The medical mystery linking TikTok to an explosion of severe tics in teens | 60 Minutes Australia
it's not only strange it's very worrying, the isolation and anxiety we endured, because of covert is having a lasting, and unwanted effect on an increasing, number of teenage girls,it appears to have given them a kind of,tourette's syndrome they're ticking, uncontrollably, doctors don't understand why but there's,no doubt it's a very real mental health, condition, and even more bizarrely it seems popular, tick tock videos are playing a role in,it,for the young girls who are suffering, there's no filter, which is a way of warning you the, language in this story is at times, offensive,it hasn't been easy to be a teenager, these past couple of years, but for metallica torzillo life has been, especially hard,in 2020 right in the most difficult, months of covert the 14 year old began,to experience extreme ticks hi how are, you,do you have an appointment today,i'll get you to come over this way for,me involuntary movements and noises that, would soon hijack her every waking, moment,it was, offensive, verbal words and gestures, and it just got more and more, explosive, and all the time it was like from the, moment she got out of bed you knew when, she was awake because the whole house, was, loud from the moment she got up,to the moment she finally had her her, tics calmed down oh,there are good days and bad ones, but for mom melissa witnessing the, profound change in her happy bubbly, daughter has been heartbreaking, this, bright spunky you know, fiercely independent young girl, just trapped within her own head within, her own body it's really hard to watch, her, you were anticipating that one i was,you saw it coming, yeah what made you want to do that to,mum just then, her stupid voice okay no,you don't mean that though do you, diagnosed with both tourettes and a,functional neurological disorder, metallica sometimes has no control over, what she does and says,so how do your ticks come out is it,yelling is it hitting is it kicking how,do your ticks come out, yelling screaming kicking hitting, pinching biting spitting, you name it,yep, has it been a tough past couple of years, for you,a little bit, yes,i would say yes what's been tough, lockdowns and not seeing my friends as,much,do you feel trapped by your ticks, not really just a bit held back, well, time to die it was in the midst of the, stresses of lockdown that metallica's,seventeen-year-old sister charlie also, developed her own less severe tics do,you set each other off when you're,together does it get wet,if it's bad for her it's likely to set,me off okay and i'm gonna most of the, time,i'll walk away,so it's like not gonna set me off and, then make it worse for her and what sets, you off do you think metallica, everything, which means life at home can sometimes,be a recipe for chaos, god damn it,is it hard to sometimes tell, when metallica is being herself or when, the ticks have sort of taken over, sometimes it's really hard, there's,i missed that what was that, obviously it was funny, and she said there's a massive in,front of them, sorry, you talk about the microphone right,um forgot where we were now well this is,the thing i mean it's is it quite, unpredictable living with someone like, metallica it's very unpredictable and, some things come so left of field and,you can't help but laugh, but um,at least we had some fun moments in,there, metallica is at the extreme end of a,global mental health crisis that emerged, during the pandemic,a mysterious explosion of severe, physical and vocal tics affecting mainly, teenage girls, incredibly in some cases appearing, overnight completely out of nowhere, and sharing remarkable similarities that, have confounded the medical world, how do you feel when you look back at,some of the videos that captured you, during the height of your ticking,it it feels really strange looking back,at it because um,i was so different like oh gosh i can't,believe that that was me my gosh,it's remarkable just how far michaela, colby has come, these days the bright and cheerful 16,year old is pretty much tick-free,but two years ago she was in the, constant unrelenting grip of extreme, tick attacks, pissed, stop making out with my dog, michaela's ticks appeared suddenly and, without warning, much to the shock of mum nicole and the, rest of her family i was serving up,dinner i wasn't in the room but i heard, some weird, bang noise kind of,something's going on a bit of a yell so,i went in there and she's laying on the, floor and i thought she was having a,massive anxiety attack next minute the,arm flies or the leg starts to do,something and she's like i didn't mean,to do that so it was very scary yeah it,was,it was horrible, mexican, this home video captures that first, terrifying evening,as mickey and her family struggled to,comprehend the involuntary movements, that had started to take over her body,it was kind of like i'd kind of lost, that sense of like control, and, like just in that kind of moment and it,was just a really strange, situation yeah, michaela was rushed to hospital where, doctors were baffled,it would emerge she was suffering

Are Tics being Popularized amongst Teens on TikTok?
