Michael Isikoff & David Corn On The Beginning Of Donald Trump's Relationship With Russia

well that's where it all began the Miss,Universe pageant in Moscow 2013 it,actually the the roots of that you go,back five months earlier to Las Vegas,Miss USA pageant feeder to Miss USA to,Miss Universe, that's where Trump meets these two,Russian figures eros aguillera off a,Russian billionaire oligarch I known as,Putin's builder tight with the Russian, president for all the building projects,he did for the Kremlin his son Eman, aguillera off a wannabe pop star and, then there's a third character who's,just yeah Rob Goldstone the British born, publicist and it is at in Las Vegas, where Aguilera comes up with the idea of,they'll have Miss Universe in Moscow he,can put up the money for it they'll have,Putin's approval Trump goes for it flies,to Moscow in November and he's there, ostensibly to promote the Miss Universe, pageant but his real interest is getting,a business deal with eros aguillera off,he'd want to build he'd wanted a project,in Moscow for years nothing ever came, through but now for the first time he,had somebody who was tight with Putin, somebody who had an in with the Kremlin, and so you this was a real opportunity, for him to build this Trump Tower in,Moscow solidify his position as a global, oligarch and in order for that project,to work he was gonna need Putin's,approval he know he knows that and he,spends all his time a flattering Putin,on Twitter in public statements and he's,obsessing on meeting Vladimir Putin in,fact as we described in the book his, question all during the day he's in,Moscow, the day before the Miss Universe is his,Putin coming have you heard from Putin, yet has he called yet and unfortunately, for Trump,Putin never actually shows officious, detail David about how Trump deals with, that in the end well yes because he,keeps waiting for the call he keeps, waiting for the call and it's not Putin, who calls it's Dmitry Peskov, who is Putin's chief spokesman it says,I'm very sorry the the president can't,meet with you but he's a big fan and, come back for the Olympics maybe half, the time for you then and Trump is,indeed very devastated or disappointed,at the least that this is not going to,happen but he tells one of his, colleagues Miss Universe in the, organization Miss Universe well you know, what we can do we can tell people that,Putin came no no whatever no you know, like he dropped by we'll just let people, know and and this person said they, didn't think that was the right idea but, here was you know Trump obsessed with, this idea of getting together with Putin, and it's also in this timeframe really,if you go back to when he announces in,June of 2013 that they will be holding,Miss Universe in Moscow in November of,2013 that he starts making a series of,positive comments about Vladimir Putin, beginning with a tweet saying will he,become my new BFF best friend forever, and he does this throughout the fog, leading up into the Miss Universe event, and remember at this point in time,Putin's reputation as an authoritarian, leading a regime in which dissidents and, journalists are routinely dispatched, with murder is well established and this,is right as the tensions of building up,in Ukraine and even after Ukraine, explodes and and and and Putin invades,Ukraine Trump is still out there saying, positive things about him because I,think it goes to this point he's not a,dummy he knew that if you take, pootin if you criticize Putin you're not, gonna be able to build a tower in Moscow,he won't let that happen so I think that, was what was driving him along with this, sort of identifying with the strongmen, and wanting to be he wasn't a global, oligarch yet but I think he wanted to be

