My TikTok Interview Experience in Singapore (and why I accepted their offer)

today's video is going to be a little, different,i want to share with you about an,experience i had recently, and i hope that it will be useful to you,a couple of weeks ago i was on linkedin, searching for a new job,and then i came across this role that, was posted by ticktop, talent acquisition specialist,i wasn't too sure if i wanted to join a,china-based company due to several, factors, one, cultural differences as i'm currently, working in a local company, and two, stability of operations as they had just, set up their office in singapore despite, these factors i also knew that i wanted,to,one work in a regional role, two,do tech recruitment, and three to find a job in the internet, industry,so i applied for the job, anyway, besides i found on glassdoor that they, paid pretty good money, about a week later i received a whatsapp, message from their recruitment, coordinator in china she scheduled the, interview with me over whatsapp and i,attended the first round of interview, the interviewer was a talent acquisition, lead based in singapore many of the, questions she asked were situational, testing for my problem solving skills, examples would be,if you had to hire 100 developers in one, year what are some of the metrics you, will use,if at the end of one year you have only, managed to hire 30 of your recruitment, targets what will you do next, what are some sourcing avenues you use,to higher niche positions, how will you roll out a staff referral, program,if your quantity or referral, applications are too high what will you,do to streamline the search to improve, the quality of applications, after the first interview, they contacted me again in about two, days,to arrange a second interview but the, thing is,they wanted to offer me a 12-month,contract role instead if i were to pass, the second interview, usually when companies do this, the likely explanation is that they did,not find my experience good enough for, their permanent recruiter role and they, have some doubts about hiring me for, that position,by offering a contract they can observe,my performance for a year, before converting me to a permanent role, this is a great solution for companies,if they have a candidate they are unsure,of,but they believe have potential to be,groomed,i was quite hesitant to say yes to the, contract role mainly because i didn't,want to leave my comfy government job,for something so unstable, but i actually went ahead with the, second interview in the end as i wanted,to find out more about the potential, renumeration they can offer, the second interview was pretty much the, same as the first and they asked similar, questions,a couple of days later i received, another message from their recruitment, coordinator in china saying they wanted,to offer me i waited two days for them,to get back to me and then to my,nightmare they wanted to arrange me for,a third interview with another one of,their talent acquisition lead they told,me the reason is that they have an,overwhelming number of candidates for, this role and we need one more round of,interview to decide,at the end all three interviews i,attended had lasted around 50 minutes, each, they were really thorough in their, questioning, one week later i received a phone call, from their partner recruitment agency, offering me the role,it was a one-year contract with plans to,convert me full time at the end of it,the salary it was a 20,increment from what i was currently, getting,i quickly jotted down the pros and cons,of taking up the row,the cons,it was a contract rule therefore dropped, instability, the benefits such as annual leave and, medical were way less than what i was, currently getting,i knew that this role would be a lot, harder and more hectic as the company, was expanding really quickly in,singapore, but what eventually led me to accept the,job and leave my permanent position, would be,one my boss said tick-tock she was, patient and kind throughout the process, when i voiced out my concerns regarding,it being a contract role and i'm pretty, confident that i would have a lot to,learn from her, number two it's an amazing opportunity, for me to step into the internet, industry, many of the fan companies i applied to,previously were not open to my,background as i did not have the, experience they wanted, and three of course the high salary, increment,it was a really hard decision for me,but eventually i decided that the pros, did outweigh the cons and i knew that it,was a step closer to achieving my career, goals, changing jobs is never an easy decision,to make, lay down your pros and cons like i did,and focus on your personal goals for, your career as cliche as it sounds ask, yourself where do you see yourself in 5,or 10 years time, overall i had an extremely pleasant, interview experience with tiktok and i,hope that this video will help you to,make your decision if you're currently,in a dilemma about changing jobs, you