- Social media keeps us
entertained and connected, during this pandemic,,but is it also spreading
a mysterious illness,amongst teenagers?,Well, our investigative
Producer, Leslie Marcus, reports.,Take a look.,(background music starts),- The pandemic has us all
glued to our smartphones.,But while this amplified social media use,may appear harmless,,could TikTok be causing kids to tic?,Mental health professionals
worldwide are documenting,outbreaks of adolescents
who are picking up,Tourette-like behavior from TikTok.,Specialists say this
mysterious eruption of tics,is a case of mass psychogenic illness.,It can occur when people in a group, start feeling sick at the same time, without any physical or
environmental reasons.,Cases of mass psychogenic
illness are well-documented,throughout history,,such as the Salem witch trials of 1692.,But the most recent example
occurred a decade ago,at Leroy High School.,There, a group of girls started developing, unexplainable tics practically overnight.,A media circus ensued
that ticking got worse, and residents of the small
town in New York panicked.,I sat down with
neurologist, Dr. Jen McVige,,who played a key role in cracking,Leroy High School's medical mystery.,Now you were there when
this all started at Leroy.,- Um, I saw a few young
women come in that had tics,,but their presentation wasn't consistent, with Tic disorder or Tourette's,,it was more consistent with
the Conversion disorder.,So I started to put the pieces together.,This is mass psychogenic
illness, hands down.,- But some people didn't believe you.,- So there were some tendencies
to go to alternate people, like Erin Brockovich and
physicians that came into town, that said that patients all
had an infectious disease, called PANDAS.,But none of this panned out
in the laboratory studies, that we did.,- Did you determine a
cause with the Leroy girls?,- There was one person, that had legitimate Tourette disorder.,- I sat down with
Rose, who was a student in Leroy,at the time and was
blamed for spreading tics,to other girls at her school.,Tell me about your Tourette's.,- A lot of the tics right now
are a little bit more minor.,It's things like playing
with my hair or, you know,,small squeaks, small noises
that almost sound like hiccups,or coughs, things like that.,- Let's go back a decade ago, when you were blamed for causing
other girls to have tics.,- Other girls were developing
these weird tic-like symptoms.,You know, everyone kind of
pointed their finger at me.,- The school basically
ostracized you, can you tell.,- Yeah, I mean, there was, there was,a heavy level of discrimination.,They thought that it was me
causing all of this because,,you know, they didn't understand that,A: it wasn't me doing it,and B: that this kind of
thing isn't contagious.,Oh, it was awful, it was absolutely awful.,And it went on until
literally the day I graduated.,- Can you tell me about
that graduation day?,- (squeaks) I had,,um,,I'd gone in for graduation
rehearsal like everybody else.,After the rehearsal, I
was standing in the atrium, and the superintendent of the school, and the special education
chair of the school,,special ed chair,
approached me and told me,,literally word for word,,"Nobody wants to hear those
noises on their big day.,You're going to have to
wait in the chorus room,,watch on the monitor, and
then when they call your name,,you can come walk the stage.",And I was just, I was appalled. (squeaks),(background music stops)

As local teens come down with ‘tic-like symptoms,’ doctors say it could be linked to TikTok
As local teens come down with ‘tic-like symptoms,’ doctors say it could be linked to TikTok
(lips smacking),- My tics actually first started, when I was about seven years old.,- Allen Shoaff of North
Canton, suffers from tics.,- Too many to count if I'm
being 100% honest with you.,I have a lot in my arms, I
make a lot of different sounds.,- He was diagnosed
with Tourette's syndrome at 14,,and like many other
teenagers living with TS,,Shoaff turned to TikTok for Tourette, and tics content during the pandemic.,- When you see other people
ticing, it just occurs,to where your tics become
a lot more prevalent, and frequent.,- The social media platform became,a double edged sword for Shoaff.,- You know, there are times
where I'll be listening,to people give speeches or talking, about their tics and I'll notice, that my tics just start
happening more often.,- We have seen this at Akron
Children's Hospital firsthand.,- Dr. Katrina Lindsay
is director of the tic,and Tourette service at
Akron Children's Hospital.,Lindsay said referrals for tic disorders,in teenagers boomed during the pandemic.,- We're seeing a lot of teen girls, that are experiencing tic disorder.,And so while teen girls also
can experience tic disorder, and Tourette's syndrome,
oftentimes our neurology team, and myself, you know, that
might be the first clue.,- That's because Dr. Lindsay said,Tourette syndrome affects far more boys, than girls and tends to
develop gradually over time.,(boy growling),She said, based on the sudden symptoms,,this tic disorder boom does not appear,to be anatomical, but psychological.,- Self-esteem issues,
related to attention seeking,,or just seeing kids and teens
that might be going kind,of through the same things as them.,- In a common thread
in many cases is the use,of Tik Tok, which exploded
in a younger generation, during the pandemic.,- I do a lot of things, I do