American Psychosis, An Interview with David Corn

American Psychosis, An Interview with David Corn

I call the book American psychosis you, have tens of millions of Americans who, believe the election was stolen from,Donald Trump right they've produced no,evidence, hey everybody welcome to another episode,of the Jimmy tingle show I am Jimmy and, today's guest is not only a friend of,mine but he is a fabulous author and, commentator you know him from Fox and,CNN and MSNBC David Corn is an American, political journalist and author he is,the Washington D.C bureau chief of,Mother Jones magazine and is best known,as a cable television commentator, specifically right now for MSNBC now I,know him from his summer book events on,Cape Cod and for being an audience, member at many of my shows while he has,got a new fasten your seatbelt ladies, and gentlemen a new blockbuster Bookout,American psychosis a historical, investigation of how the Republican, party went crazy the book Chronicles the, long and deep relationship between the,GOP and far-right fanaticism and shows, how the Republican party for over 70,years has exploited and encouraged, extremism bigotry paranoia conspiracy, theories and tribalism it didn't start, with Donald Trump did you hear that, folks it did not start with Donald Trump, and what happened on January 6 was not,an aberration but the culmination please, welcome to the show The One and Only, drum roll please Mr David Corn hello,David, hey Jimmy it's great to be with you, thanks for having me it's great to be,with you David,I just love the reviews of the book I'm,going to get to them in a second but,it's so great that you've come out with, this work and it's going to be it's,perfectly timed but the interesting, thing that I was reading is you started, this book uh when it was a little over a,year ago,you know I had gone you know I was, interested in the relationship between, the Republican party and far-right,extremism how they've encouraged and, exploited it for for years not before,Trump and I went looking for a book I,said something that someone must have, written about this and I found that no,one had I found good histories of the,Republican party in a very traditional, way I found good political histories of,the 50s 60s 70s and 80s but I didn't see, anyone who really took a close-up look, and scrutinize how the GOP since World,War World War II has again and again and, again courted, you know far-right elements and done, this sort of very ugly dance and the, more I sort of,looked into this the more I saw there, was just a real obvious pattern here now,we see it clearly with Donald Trump but,if we go back to McCarthyism in the 50s,or we look at uh Barry Goldwater using, the John Birch Society to help run his, campaign in 1964. uh Richard Nixon in,1968 cutting a deal with white, supremacists to get the nomination at,the Republican convention you see Ronald,Reagan cutting a deal with the religious, right in the 1980s and embracing them, when they literally were calling they're,members of the Moral Majority were, calling for the execution of homosexual,Americans I know it's hard to believe, but they were saying this at that time, you know Ronald Reagan was saying the,Moral Majority is a great outfit and you, have both bushes working with the,Christian Coalition you have the Tea,Party and uh in in the in the 2009-2010,all leading up to Donald Trump that for,all this time period the Republic,Republican party there's been this dark, side to it that the party doesn't,acknowledge, and that the media and others have not, covered fully that this was a an,integral part of the Republican party,I'm not saying it was all that it was,Richard Nixon created the EPA he went to,China Ronald Reagan had all ideological, component cutting government cutting, taxes creating a deficit you know it's,not the the totality of the Republican, party and its strategy but it's always, always always has been there and it took,Donald Trump to put this out in the open,to take this this this dark history and, say, this is really what I am because he had,no legislation he had no ideas for, policy he didn't want to have a real, debate over anything he ran for, president as a guy who wanted to throw, red meat to the most extremist elements,he endorsed conspiracy theorists like,Alex Jones when he was running for, president what instance there was a,rally in which somebody shouted out get,rid of all the Muslims, and he said we're looking into that I,mean no holds bar you know didn't talk, about policy matters so it's always been, there and that was the point of the book, and I spent a year reading 200 or so,other books going into archives looking,at thousands of newspaper and magazine, articles and I was able to pull together, this pattern David do you think that, the the base then the base was always, there in the country I think is what, you're saying and then the leaders of,the GOP in order to win elections would, attach themselves to that base and say, whatever they needed to say to get, elected I mean is that basically the The,Playbook well yes and no I mean they in,some instances they did it very,

David Corn: I’m Not Surprised To See Republicans Using Afghanistan For Political Points