This Tik Tok Star Just Ruined Her Career

This Tik Tok Star Just Ruined Her Career

throughout my entire academic career I,got consistently decent grades because I,did the bare minimum of just turning in,assignments when they were due but of,course I'd occasionally slip up you know,I'm human everyone makes mistakes and in,those situations I always did what every, cornered animal does I lashed out I I,showed my teeth and I threw the Hail,Mary so I'd always try and weasel my way,out or buy extra time through a little, white lie coming up with an excuse I'd,always try the classics like a professor,I'm sorry my report's not ready today,I'm gonna need a little extra time last, night I found my brother lying face down,in a pool of his own vomit as you know,he struggles with alcoholism and he was, about to meet his maker so I had to,improvise a saline drip solution in,order to save his life and things just, got away from me and I just I ran out of,time you know I I just try it because, why not there's no reason not to at,least try and come up with an excuse to,get a little extra time out of the, assignment but you know what there's,never an excuse for drunk driving yeah, you bet your sweet bippy all of that was,to say I have no respect for, drunk drivers at all I think it's,inexcusable I think it's unforgivable, like there's just never any, justification for driving drunk, especially not in today's world where, there's like uber Lyft there's like a,thousand ways of just getting a ride, home like Jesus Christ you could, probably find someone on Craigslist, that's giving piggyback rides out for 10,bucks like there's just always a better, way that doesn't involve driving drunk, and the reason I'm talking about that, today is because a tick tock star named,Amanda caravalla just lost her whole, influencer career because a very, embarrassing video has now hit the, internet of her DUI that she received, last year it's rough I just saw,a lot of people talking about it I don't,know the tick tock star but it's,apparently a pretty goofy video so I,wanted to at least see a little bit, about it,it's nothing crazy, okay I'm still gonna give it a chance, this intro is going so hard for no,reason, makes me feel like I'm watching Miami,Vice, what seems to be the problem officer, how long are you just gonna stay I mean,I think we can safely assume she's,sleeping here maybe knock on the window, are we timing her, yeah it looks like everything's okay, here,oh my God wait there's more police, officers oh you can't see it,behind my webcam there's more police, officers right here man this whole block, was popping off here, damn, everyone's catching the catching the, heat out here,I think we can establish that this is no,condition to be driving in,she's missed a full cycle already, they might run if he wakes her up that's,a really good point that I didn't think, about, that was actually a good point,so what's the proper protocol here, slasher tires so she can't like,we're gonna have to wake her up,eventually we can't just let her sleep, here all night,oh,I see so that was the play,oh,wake up put in park, she's like a zombie police department, put the car in park, heart,no,holy ,wake up,what is happening in there, this reminds me of the scene from the,Resident Evil movie where there's that, guy who says don't open the door right, before he gets like his head blown off, come park over here, yeah Amanda's having a real tough time, here staying in this corporeal realm, every time she starts dozing off her jaw, just falls to the floor like a dementor, about to suck out some happiness it is,it is like actually kind of disturbing,to look at I've been super drunk like, turbo intoxicated and I can't recall any, videos of me ever looking like that like, that is a different level where like, your jaw muscles stop responding to you,so this could be more than just alcohol,of course I'm not there testing her, blood or going over toxicology reports,I'm just speculating some pee brain, idiot Observer over here it just, looks really weird that her jaw is doing, its absolute best to escape her face she, starts looking like the monster from the,Amnesia game, man this is rough holy how long how, long do we stay in this standoff would, you mind opening the door for me,break the window I'm surprised they, haven't oh there we go excellent there,we go nice the police department hey, what's going on,take seat belt off how fast was I going,is that where you're at they're both, yeah checking out the seats I think you, guys are like, yeah what relax relax for a second, what happened do you know where you're,at yeah where,um at the decision after this at the, what I'm still living at the what at the, decision that go step over here hey,we're gonna go over here, what did you the ab and Simon, holy damn she is up,a lunch cap card nice astute observation, all right come over here maybe she's,sober what's your name Amanda Amanda, what's going on tonight he's talking to,her like a dog,yes how much have you had your drink, tonight,um,how much have you had to drink, nothing be honest what time is it three,o'clock okay three o'clock

I Left TikTok In 4 Months - Here's Why.

