to be uh how,how do we fit omar payne and alfonso, plummer into here how do we consistently, defend uh with this team because i think, that's his focus right now because part,of what made last year's team so good uh,was its ability to defend uh every night, and give yourself a chance and i think, this team might be a little bit more, inconsistent with that uh but eventually,i think brad underwood will coach it out,of them but i do think you got you felt, good you got in front of fans you you, felt the lights against saint francis, and you blow them out as you should but, then brad got exactly what he wanted in,that d2 test uh from indiana pa which to,be honest with you i think showed a,little bit of the flaw of illinois of of,guarding big guards and with trent, frazier suffering suffering that injury,um you only got one primary ball handler, when trent was out so that is a concern, for this team but i think it kind of,humbled that team of i think every team, that comes in with a ranking probably, has to feel that i know purdue had an,exhibition game where they didn't play,as well as they wanted to play um so i i,think these are the necessary things you, want to get out of an exhibition that, hey you got to bring it every night, because the other team's shooting for,you you are now a top 15 team and people, are going to try and beat you so,arkansas state jackson state they are, going to play like it's your their super, bowl and even marquette um early on like, that is a huge home game for them to,kind of you know show something to the, country show something to to their fans,so i think they learned a valuable, lesson even though this is an,experienced team it's a different team, than last year so i think the exhibition, went exactly the way brad underwood, would have wanted it oh yeah being a,former coach myself i can tell you, exactly yes because you want to win the, game of course because you don't ever, even if it's an exhibition game you, don't want to lose but the great thing, about it is you want great teaching, moments you want great tape and he got a,lot of that because this team was really, good it showed you, what would we look like if we don't have, trent and demante our super seniors on,the floor how do we operate when someone, takes or tries to take kofi away from us,what do we do because that team did a,great job of just sinking down into the, lane saying hey kofi coburn's not gonna, beat us so you guys have to figure out, other ways you know and one of those, other ways which wasn't really a,surprise to me and i'm sure wasn't a,surprise to you is coleman hawkins i,mean coleman has you know coaches spoke, highly of him since he's come in as a,freshman he's put on about 15 to 20,pounds i mean he was one of those kids, that i was hoping to see and i was, excited to see what that jump would be,so we saw him give me your thoughts on,him and what you thought your you know, and your thoughts on the rest of the, cast other than saying andre cabrello or,kofi or trent frazier we know those guys, yeah and i think you made a great point,of not having trenton damonte two guys, that c