David Corn: I’m Not Surprised To See Republicans Using Afghanistan For Political Points

i will not repeat the mistakes we've,made in the past, mistake of staying and fighting, indefinitely,in a conflict that is not in the, national interest of the united states,of doubling down,on a civil war in a foreign country,of attempting to remake a country, through the endless military deployments,of u.s forces,it is not what the american people want,it is not what our troops who have, sacrificed so much over the past two, decades deserve,in his remarks on the u.s withdrawal, from afghanistan president biden, acknowledged that as commander-in-chief,the buck stops with him,but as he faces attacks from the right, and unrelenting criticism from the media,it's important to remember that this, withdrawal again didn't begin under his, administration it was biden's,predecessor who not only set the plan in,motion but who continued to defend it,over just this summer,i started the process all the troops are, coming back home they couldn't stop the,press,21 years is enough don't we think 21.,they couldn't stop the process they, wanted to but,it was very tough to stop the process, joining me now is david corn washington, bureau chief for mother jones and the, author of a new newsletter this land and,tom nichols contributing writer for the, atlantic um one of my favorite, contrarians tom i want to go with you, first i find it ironic right the one, thing that sort of trump curious, liberals, liked about him and found una not, objectionable about him was this thing,he would say about no more endless wars, they agreed with that right and now it,is it is ironic in a way that it's biden, let me play this for you this is biden, voicing the non-sort of you know white, nationalist version of america first, pretty bluntly in his interview with cbs,uh with cbs take a listen, but then don't you bear some, responsibility for the outcome if the, taliban ends up back in control and, women end up losing them no i don't look, are you telling me that we should go,into china because go to war with china, because what they're doing to the, uyghurs a million uyghurs,in the uh out in the west in,concentration camps the responsibility i,have is to protect america's,national self-interests and not put our, women and men in harm's way to try to,solve every single problem in the world,by use of force,i mean like it or not tom i think most, americans agree with that, and that's why we're pulling out i mean, the the criticism here,is that biden is screwing up the, execution of an idea that everybody, wants to do,um and i and you know i think he's going,to have to own that i think this will be,a case study in a bad policy execution,of a of a,good policy, for a long time to come because the more, immediate things about are there enough, you know did we get enough people out,are there enough planes these are things, that are within biden's control and he,can't lay them off on his predecessor, but biden is right, that, you know the american people insofar as,they seem to care about this or when, they choose to care about it have, consistently said for three or four, really if you count the end of bush's,administration that you know to every, president we want you to leave this, place and every president says well i,i'd really like to but i can't because,of bureaucracy and alliance issues and, military advice and so on and biden, finally just said okay i'm going to give, you what you want and now there are, people saying well i didn't really want, that i didn't know that you know pulling, out was gonna look like this well there, was no version of this, that ended differently there were, versions of it that maybe ended with, less bloodshed and less horror and less, you know just chaos on the ground but,the taliban taking over this country, again that was what, you know the american public whether it,realized it or not that's what they said, they preferred over staying there, yeah and and also the taliban is not, like they're different now than they, were before this is how they are right,so this is what one should have expected, you know david the the thing that is,very difficult to listen to,is republicans you know, screaming that you know there should be,you know kevin kevin mccarthy, ripping the strategy calling for, investigations he won't even investigate, the january sixth insurrection, some other random republican jeff van, drew, saying biden uh kamala harris and, speaker pelosi all should resign, rick scott the guy who took a bunch of,money, his company took a bunch of money from, medicaid and medicare, and tricare serious questions of joe, biden's removal from office have none of,these people care about this,it's hard for me to listen to because, you had 16 house republicans vote, against more visas for afghan allies, they didn't want those people to come, here now they're acting like they care,so much about them you had uh the mike, pompeo posing in a picture with the guy, who's now running afghanistan saying, look at this great deal that we put, together this was trump's policy and, they loved it now they're deleting all, their t