I Left TikTok In 4 Months - Here's Why.

day one at tick tock let's go,anyway thank you for taking the time,i've been thinking quite long on how to,say this and there's no easy way to do,so,um so i've actually decided to hand in,my resignation today and i really wanted,to take the time to chat with you and, share my reasons why,hi friends my name is jamie for those of,you who are new here it's great to have, you on the channel some of you may know,me as the person who put out a video on,the tick tock singapore office a couple,of months ago but yes i've left tiktok,in just four months and in this video,i'm going to share some of the reasons, why so i started my journey at tick tock, singapore in mid august 2021 i had just, left the safe google bubble after seven, years and i was really excited for the, change and to really learn something new,i absolutely loved my time at google and,i still miss the place very much, spending a good part of my early working, years at google basically shaped the way,i thought and worked but i wanted to see,you know what was out there in the big, scary corporate world and have a taste,of it so with google growing to such big, company i found my job scope becoming, more and more specialized,in all honesty i think this is quite, normal right as any company grows and, skills however i consider myself a jack,of all trades sort of a person and i,enjoy working on projects that require, more breadth of scope so when the, employer branding opportunity at tick, tock came along it really got my,attention,i heard that you know ticktock was the,new challenger and tag which kind of,combined startup dynamics and tech giant, skill and essentially what attracted me,was the fast pace of work the, opportunity to build things up from the, ground set up processors and kind of,like fix things along the way after much, deliberation i took the leap of faith, and decided to quit google and join tick, tock month one,of course when i joined i was really, excited you know we were welcomed with, some cool schweins and a cool bike dance,t-shirt and we were on board virtually,as well i took the first month to really, acclimate myself to understand how each, business unit functioned how the, organization was set up in general and, just took the time to get to know my,stakeholders my partners and teammates,i tried to get a sense of you know the, company's culture as well as to get used,to a new way of working, the company actually used their own, collaboration tool called lark, essentially it's a tool very similar to,slack basically everything was done via, pings we didn't use any emails, internally months to the three,as time went by i started to learn and, absorb new concepts of digital marketing, and employer branding i was making great, progress on you know helping my,stakeholders on recruitment marketing, and helping them to really close those, hiring gaps,as one of the weekends came to an end i,started to get you know the monday blues,i thought hey this is pretty normal, right it happens to everyone, right, but then this started happening again, and again every single week and i,noticed other things about myself as,well,i constantly felt tired i felt, incredibly drained by work all i wanted,to do was just sit back be a couch, potato and watch netflix i even lost my,sense of creativity and i lost the drive,to want to produce more tick tock or,youtube content,my physical health also took a bit of a,toll even though i was still training in,the gym once or twice a week just going, through the motions but you know i ate, whatever i wanted i snacked i drank that, sort of thing,i somehow also became this really grumpy, person who just wasn't happy you know, just just because, and that obviously didn't make me a very, positive person to be around and then it,hit me i wasn't happy at work and it was, draining me in more than one way,i started to think about what went wrong, and why i constantly felt so drained i,took a few days to journal and reflect,on how i was feeling and came to a,couple of realizations, number one,my scope of work which is employer, branding was not what i wanted to pursue,in the long run looking back at you know, the journey of my entire career i,realized that the most fun rewarding and, fulfilling part of it was when i was, actually working with students, most of my work in employer branding, however just didn't necessarily allow me,to work directly with students it was a,lot more of working with vendors, managing social posts you know ensuring, that our glassdoor scores will improve, and maintain that sort of thing,to add on the part i enjoyed the most, during my time at tiktok was actually, when i was managing my first ever, official intern hi amanda so i realized, that i really really missed coaching and, mentoring students, number two, lark was just not for me you know people, kept telling me oh you'll get used to it,after three and a half months of using,it daily i still wasn't loving it,i must say though as a tool it is,definitely smart in its own little ways, one of the features i actually miss