a lot of grunts. (grunting),My most famous tic is. (grunting),I've had that one for a long time, and that's why my voice sounds
a little scratchy today.,(grunting),- Summer Hope, also
known as That Tourette's Girl,on TikTok has more than 2.3
million likes on the platform.,- Penny for your thoughts.,Okay, cool, I'll go first.,I have Coprolalia where I say cuss words.,And then I do a lot of
motor movements as well.,- An advocate and
influencer with Tourette's.,- I am struggling.,- Hope said that she's worried, about what is happening.,- It was definitely shocking at first.,And like, I did feel like a
sense of remorse that, you know,,if these girls or people
are picking up tics, because of watching my videos,,then of course I do feel, I do feel bad.,- Dr. Lindsay said many,of the new cases are being diagnosed,as functional neurological disorder.,And it can be exasperated
by TikTok's algorithm, that zeroes in on users' interests, and pushes that content into feeds.,- The first I ask is,,"How much time are you
spending on screen?",- So what should a parent do,if their teenager start showing symptoms?,Well, according to Dr. Lindsay,
first consult a doctor,,and then take a break from
social media and take steps,to alleviate any further
stress or anxiety.,- Because a lot of kids
with tics are walking around, like little stress balls.,- This can be painful, there are ticks, where I will punch myself in the chest,or growl really loudly, my throat hurts, for the next hour or two.,It's not not an easy
thing dealing with this,or anything else you
guys are going through.,- As for Shoaff,
he's come to terms, with living with Tourette's syndrome, and embraces it as part of his life.,- These people need to know
that what they're doing,by doing this in the
negative aspect by faking,or just making jokes about
people that do have it,,it's just, it's putting a hold,on the important conversations
that are helping students,at school, trying to navigate
having Tourette's syndrome, themselves, much less help
other people understand, what they're going through.,- In north Canton,
Melissa Reid, Fox Eight News.

- Leslie joins us with more
on her investigation findings.,Welcome, Leslie.,- Thank you.,Hi.,Good to see you guys.,- Such an interesting subject.,And I can only imagine,,you know for,,I mean the number of hits
on TikTok in the billions.,- Massive.,- In the billions,,this is huge right now.,So much has changed since
Rose was in high school,,our connectivity on social media,,and now we're seeing
outbreaks of tics worldwide.,That's being tied to the social media use,on TikTok alone,,several billion views on these
hashtags tics, Tourette's,several billion views,Yes.,There's an endless stream of videos.,And in the comment section, thousands upon thousands of
comments from young people,,wondering if they have tics.,- Ah you mentioned the comments.,I generally try to stay away,,but talk to me about that.,Share some examples of what
you saw in the comments.,- Well I love to read the comments because,(laughing),- For Leslie than the
comments are the real news.,- The comments tell the story.,And I just want to share
a few of them with you, that I found to be a
little bit concerning.,So one TikToker rights:,Whenever I see someone
in a video with tics,,I have a lot more tics than usual.,Another one says I have some vocal tics,,but most of them are British, because I only watch
videos of British people, who constantly repeat the same thing.,Then someone else writes,,I learned on TikTok about tic swapping.,And I didn't know this had a term.,I come across videos
of people faking tics,,and then it triggers a tic of mine.,And so these TikTokers
are also talking about,in the comments,,they'll feel a shiver in their neck,,and then they'll ask each other,,is that tics?,And they're all kind
of egging each other on,in the comment section.,- It kind of ramps it up.,- The power of suggestion.,- And not just the power of suggestion,,but why are they so suggestible?,Right?,Think about kids.,What's the one thing they don't want.,They don't wanna be different.,I want to show up,and be like everybody else.,So if this is happening,,hmm then maybe this is what I should be.,And then the other thing
that they're really good at,is that secondary game.,I'm normal, I get good grades, I'm cheery,,but this person's got a tic,and they got 2 million likes.,Whoa ho ho ho!,I mean, it's like catnip.,- Right, to these kids,it's how many views, how many likes,,- It's powerful.,- How many hits?,- Yep.,- Very powerful.,Well,,let's dive deeper into this
topic with the neurologist, who helped crack the Le Roy girls' case,,Dr. Jen McVige.,Welcome Dr. McVige.,- Hey doc.,- Thank you.,Hi!,- Nice to have you.,So what's most concerning to
you about this TikTok trend, that's that's being documented
in the billions worldwide.,- It's scary.,Cause it kind of has this reminiscent tone,of what we went through in Le Roy.,Um.,The hardest part about this is that, when you have an episode,of mass psychogenic illness,,usually it is contained in an area.,So a school or a factory,,if you look through history,,but this is something that is projected, throughout the world.,So from a physician's standpoint,,to try to control,or diagnose appropriately,or treat these people,,the thing that is most concerning to me,is it is so dispersed.,How do you control the situation
when it's so widespread?,- Dr. McVige, what are you
seeing in your practice, when it comes to this