David Corn on Donald Trump and Russia - the fifth estate

David Corn on Donald Trump and Russia - the fifth estate

you wrote a story one of the many, stories you've written about all of this, was entitled did Russia spy on Donald,Trump when he visited Moscow what what, led to that story well one of the oddest, narratives running through the 2016,campaign was Donald Trump and his, relationship whatever you might call it,with Vladimir Putin and Russia again and, again and again he made positive, comments about a fellow who both the, left and right in America agree, his repressive drugs thug who's created,an atmosphere in which his political, opponents and what I think very, personally journalists are routinely, killed if they challenge the existing, regime which is the Putin regime and, again and again and again he uh you know, made excuses for Putin who talked about, how much he admired Putin or how great,it was that Putin mired him and then, that was all before we had these hacking, episodes in which the Democratic,National Committee first and then John,Podesta the chairman of Hillary,Clinton's campaign were hacked and, material leaked to WikiLeaks and other, sources that was you know designed to be,used against the Democrats and in a way,to help Donald Trump's campaign so those, two things which could have been, separate but might not have been, separate were very very odd and bizarre, and got a lot of reporters looking at,the causation behind them and whether, there are any links between when people, were asking why is Trump saying these, things about Putin yeah one of the, theories was possibly he's been spied on,and he's been compromised well that was, yeah at first my belief and I wrote a,piece earlier in the campaign saying, that the reason why Trump was saying, positive things of Putin was because,he's an outright absolute narcissist and,a narcissist sees everything in the, world in the external world basically as,it relates,to him or her and since Putin had said, one or two kind things about Trump, probably as a way of needling Hillary,Clinton or wherever that made Trump look, kindly upon Putin he was on who, recognized his standing his brilliance,so I first thought that that might have, been it but as is continued on and as,the hacking became you became known, publicly and as it seemed more and more, likely that it was done by the Russian, intelligence services by design, probably that helped Trump himself I,started looking at other other, connections between Trump and Russians, and in Moscow whatever and I was put in,touch with a former counterintelligence, officer not an Americans from an,American intelligence service but from, the Western intelligence service who had, been asked to look into you know Trump's,business dealings in Europe and in the, course of doing this this person who had, previously spied on Russia for his own, service with his counterintelligence, activities focused on Russia I had a lot,of good sources in Russia came to the, conclusion when talking to his sources, that for years for five years or so,Russian intelligence had an active, program to as he put it co-opted or,cultivate Donald Trump and that could, mean a lot of different things it can, mean you know creating a partnership in,which they help Trump and to get, something in return and that's very, explicit or it could just be getting,Trump to look upon Putin in Moscow and,Russian interests in a kindly fashion, surround him with oligarchs who, complement him and make him feel some, kinship with a Russian ruling elite so a,lot of different ways that could be,interpreted and um and I got that story, out just a week before the election was,not much time for to take root but it,sort of played into what the hacking, story because it by that point there was, more and more evidence that it was,Russia,it was probably done by design to help,Donald Trump and in these memos that, this counterintelligence officer had, written up and had sent on his own doing,to the FBI he had said that he had, spoken to sources and Russia who claimed, that Donald Trump had been you know that, the Russians had developed compromising, intelligence on Donald Trump and we can,all wonder and Majan and that part of it,happened when he was in Moscow in 2013,for the Miss Universe contest which,Donald Trump owns and he made a big deal,of holding it in Moscow in 2013 this, your story was in October 2016 yeah not, long before there was a week before the, election and and more or less in that, exact timeframe Senator Harry Reid sent,a letter apparently to FBI director,James Comey saying that he had come into, information that they possess something, potentially explosive yeah about Trump, and that triggered by your report no he,actually sent that letter and earlier, but there's been reports throughout the, campaign that people associated with the,Trump campaign of advisers and aides to,Trump including his campaign manager,Paul Manafort has had dealings with,Russians all with Ukrainians who are, allied with Putin Manafort few early and, made a lot of money in advising, ukrainian president who was in you know,an ally of Putin and quarter-page a,fellow wh