Why I just quit my Product Manager job at TikTok

Why I just quit my Product Manager job at TikTok

hi,i just quit my job at tick tock let's,talk about it,yesterday was my last year tick tock as,a lead product manager and i'm gonna, talk about why i left if you're new here, hello i'm chloe welcome to my channel, here i talk about career tips as well as,vlogs about my adult life i also post, regularly on instagram so be sure to,follow there for some life updates, before i dive into this all i just want,to say that my goal here isn't to bash,on people or the company i've actually, met a lot of phenomenal people leaders, directors that i do want to keep in,touch with forever and they know who, they are i also think that tick tock is,a very successful company and there's a,lot that the industry can learn from, them i thought a lot about whether i,should share this publicly because it's,so sensitive and risky to my career it's,always safest to say nothing but the, truth is a lot of tough things happen, our careers and we rarely talk about it,and so the same mistakes get made over, and over again and it doesn't help, anyone and let me tell you i have gone, through my fair share of toxic, unbelievable work experiences and i've,never spoken up about them and i really, regret it so in this video i want to,share why i decided to leave tick tock, and i hope that my perspective can help, someone else out there who might be,going through similar things so let's,get started for some context i joined, end of last summer as a third pm hire, the two pms before me quit i quickly, became the most tenured pm of the, department a lot of things happened but,it ultimately came down to four main, reasons number one lack of support in my,career growth i'd always been very, strategic with my career development i,have this whole template and i'm excited,to share with you on this channel so,stay tuned for that i also always have, these conversations proactively and i,ask explicitly i don't beat around the, bush i take my career very seriously and,i have the results to show for it too,how i normally approach this is that i,usually have a formal career development, conversation with any new manager that i,work with in the first month and then i,have that conversation every two months, after so in this case i had many career, conversations with the senior leader i,was working with and they were always, like oh yeah of course i will support, you and so two months before a,performance review cycle,i popped the question do you and the, leadership team feel confident in,nominating me for promo this cycle and, this person dodged my question for four, weeks in a row and finally in the 11th,hour they were like oh actually i can't,nominate you this other person has to,then i talk to the other person and when, asked the same question they were like,no your output is not enough and i said, can you clarify what is enough and in my,head i knew i was the highest performer,on the team so where was the disconnect, they said and let me read this i cannot, describe what output is the next level, because i didn't look at the leveling, rubric i cannot describe the work you, need to do because i don't know it you, should know it then convince us and, explain why it's important then launch, the project and when performance review, comes we look at your outcome and see, whether you are worthy for promotion my,last tip to you is don't pay attention,to your job level just do the work i,said i get it i'm all about that, entrepreneurial spirit but leveling is a,very real topic to discuss previously at,facebook i had sponsorship from a,manager but i got blocked by hrbp, because of leveling issues and i just, don't want that to happen here and then, they said without a beat maybe hr had a,different reason they couldn't tell you, maybe it's that you haven't demonstrated, the capability i said the vp of product, herself was sponsoring me and was going, through the hr hoops it wasn't an issue,of capability,a lot of other things happened but after, discussing with leadership about it we,concluded that it just wasn't a good fit,and they advised me to look around, internally for other teams and that they, would give me all their support, ultimately having been on the team, longest and talking to numerous, colleagues about this,i just didn't see any signal that things, would change even after a stay for, another year levels were not defined, clearly three senior managers told me,three different processes for promotion, nobody knew it was actually the right, process and managers were there just to,judge performance they weren't there to,lift the teams and elevate them to the, next level even some of the most, talented colleagues who we all knew, internally carry tick-tock they also, faced many challenges and weren't,promoted into leadership positions so i,felt that support in my career growth, was non-existent number two culture,to give you a sense of what work is like, tick tock is owned by bite dance which,is a chinese company that is about over,a hundred thousand people you might have, heard of 996 culture from china which is,working 9 a.