new outbreak of tics?,- I've had several kids come in,and it's it's so much like Le Roy,because they'll come in and say,,you know, last night I felt fine.,I woke up this morning, and I started to have tics.,Which isn't really the
way Tourette's disorder,or tic disorder truly progresses.,This is usually something that progresses, over the period of time.,A lot of these kids are
coming in with coprolalia,,which is swearing.,This is something that is incredibly rare,in Tourette's disorder.,We don't usually see that.,So very uncommon.,Also many of the words they're saying,,just like that one person,,the comments it's British terms.,So I had one patient say beet root,,which is not a common
thing that people say,in the United States.,And so it really does not
fit with a typical picture,of tic disorder diagnosis,,or Tourette's disorder diagnosis,,and a lot of them having
anxiety on top of it too.

Teenage girls developing tics; experts link it to anxiety, depression, and TikTok videos
Teenage girls developing tics; experts link it to anxiety, depression, and TikTok videos
since the start of this pandemic there's,i can't even get the words out right i,want to talk about this story so much, that i'm getting all flabbergasted here,if this is the strangest phenomenon, teenage girls showing up at their, doctor's office with these strange tics, these strange movements and jerking, movements nobody could figure out why, until now according to a recent wall, street journal article doctors say all,the girls have one thing in common, they're watching tick tock videos of,people with tourette's syndrome which is,a neurological disorder that can cause, physical tics here to talk about this, medical mystery dr john duffy thank you,so much for being with us okay this is,this, neurodevelopmental disorder, and these girls are somehow, demonstrating even after just watching, them for a short time the same tics that, they see in people who have been, diagnosed with tourette's syndrome, correct what's going on so uh the way, this goes from what i can follow and, from some of the clients i've worked, with is a child feels depressed or,anxious they go to social media to look, for answers and support they find it,sometimes they find people like me who,are talking about like here's what you,do if you're feeling down,or they go to get some peer support, every once in a while they stumble upon,a hashtag hashtag ticks hashtag, tourettes and they go down the rabbit, hole for hours and hours i mean all of,us are guilty of that absolutely a,hundred percent but if you're depressed, anxious and a teenager there's this, perfect storm because you're kind of,suggestible and if you watch this often, enough you hear these familiar phrases,i'm really upset about this i'm anxious, about this i'm sad about this you start,to adopt, some of the behavior that is the, hallmark of that disorder this is,extreme yeah that does happen it's rare, but it happens we don't want to make, this sound like you know thousands of,girls all around the country are going, through this but there are enough cases,to pay very close attention is this, similar to when we would see studies on,you know video game violence and then, people being affected by not necessarily, going out and doing violent things but, having something happen inside you know, they're mood changing yes this is not,the first time we've seen this video,games,self-harm,eating issues there's been a number of,different iterations of this that have, not been so,behaviorally obvious what i think some,of these girls are finding with this is,it gets them the attention that they, need right so if they're if they're it's,a cry for help to some extent it's,terrible yeah and it's effective because, you ca the ticks are so broad if you've,watched some of these videos, you cannot ignore them so what should, parents do if they're concerned about, this number one but if they've seen, their daughter maybe demonstrating some,of these ticks what do they do yeah so,the first thing you want to do is get, your child to their pediatrician maybe a,neurologist make sure there's nothing, actually neurological going on,then have them see someone like me a,cognitive behavioral therapist so they, get some coping skills to manage all, this stuff because the root of this is,the anxiety that they don't know what to,do with their young developing minds are,at a loss for how to get help 100 yeah, yes and we need to listen we really need,to listen dr duffy thank you so much, thank you

Neurologist explains alarming link between COVID-19 stress and Tics in teens | 60 Minutes Australia
so russell you've been treating patients, with ticks for 23 years but something, different has happened lately, yeah,so yeah for 23 years i've been looking, after, kids with ticks, and most of the patients i see are, usually younger children when they start, ticking, and more likely to be males than females, and then at the beginning of 2020,things seem to be changing,i started to see more, females and adolescents who were, starting to tick for the first time, and although they had ticks their texts, were a little bit different, how different, well usually the, kind of ticks were of higher amplitude,so the arm movements would be larger, movements or sometimes even hitting, themselves what do you put it down to,well it seemed,a proportion of the young people maybe, half were saying they'd been seeing, usually on tick tock a few videos