Obamacan Republic | David Corn & Matthew Continetti

Obamacan Republic | David Corn & Matthew Continetti

hi I'm gonna corn and I'm Matthew, continent together tethered we're broke, login as TV TV hey it's great to be on,with you Matt I don't think we've ever, done this together although we used to,do a TV show together we did before it,was a roughly canceled before it's time,I guess my TV couldn't handle us on on,the screen together it's too much well, there was a lot of intensity there but,the problem was the local station, realized they can make more money, showing entertainment tonight the, weekend edition and they could showing,us and others talking about politics, then so who can blame them,oh you know it's funny that you, mentioned this I just watched the 1976,film Network last night and I never seen,it you're mad as hell I meant to sell it,I can't take it anymore, absolutely and you know I've never seen, the film though mike is amazing to me,actually how it kind of it really was a,prophetic movie I mean here's like the, meaning you write this piece which you, know yeah feel free to do and that, everything that movie predicted that, seemed so outlandish at the time when I,have been watching it saying oh my,goodness they're very pushing the, envelope here all that has happened and, more I mean right I mean they kind of,low-balled a little bit of what the, future media world would look like, absolutely yeah it was fantastic but it,is good B to be here with you and I,guess we'll get started today talking, about the front-runner for the,Republican nomination John McCain yeah, yeah yeah I am still puzzled over this, whole to do about conservatives and John,McCain NPR has been doing a series this, week speaking to such notable, conservatives thinkers as blend Beck CNN,talk show hosts who are just you know, teeing off on the guy and making it,sound like he is the worst thing ever to,happen to the conservative movement and,I understand the differences in some, issues immigration and so on but what I,don't get is of all anybody who was on,the Republican presidential horizon this, past year he was the only one of them, who did any heavy lifting when it came,to the number one issue for, conservatives which I thought was the,war on Iraq and he got no luck for that,I mean talk about you know ingrates it,seems that the people who've been, beating the,for the war you know I've just been it's,big as advocates a lot of them have, given him no credit at all for being on,front lines and actually working the, issue what I'll say this I think there, are plenty of conservatives out there,Beltway conservatives even some talk, radio conservatives who never really, liked the war in Iraq to begin with and, kind of did want it to go away I mean, there's that grover norquist quote, that's been around for a few years now, which is that you know Barack is in the, rear view mirror in any given election, then the Republicans would do will do,well but if it's in the windshield if,you're looking ahead down the road for, their involvement Iraq Republicans will,do poorly and there was a moment there I,think after those six elections where, the Republican Party at large and even a,lot of conservative kind of opinion, elites internalized that that argument,of thinking that while rock was going, downhill in 2006 Republicans lost,Congress we need to end our involvement, there of course bush bucked all that, advice and you know kind of adopted the, strategy that McCain had been advocating, since 2003 and now the situation's,changed but I think there's still a lot,of kind of reluctance on the part of the,Republican Party to even tout the, successes in Iraq over the past year in,terms of containing violence so he's not, getting any credit for that I really I,think fundamentally a lot of,conservatives have not a political, problem at John McCain they have a,personal problem with John McCain so,this is like going back to high school,it's going back to high school his wife, doesn't much evolved past high school,it's high school cafeteria, you know John McCain spends too much, time over at the Democrats table he,makes friends he makes friends with the,Democrats over there to that table and, sometimes he throws food at the,Republicans table he doesn't do that so,much anymore but the Republicans hit at,their table you know like any high, schoolers they they hold a grudge the, fact that the quarterback of the, football team doesn't seem to matter no,not at all and he's and so a so there is,I think kind of a personal critique of,McCain out there they don't like his, personality they don't like his, temperament they think he's too,self-righteous I think a lot of this has,a kernel a small kernel of truth well, listen the guy is a volcanic temper he's,very developed to work with I know some,I'm writing a story about some people, were talking about policy issue not too, long ago and they went and you know 20,groups went in to meet with him his, first words out of his mouth practically, work I'm right you're wrong what is,there to talk about I mean you know, ideologically all ideology aside that, doesn't really endear you to