๐Ÿ”ฅWhy You Should (NOT) Join TikTok, or ByteDance ๅญ—่Š‚่ทณๅŠจ, Management Career in Tech By Yolanda Yu

Following the ban by US government and also India,ย  Bytedance is now coming to singapore and looking toย ย ,hire over hundreds of people for the next threeย  years, and singapore seems to be the next headquartersย ย ,outside china for their global expansion. Also onย  linkedin alone i found over 53 jobs. I think theย ย ,latest was actually just one day ago. So okay nowย  let's discuss why you should join bytedance andย ย ,also why you should not. Let's start with why youย  should. Number one, you may not know bytedance asย ย ,a company but surely you have heard of tiktok orย  you might have used them which is a high chanceย ย ,um so bytedance is the company behind tiktok and it's the currently the most valuableย ย ,startup in the world. Today it's backed by aย  few big names including softbank and sequoiaย ย ,so based on the information from cb insightsย  that was in april 2020 and they were valued atย ย ,140 billion. Of course that was before the u.s banย  but even if considering that impact it will stillย ย ,be definitely the number one given that numberย  two are still far away ,they have a very strong competitiveย  edge in terms of technical capabilitiesย ย ,so again in the cb insights version the companyย  is categorized under artificial intelligence whichย ย ,was to my surprise, because it could have beenย  categorized as online content entertainment socialย ย ,media or even into you know conglomerates with education and all that so however onย ย ,the second thought this makes a lot of senseย  because everything the company does is thrivingย ย ,on its superior recommendation algorithmsย  and that makes the engagement sky highย ย ,number three bytedance says many of their productsย  are born with global audience in mind and theyย ย ,have indeed also launched or acquired products inย  many countries including the us brazil japan indiaย ย ,and also southeast asia so this young companyย  was founded in 2020 headquartered in beijingย ย ,the founder zhang yiming was saying he aspires toย  have a company as borderless as google so indeedย ย ,as google has proven to be technology seems toย  be crossing borders much easier without havingย ย ,to stumble through the cultural barriers andย  just like tiktok today is actually availableย ย ,in more than 150 markets and 75 languages and evenย  2 billion downloads of course if you compare thatย ย ,with facebook's 16 billion downloads they'reย  still shy but consider how fast the companyย ย ,is growing recently and also how young itย  is it's not surprising that many people sayย ย ,tiktok has the potential to rival facebook inย  the future number four so this is not what i sayย ย ,but on glassdoor almost everybody isย  saying that the company has great cultureย ย ,smart people and a flat structure um veryย  good space scope for learning as wellย ย ,so one thing i observed interestingly though isย  that a lot of these people are actually from theirย ย ,indian operations i'm just wondering i don'tย  know how many of those operations are still inย ย ,force today lastly i think this is a very goodย  timing to to join from organizational structureย ย ,perspective it looks like bytedance is trying toย  formalize a kind of global organization outsideย ย ,china so which means they are also tryingย  to build an international talent reserveย ย ,um that is what alibaba tencent haveย  been working on in recent years as wellย ย ,so uh given many chinese companiesย  main field is still in china the kind ofย ย ,overseas ventures are usually just a lot ofย  times they're just ventures without officialย ย ,or significant organization dedicated to theย  international business then the overseas staff canย ย ,be a bit sidelined in the sense that it's hard toย  get resource or because of the location it's hardย ย ,to get the trust and sometimes the headquarterย  might just decide to terminate the entire missionย ย ,pull out the operations because they don'tย  really have a long-term strategy in mindย ย ,but in bytedance's case i think the hiring ofย  kevin mayer was already a good sign that theyย ย ,do have good commitment in the overseas businessย  on the other hand also my guess is their currentย ย ,structure might be more of a product centricย  um and also a bit of a patchwork with all thoseย ย ,independent acquisitions around the world so itย  will be a time where the company is going throughย ย ,a lot of sort of restructuring effort and thenย  it would be a good time to join them now let'sย ย ,look at why you should not join them first of allย  there is always a risk related to every move andย ย ,obviously many things have happened in the pastย  few months with new CEO joined new CEO resignedย ย ,in the u.s the entity was forced to be closed andย  sold new suitors emerged and then refused to sellย ย ,all this right and now oracle has come up to sayย  there will be a partnership that happens althoughย ย ,i won't be buying the key algorithm so it's almostย  like a drama every day there's a new developmentย ย ,so you see when the com a company is caught inย  between a world of sort of political cold warย ย ,between two mega powers eve

What Was Your Degree In And What Do You Do For a Living Today? | Hot Tik Tok 2021