of,young women and young adolescents, with texts it's so bizarre i mean it's,hard to believe that simply watching a,tick tock video,is suddenly going to spur, tourettes or ticks in someone, well we think, the same children were watching similar, videos usually on tiktok, and some of these tiktok videos were, seen by millions of young people,in america in europe in australia, and these children the children i've,been seeing started saying similar, things to children in united states and,in europe and i think the pandemic has, been relevant you know why did this, happen in 2020 and so then it gets onto, the story of you know stress uh the the, factors of stress and the effects they, have on young people and how they, present with this unusual text,so why girls and not boys,i don't think we know in truth,it's possible that, boys are expressing, stress in a different way,so maybe we're just tuned into this, because it's so noticeable that maybe, males are, suffering or struggling in a different, way is it possible to develop something,so severe out of nowhere it's very, unusual and that's why it was so,noticeable you know it was it,was so different,to my usual experience of,young children with ticks and tourette, and that's what really stood out there, was something different going on is it,possible to fake something like, tourette's,well it is possible but that's not what,we think is happening this is what we,call a functional neurological disorder, and it's a good phrase because it means,um the hardware of the brain is there, but the way things are working and the,way things are functioning is not right, are you concerned by what you're saying,i'm,very concerned partly because this has, overwhelmed the system i think this is,just one example of the effect of stress, and the pandemic on young people, who we have generally not prioritized, young people,in the last two years, and young people and young adults have, taken a hit their lives have been, dramatically changed, lockdowns, social networks stress, uncertainty, this has been a massive problem i'm,deeply concerned and this isn't one, example of that problem the other reason,i'm concerned is,many of the people even a year or two, later this is still going on you know, some of the patients, have improved completely but many are, continuing to struggle, hello i'm tom steinfeld thanks for, watching 60 minutes australia subscribe,to our channel now for brand new stories, and exclusive clips every week and don't,miss out on our extra minute segments, and full episodes of 60 minutes on,a ninenow.com.eu as well as the nine now,app

TikTok Is Causing A Mass Psychosis
TikTok Is Causing A Mass Psychosis
in June 2019 Kirsten muellerval a,psychiatrist at Hanover Medical School, and head of its Tourette's outpatient,Department noticed unusual symptoms in,her new set of patients,to begin with all of them were teenagers, and they were suffering from Sudden and, uncontrollable ticks even though none of,them had any history of the condition, they were all shouting different kinds,of obscenities, mullerval consulted her tight-knit group,of global Tourette researchers and found, out that her newest patients were not, unique it seemed that a shift in,patients and symptoms was happening all, over the world and what was even more, surprising was that it was happening at,the same time, but what really puzzled mullerval was, that most were repeatedly shouting the, same phrase, you are ugly,as it turned out this phrase was the key,to understanding the strange spike in,cases, four months before the mysterious Global, outbreak a 20 year old German suffering, from Tourette's named Jim Zimmerman, launched a YouTube channel in a tick, tock page detailing what it's like to,live with his condition,he immediately became a social media, sensation Gathering more than 2 million, subscribers on YouTube and millions of,views on Tick Tock where he shows his, viewers how his condition can force him,to blurt obscene words or experience, uncontrollable ticks and convulsions,Zimmerman had the tendency to blurt out,the phrase you are ugly one that he,shared with all new style patients, suddenly appearing all over the world, after making this connection researchers, found that all the patients who suddenly, claimed to have ticks were also fans of,Zimmerman, one more vol confronted her distressed, patients and told them that none of them, actually had Tourette's most of them, recovered immediately, but despite their recoveries this case, presented researchers with an,unprecedented psychological mystery, showing how imagined symptoms can spread, purely from Tick-Tock videos, while these teenagers didn't suffer from,Zimmerman's condition something, triggered their minds to believe that, they did and all of the sudden all of,them simultaneously and independently, developed these Tick-Tock ticks, with Tick Tock becoming one of the most, used social media apps today it's,becoming even more important to consider, could Tick Tock be causing a mass, psychosis, before you answer that I want to take a,moment to thank the sponsor for today's,video Masterworks for all the progress, the human race has made on this planet,we still haven't figured out how to tell, the future as a result we're burdened, with the worries of what it might be so,to help future Generations we rely on,art to pass down our history and, information, thanks to Masterworks we can also rely,on to invest in the