FULL: Breaking down the Trump "hot-mic" tape with David Corn

FULL: Breaking down the Trump "hot-mic" tape with David Corn

i was given a video of donald trump, during a break in the deposition in the, trump university fraud case, and he doesn't know the camera's running, and he,and his lawyer dan petrocelli have a,conversation, here's my full commentary on this hot,mic video, let's see what happened job thank you,i feel like and you're not even, complaining and that,it's a tough record to get down now as,you can tell we can't hear everything so,well there's a lot of room noise so it,comes in and out what we can hear you, know bits of conversation sometimes, clearer than other, bits of conversation yeah you know we're,going to want the whole, yes don't worry about it i have been, under control, the lawyers for the other side have not, come back to the room, that's what they're waiting on that's,someone sort of friendly with that, yes so your name is,eileen,um,obviously trump doesn't look happy to be,here there's a chit chat going on,he's you know they they had a big blow,up,before they took this break he's waiting, for the lawyers on the other side to get, back,so he can get done with this and he is,suffering through this,is,oh,so you know they're arguing about how, long he's going to be there,um another hour today then two more, hours and another time, and i'm just looking at the transcript, here that we made of this,um you know he's well he's going to get, into, talking about the case, see now he just said and it's kind of,hard to hear he said, you know they made this personal they, made this person now he's not, talking about personal in terms of,attacking him,he's talking about the fact that he's,been held personally responsible, for the accused fraud at trump, university, and so he's asking his lawyer you know, how can this be a personal case,i have a corporation you know that's why,we have corporations so i can't be sued,it's kind of what he's saying and his, lawyer is saying well you know,um you know this is what happened and, this is how you know the judge did not, throw this out,and this is uh how how the case is going, forward,um but what do you say here that um,um you know everywhere he goes every, this is,classic trump right everywhere we've,asked they say how could it be so,personal,we've asked all these in other words,we've asked all the attorneys and no one,can get this no one can get this,um and you know you'll see,you know he goes on in the spain, you have one more shot, because they're saying i don't even get,so there he says i have hundreds of,cases and i don't ever get sued, personally, and the lawyer says well that's because,in this case, they are saying you are personally, involved in making false statements, and if you look at the video the, promotional videos of,for trump university at trump university,we teach success, that's what it's all about success it's,going to happen to you, trump university was one of the many, failed business ventures,of donald trump it was set up to sell, people the secrets of his success, but it didn't work out that way for a,lot of the people who took the courses, and they sued they sued donald trump, personally, because he put out promotional material, saying that he hand-picked,the instructors who knew how they could, teach, you how to be like him we're going to,have professors and adjunct professors, that are, absolutely terrific we are going to have, the best of the best and, honestly if you don't learn from them if,you don't learn from me,if you don't learn from the people that,we're going to be putting forward and, these are all people that are,hand-picked by me,then you're just not going to make it in,terms of the world of success, and now he's claiming well i didn't know, that much about it's classic trump, okay so that was hard to hear again but,now they're talking about the judge, george gonzalo curiel who's handling the, case, and trump asks his lawyer is he an, or and we can't make out what's,on the other side of the ore,and the lawyer says ladder i think, and then trump says you really think so,you know him a little bit don't you,and let's hear what the lawyer says you, know him a little bit,i did it again he said,he's from the wrong side of the aisle, too that's not helping,so he says he's an average judge he's,then he was appointed by a democrat so,that's not going to help you now the, next bit that comes on is,very intriguing let's see if you can, make it out,and um then i'll say what what tell you, what it is,so what trump says right after the, lawyer says, you know he's the democrat that doesn't,help trump says, what about the spanish thing then, there's some words that are really hard,to,to make out so the question obviously is,what's the spanish thing that he's,talking about, now you might remember a few months, later he accused you know he said, the judge was a donald trump hater was, after him, because he had been born in mexico his, name is gonzalo curiel, wrong he was born in indiana,so he wasn't mexican but this seems to,suggest that early on,trump wanted to make an argument maybe, even the courtroom, maybe in front of the judge that t

Michael Isikoff and David Corn Speak On "Russian Roulette"