What Was Your Degree In And What Do You Do For a Living Today? | Hot Tik Tok 2021

what was your degree in and what do you,do for a living today,my mom is gonna be so proud of this one,my family and i moved from korea to the,u.s when i was six years old they're,very traditional, very religious very conservative so i,worked really hard to fulfill their, american dream i got my,mechanical engineering degree from uc,berkeley worked at amazon as a,mechanical design engineer building, kindles and dash buttons, realized that i was living my parents, dreams and not my own,so i quit and for the past six years,i've been building smart vibrators that, help people learn more about their own, bodies, sexual pleasure and sexual wellness, sorry mom, what was your degree in and what do you,do for a living today,my degree is in physics and i'm a virgin, what was your degree in and what do you,do for a living today, first i joined the canadian armed forces, then i got my bachelor of arts degree in,economics,my gpa put me in the top 10 students in,the entire faculty of arts, now i drive a truck you know what love, this job, freedom get to do what i want run some, nice equipment, sit down listen my music all day and you, know,i make more money in a week than a lot,of people that graduated university, making an entire month, you don't need to go to school to get a,good job trades are fine, what was your degree in and what do you,do for a living today,my degrees in astrophysics my final, thesis was on gravitational radiation,30 years before it was discovered but,i'm a full-time carer for my youngest, daughter have been for a few years, and today i'm making christmas, decorations what was your degree in and, what do you do for a living today,i went to college all four years and i,was a genius and decided to major in,animation and illustration got out of,college and now i work at a doggy, daycare where i pick up poop and mop up,pee, all day what was your degree in,and what do you do for a living today so,my degree,is in political science i graduated from, vanderbilt university in may of 2020 and,i'm currently an associate product, marketing manager,at google i think it's really really, funny when people tell you have to major,in something that you know is 100 going,to make you money, because the average policy major i think, makes like anywhere from 50 to 55k,like post grad and i make double that i,studied what i,liked and i networked hard and i don't,regret studying what i liked because i,love politics and being the person in,the room who knows what's going on about, politics is something that i genuinely, enjoy, your degree in and what do you do for a,living today, get ready for this change of plans so i,went to harvard for my bachelor's in,mechanical engineering in mit for my,master's,in aerospace engineering for three years,i was a rocket scientist working on,rocket engine design, and i decided that i didn't want to work, the rest of my life and only have two, weeks of vacation a year,so i sold everything i had and moved to,the jungle, now i live off-grid in a mud home and am,a holistic nutritionist, and a freelance editor for college, applications, both undergraduate and graduate i work, way less, and make way more and am so much happier, what was your degree in,and what do you do for a living today it,took me 11 years to finish college, and i am not a doctor of anything,i started out as a philosophy major i,thought to myself, philosophy well then i need to know, greek so my very first college class, nine in the morning on a monday,at the university of minnesota, was 16 year old me with a bunch of,doctorate students, the best i've ever felt getting a c fast, forward and i was living on the fifth, floor of a dorm where they didn't let,you use the elevator,so one day walking up the stairs i,realized this isn't high school i don't,have to be here so i quit,i went to school to learn to build, guitars everyone i was in class with was, better than me and they were going to be,my competition so i quit that too well, actually i finished school but i never, became a luthier then i dabbled in,linguistics for a term or two, can't remember and finally ended up with,an english lit degree so that i could, know what a bildungsroman is,and all of that so that i could sell, jigsaw puzzles for a living, that tracks what was your degree in and, what do you do for a living today so i,went to university for a scuba diving, instructor program yeah but you guys, didn't know you could off that hard, yeah and i didn't really i didn't get a,degree or anything they gave me like the, scuba diving certificate and i failed, the course and then i moved to mexico, for a while, and i did like a bunch of cocaine for a,bit and then i started doing stand-up,comedy and then, the pandemic hit now you can't do comedy,so now i started making tick tocks, now follow me you idiots what, was your degree in and what do you do,for a living today,my degree was in biblical, which i got because i wanted to be a,pastor but my education actually caused,me to become an atheist,it's not a lot of demand in the, workforce for an atheis