future, looking at the last two years it's,obvious that no matter how much we think,we know about the future we can never, accurately predict it even tech, companies that alter the way we live on,a daily basis have been wrecked by,volatility in the last year with experts, like JP Morgan CEO Jamie dimon, predicting that stocks could drop yet, another 20 percent, yet the value of art has been less, affected by this Carnage,Morgan Stanley reports that the average, painting is selling for 26 percent more,at auction than this time last year and,Bank of America believes High net worth, investors will continue to buy art, despite larger economic concerns the, logic is that Art's low correlation with, traditional equities gives the potential,to help insulate a portfolio from, volatility, the value of growth Investments of the, last 20 years might sink in the near, future but fine art from artists like,Picasso Monet and basquia who remain,Timeless and valuable, just check the numbers earlier this, month Masterworks sold a painting for a,17.8 return and have brought net returns,of over 17 percent to their investors on,seven of their last eight sales and, they're just getting started over 550,000 people have joined the platform so,far if you would like to get started, investing in your favorite pieces of art, subscribers of aperture get Priority,Access via the link in the description, you'll not only be furthering yourself, but you'll be helping aperture at the, same time,Masterworks offerings are filed with the,SEC to view all past and current, offerings click on the SEC Link in the, description,Mass psychogenic illness or MPI also, known as mass sociogenic illness is a,real occurrence where a group of people, starts filling real physical symptoms at,the same time even though there's no,physical or environmental reason for, them to be sick, the dancing plagues of the Middle Ages, were probably the most bizarre form of,MPI in July 1518 residents of the city,Strasbourg were struck by an,uncontrollable urge to dance,it started with one woman stepping into, the street and dancing for nearly a week, before she was joined by three dozen, others who also seemed to have the same, uncontrollable urge the town then hired, musicians to provide backing music which, only worsened the

this girl is trying to get swapped for a,covet test but her body is just not, letting her, eyes,oh God this is impossible this video got, tens of millions of views people were, fascinated in fact tick tocks that show, content just like this where people, probably share about their, uncontrollable movements or ticks it's,now a sub-genre by itself, and when I see bugs in my breath I,automatically got I must kill the bird, they have billions of views and they, call it tick dogs, but tonight farm this is not yet the, reason why we made this video the real,Mystery Begins when we examine what, happened to the teens themselves who, watch those clips because after watching,so much content featuring tourettes some, people started having tics in real life,so much so that over the past year some, clinics reported similar mysterious, incidents one doctor even showed I had,one patient say beetroot which is not a,common thing that people say in the,United States, the beetroot,a simple coincidence or maybe a clue to,the mystery update I got I got a new, check,um as as you can see ladies and, gentlemen stay with me till the end as I,answer the question can you get a,disorder from watching tick tocks, first let's define what are ticks anyway, ticks are short and sudden body, movements or sound usually displayed by,people diagnosed with Tourette's,Syndrome wow yeah, yeah they are often uncontrollable, and sometimes even hard to censor so,let's count together, whoa whoa, one two three, but to many people's surprise something, about the pandemic made it worse because, suddenly doctors from different, countries reported a rise in thick cases, especially among teenage girls some, medical centers which used to see one to,two cases monthly now see between 10 to,20 and one thing that patients had in,common was watching tick tocks of,creators with tick disorders so one tick, tocker writes whenever I see someone in,a video with ticks I have a lot more, ticks than usual I have some vocal tics, but most of them are British because I,only watch videos of British people who, constantly repeat the same thing, patience reportedly blurting out beans, just because someone said it on screen, okay, things certainly we cannot deny the, pattern here, going back to our question can you get a,disorder from watching tick tocks, well on one hand doctors acknowledge, that watching more tick tick tocks can, indeed trigger those who already have it,therefore they are advised to stay away, from this type of content but they also, clarified that many of those who, developed ticks during the pandemic had, also been diagnosed with anxiety or,depression before definitely more, research is needed but now at least we,know even if tiktok was not the only and, main cause it is still one of the, triggering factors, and this is so important to know no,doubt it's beautiful how social media, can educate people about different, conditions and project Nightfall will, always support making minorities feel, seen and empowered I don't think people, understand how painful ticks are when, people think a Tourette's say just think,of people swearing but it's a lot more, than that