Michael Isikoff and David Corn Speak On "Russian Roulette"

hey everybody welcome to build and a,special edition of skullduggery i am dan, climbing the editor-in-chief of Yahoo,News and the co-host of skullduggery, and we're here with the co-authors of,the of an explosive new book on the,Russia scandal Russian roulette the, inside story of Putin's war on America, and the election of Donald Trump, they are Yahoo News chief investigative, correspondent Michael Isikoff they're,also my co-host on skullduggery hmm and,David corn the Washington bureau chief, for Mother Jones magazine so I don't,want to go over your long illustrious, resumes I will say that these are two of,the best investigative reporters in,Washington they are what the military, calls force multipliers individually, they are amazing but put them together, and watch out the book is full of scoops, and revelations and everybody is talking, about it in Washington and Beyond, there's so much in it it's hard to know, where to start, let's start at the beginning so all, along the big question has been why has,Trump been so solicitous of the Russians, and of Putin and your very first chapter,I think really gets at that in a pretty, powerful way which is his November 2013,trip to Moscow kind of the roots of the, scandal in some ways so just tell us,about that Mike why don't you start and, then David well that's where it all, began the Miss Universe pageant in,Moscow 2013 it actually the the roots of,that you go back five months earlier to,Las Vegas Miss USA pageant feeder to,Miss USA to Miss Universe, that's where Trump meets these two,Russian figures eros aguillera off a,Russian billionaire oligarch I known as,Putin's builder tight with the Russian, president for all the building projects,he did,for the Kremlin his son Eman aguillera, off a wannabe pop star and then there's,a third character who's just because, yeah Rob Goldstone the British born, publicist and it is at in Las Vegas, where Aguilera comes up with the idea of,they'll have Miss Universe in Moscow he,can put up the money for it they'll have,Putin's approval Trump goes for it flies,to Moscow in November and he's there, ostensibly to promote the Miss Universe, pageant but his real interest is getting,a business deal with eros aguillera off,he'd wanna build he'd wanted a project,in Moscow for years nothing ever came, through but now for the first time he,had somebody who was tight with Putin, somebody who had an in with the Kremlin, and so you this was a real opportunity, for him to build this Trump Tower in,Moscow solidify his position as a global, oligarch and in order for that project,to work he was gonna need Putin's,approval he know he knows that and he,spends all his time a flattering Putin,on Twitter in public statements and he's,obsessing on meeting Vladimir Putin in,fact as we described in the book his, question all during the day he's in,Moscow the day before the Miss Universe,is his Putin coming have you heard from,Putin yet has he called yet and, unfortunately for Trump,Putin never shows his detail David about, how Trump deals with that in the end, well yes because he keeps waiting for,the call he keeps waiting for the call, and it's not Putin who calls it's Dmitry,Peskov who is Putin's chief spokesman, who says I'm very sorry the the, president can't meet with you but he's,big fan and come back for the Olympics, maybe half the time for you then and,Trump is indeed very devastated or,disappointed at the least that this is,not going to happen but he tells one of,his colleagues Miss Universe in the, organization Miss Universe well you know, what we can do we can tell people that,Putin came,no no whatever no you know like he,dropped by will just let people know and,and this person said they didn't think, that was the right idea but here was you, know Trump obsessed with this idea of,getting together with Putin and it's,also in this timeframe really if you go,back to when he announces in June of,2013 that they will be holding Miss,Universe in Moscow in November of 2013,that he starts making a series of,positive comments about Vladimir Putin, beginning with a tweet saying will he,become my new BFF best friend forever, and he does this throughout the fog, leading up into the Miss Universe event, and remember at this point in time,Putin's,reputation as an authoritarian leading a,regime in which dissidents and, journalists are routinely dispatched, with murder is well established and this,is right as the tensions of building up,in Ukraine and even after Ukraine, explodes and and and and Putin invades,Ukraine Trump is still out there saying, positive things about him because I,think it goes to this point he's not a,dummy he knew that if you take on Putin,if you criticize Putin you're not gonna,be able to build a tower in Moscow he,won't let that happen,so I think that was what was driving him, along with this sort of identifying with, the strongmen and wanting to be he,wasn't a global oligarch yet but I think,he wanted to be I think we should not, glide over one aspect of this trip to to,Moscow what would

