Could TikTok be completely banned in the United States?
joining us now to talk Tick Tock and, other tech companies that are facing, government scrutiny as former FTC,commissioner mozell Thompson mozo good,to have you back on it seems hard to,believe I think it's the most popular, social media app by a large margin maybe, maybe second to Instagram who knows is,there a chance that it vanishes, well I think that,it'd be difficult for the government to,ban it entirely,um there's one thing about banning it,from government devices because the, government owns those devices it has, supposedly has control over those, devices but for the entire public I,could see there'd be some substantial, legal challenges now from what I,understand the administration is an,ongoing discussion about how to,um how to protect the data of Americans, from possible intrusion and uh and used,by the Chinese government but they're,still in those talks they have been for,a while we'll see how that turns out I,think that they're concerned about what, the legal ramifications are if uh if,it's not a negotiation settlement, would a settlement include moving the, server let's say you're Tick Tock you, don't want to go away in America you're,based in China why not just move all of,your servers to the United States get, them out of because that's the concern, the concern for people who don't get it,it's very simple Tick Tock is a live, microphone and live camera and it takes, your phone's data and theoretically, sends it back to China which every, company we know has a quote special, partner which is the Communist party,it's like a live camera in everybody's,house in the United States that's a,little bit weird but you get it,is there I mean could they just move it,to the U.S and end it,well I think that's part of it part of,it is where the firewall is so that you,can move something to the United States, but if there's a clear pipeline that, goes back to China or China can access, that information whenever it wants to or,uh in ways that are surreptitious that, would pose a problem for American users, and for security interests of the US so,I think it's a little more than just the, location of the data and where it's,collected it's un it's the circumstances, under which someone else can get access,to it as well, there is so much legislation that is,kind of either currently working its way,I'm Just a Bill type thing through,Congress or is on somebody's bench, they've all got typical DC names Moselle,American innovation and choice online, act the open markets act which probably, means it's not the American data Privacy,Act the protects speech act the, protecting speech from government, interference Act,what are those and what are they going,to do which one do we need to be nervous, about, well it's interesting,um I think that you're right there are a,lot of them there on the books and, they're at various stages of development, what's interesting is though there's,been a lot of talk there's also been a,lot of internal,um,uh discussion in other words it's not, been 100 pro or Con on both sides of the, aisle and in both houses so you notice, that none of them has been none of them, have been passed and most people predict, what's coming next year is going to be,even more gridlock to the extent that,um there are closer margins between the, interest in house and the Senate and you, have two different parties controlling, two different segments of the government,so I think that most people think that, the things that will that will wind up,in actual legislation are going to be uh,hard to come by especially the ones that, are dealing with Anti-Trust things that, deal with larger market regulation like,uh like um things dealing with content, censorship Etc but where you might get, something it's some common understanding, about the baselines of privacy, especially when it deals with children, and that's where you might find some, great greater consensus let's hope let's,hope that would be a bipartisan, keeping our children safe online act it,shouldn't be hard, you think so well you never know Mozelle,Thompson have a great new year thanks, for joining us on the special

The US Government is Lying To You About TikTok...The Truth Revealed!
The US Government is Lying To You About TikTok...The Truth Revealed!
a new bill from Republican senator Marco,Rubio aims to ban Tick-Tock in the U.S,the legislation is an escalation of a,recent move by Red State Governors to,eliminate the app from State devices,Alabama and Utah are the latest to join, the effort it's 2023 and tensions are, rising between the United States and,China and one of the companies that, faces an intense amount of scrutiny and,is facing a potential ban inside the,United States is Tick Tock one of the, most popular social media apps in the, world in today's video I'm going to,reveal to you the real reason the U.S,government wants to ban Tick Tock and,I'm going to be honest with everybody, this has absolutely nothing to do with,National Security in fact it is actually, something much more simpler than that, but why don't we start today's analysis,by examining how Tick Tock is being, presented in American Media today and to,do that I'm going to show you a recent, interview on CNN Republican lawmakers, primarily are using Tick Tock as the, face of the Chinese government now this,of course is a hundred percent false in,order to be the face of the Chinese, government that company must be owned by,the Chinese government and bite dance is,in fact a privately held company inside,of China and many people actually, believe that China's government owns, every single company that of course is,false and if you just do a little bit of,research you can understand how bite, dance the parent company that owns Tick,Tock is actually structured this is a,great article from the Harvard Business,Review entitled how bite dance became, the world's most valuable startup it was,co-written by Rhema who is an,outstanding China Tech Insider and, inside this article they reveal how bite, dance became the world's most valuable, privately held company again this is the,key Insight here is that it is a,privately held company it is operating, inside of mainland China but it is not, owned by the Chinese government but, let's go back to that CNN article and,see how Republican lawmakers are, influencing American public opinion and,so to show to their constituents which,is very popular right now to have a hard, stance on China to show to their, constituents that they're taking this, hard line stance they are basically, saying we want to ban 10 talk and using, this as a vehicle to deliver that, message to their to their base and this,is exactly what Republican lawmakers are, doing they are essentially using this, ban of tick tock as a way to show,Democrats that they are being very, strong and ironically this is the only, thing that unites both Republicans and,Democrats inside this country being, strong and being anti-china and this is,a very dangerous thing moving forward in,our society let me show you another CNN,article that further illustrates this, point this is an article entitled Tick,Tock is digital fentanyl incoming GOP,China committee chair says and this is,the interesting thing the Republican, lawmakers again are telling the American, public that Tick Tock is a dangerous, tool used by the Chinese government to,brainwash the American public they want, you to believe that Chinese social media,is very evil but American social media,is pure clean and there's nothing to,worry about of course we all know that, nothing can be further from the truth I,found this article from MSNBC which, really pushes back against this,Narrative of all of these U.S lawmakers, trying to ban tick tock the title of,this article is U.S lawmakers obsession, with Banning Tick Tock continues and the, very last paragraph shows a very, interesting Insight lawmakers and others, who Focus singularly on Banning Tick,Tock as though it represents a unique, level of danger compared to other social, platforms show us how little they, actually know about the pitfalls of,social media now let me give you some, concrete evidence that Tick Tock is,indeed not a national security threat, inside the United States and I'm going,to take you back to September 14th 2022,and this is a written testimony that was, given before the United States Senate, committee and the person given this, testimony is Vanessa Papas who is the,Chief Operating Officer at Tick Tock and,one of the major concerns for tick tock, inside the United States is where is the, data being stored many people fear that,U.S data is being sent to beijing's,government and the Chief Operating,Officer immediately answers this, question here's the question from the,U.S Senate what are the locations of the, servers and data centers overseas where,Tick Tock transmits U.S user data she, responds take talk has long stored U.S,user data and data centers in the United,States and Singapore as well as in,cloud-based services offered by Amazon, web services the Google Cloud platform, and Azure which is owned by Microsoft if,we skip to the bottom paragraph a,hundred percent of our us user traffic,is now being routed to the Oracle Cloud, infrastructure this is clear and, concrete evidence that U.S user data is,not being sent to Beijing in fact al