Trump 'Is Merging MAGA With QAnon' Journalist David Corn Says

We Begin tonight with Q Anon the, conspiracy driven cult born in 2016 on,the idea that there is a cabal of,pedophiles including prominent Democrats, and media Elites running the world, drinking the blood of babies, and only Donald Trump can stop them they, also believe that JFK Jr is leading, their resistance movement against the,baby-eating hordes, despite the fact that he's been dead for, more than 20 years,at bonker's idea which used to be,relegated to the darkest corners of the, internet has now become mainstream in,today's Republican party they even got, some Congress members in the faith, that was evidence this weekend at a,rally in Youngstown Ohio where after, years of playing footsie with the, conspiracy theory Donald Trump gave a,full-throated Embrace specifically, during this disturbing and just, downright creepy moment, the Department of Justice that refuses,to investigate egregious acts of voting, irregularities and fraud and we have a,president who is cognitively impaired, and in no condition to lead our country, which may end up,in World War III,In that clip were you speaking like this, you can hear music that's almost, identical to the Q Anon theme song while, scores of people in the crowd lifted, their little pointy fingers in a salute, apparently a reference to the Q Anon, slogan where we go one we go all many, compared that display to something you, might see at a Nazi Germany or from a,Jim Jones cult gathering in the 1970s,but this was in fact a rally for a,Republican Senate candidate JD Vance in,2022,it comes just days after Trump reposted,to his fake sad substandard version of,Twitter a photoshopped picture of him, wearing a cute lapel pit overlaid with, the words the storm is coming a message, with dangerous implications one expert,on this topic told the Associated Press, the storm is coming is shorthand for, something really dark that he's not, saying out loud this is a way for him to,point to violence without explicitly, calling for it he is the prince of,plausible deniability,in fact just last week Trump told, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that,if he is indicted over his theft and, mishandling of classified documents the, nation would face quote problems in this, country the likes of which perhaps we've,never seen before, meanwhile Republicans are silent because, even though he's not in office Trump and, trumpism have metastasized throughout, the Republican party like a cancer so,much so that Republicans running for, office this November are taking a page, directly out of his Playbook The,Washington Post reports that out of 19,of the most closely watched Statewide, races in the country a dozen Republican, candidates have declined to say whether, they would accept the results of the, elections that they are competing in,joining me now is Will Bunch syndicated, columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer,an author of after the Ivory Tower Falls, and David Corn Washington bureau chief, for Mother Jones and author of the new, book American psychosis thank you both, for being here and will since you're at,a disadvantage of not being sitting here,at the desk with us I'm going to go to,you first,I read your piece today uh uh on this, mess this thing that happened in Ohio, and you know the title of it this Q Anon, flavored soundtrack to Trump gop's,fascist right turn should terrify you it,did terrify me,talk a little bit about this merger it,seems now a full-blown merger between,Trump and Q Anon, yeah absolutely and you know I'm glad,I'm glad you're giving this story The,Importance it deserves because frankly I,think the media struggles with something, like this because it's it's a style you, know it's it's not the words were, terrifying and you played some of them, but what's really going on here is,um you know a paranoid style a fascia, style frankly because as you said I mean,to see those arms raised in unison uh in,those fingers wagging uh you know really, recalled the scenes we saw in Nuremberg,in the early 1930s there's no there's no,escaping it and and we have to talk, about this because we're seeing we're,seeing the core you know leadership uh,base of one of our two political parties, transubstantiate from a political party, into a cult right before uh,um you know the um in this Embrace of,this Quasar religious theme with with, the music that they played,um you know and I think he's appealing,to Q Anon um uh well I mean it's first,of all is that is a it's just out of the, fascist Playbook to create a cult of,personality to try and save himself he's,having a lot of problems right now with, the documents probe with the January 6,probe closing in,um he has seen some of his support peel, off so he wants to make the hardest,Corps of supporters more Ravid more more, committed to him personally and frankly, you know with some of these cues like he,said we're willing to commit violence on,his behalf and and people need to be,paying attention to this and be alarmed,I mean it's warlordism right I mean,David what he's doing is because as will, said he's he's in t