Gravitas: U.S. moves to ban TikTok
Gravitas: U.S. moves to ban TikTok
is Tick Tock a Chinese surveillance, system is Tick Tock spying on you trying,to control your mobile phones, the United States is now trying to ban,the Chinese video sharing app American, leaders are convinced that the Chinese, app must be deleted and banned for good,a bill has already been passed in the,U.S Senate by a Voice vote it bars, federal employees from using tick tock,on government devices,it's only a matter of time before the,ban gets a nod from the House of,Representatives and gets U.S President,Joe Biden's signature, well that will that be the start of the,end of tick tock,I don't know how many of you are, familiar with this notorious app story,it's history, let's rewind China exported Tick Tock in,2017 soon it brought musically and, transferred its 100 million users to,tick tock, tick tock's growth has been unmatched, ever since it is the world's most, downloaded mobile app since 2020.,it has more than a billion users, worldwide in fact in 2012 Android phone, users alone spend 16.2 trillion minutes, trillion minutes on tick tock, let that sink in,you know there is a reason why Tick Tock, clicks with a young audience globally, this app turns average videos into Uber, cool films, and unknown people into celebrities, overnight Sensations or even influences, also Tick Tock is easy to watch, but is this a rat trap, was Tick Tock a net thrown by China to,hook youngsters and steal their data,Tick Tock is dangerous and I'm not even, getting into the deadly Trends or,inappropriate content, cyber bullying, tonight let's just stick to the problem,of data breach and spying you see as you, spend sleepless nights on Tick Tock, scrolling through the app during work, hours you must ask is your browsing, pattern and your data falling into the, wrong hands, chances are high very high, you see Chinese law mandates the breach,of private data bite dance and all other,Chinese tech companies are required to,share their information with the,Communist Party of China,it is compulsory, which explains why India did what it did,Tick Tock was banned from India in 2020,India was tick tock's largest market and, now, the doors to this Market are forever, closed for this video sharing app,two years and a few more months later,America is trying to play catch-up,the app has more than 100 million users,in America, several American states have already, banned Tick-Tock in government devices,Maryland is the latest, what were America's concerns a threat to,National Security same as India,in June this year BuzzFeed reported that,by dance had access to U.S consumer data, the next month the director of America's,Federal Bureau of Investigation said, that Chinese Espionage is the greatest,long-term threat to America's economic, vitality, earlier this year audio files were, leaked from tick tock's internal, meetings, what came out of these files surprised,no one,a member of tick tock's trust and safety, department Was Heard saying and I'm,quoting everything is seen in China, think about that statement, then there was a director who was heard, referring to a Master admin, someone who is based in Beijing, the director went on to say that the, master admin quote-unquote has access to,everything, then something happened last month the, head of the Federal Bureau of,Investigation said that China could be,using Tick Tock to influence the app's,user, that's a scary thought, was China could possibly be using Tick,Tock to control the user's Electronics, and the result is this this bill, there isn't much that Republicans and,Democrats agree on these days but China, and Chinese surveillance somehow always, managed to find bipartisan support, good for America not so much for tick, tock or its parent company bite dance,so what has Tick Tock said,it has called the band politically, motivated adding that the move will, quote unquote do nothing to advance the,National Security of the United States, for years Tick Tock has refused claims,of a data breach it maintains that data,of American users is stored in America, the information is not passed on to the,Chinese Communist Party, but that's a story the world is,increasingly facing trouble believing, the world seems to be finally Fed Up of,tick tock and that's not good news for,China, you see Tick Tock is the first,consumer-facing app from China to take, off at such a big global scale, for Beijing Tick Tock means Pride, for the world outside China Tick Tock, means threat,in 2021 an investigation was launched in,Ireland which was aimed at looking into, the transfer of personal data to China, earlier this year the UK Parliament woke,up to the threat of tick-tock,it shut down its Tick Tock account,British legislature said and I quote, data security risks associated with the,app are considerable adding that the, data of the 18 million British Tick Tock, users is routinely transferred to China, another scary thought, earlier this year a U.S Australian cyber, security firm published a report on Tick,Tock it said the app's data collection, was overly intrusive no surprises there, the report went

How Soon Lawmakers Could Ban TikTok In The United States
How Soon Lawmakers Could Ban TikTok In The United States
to Washington now where a group of,lawmakers have introduced a bipartisan,Bill looking to ban Tick Tock here in,the U.S the legislation follows warnings, from the FBI and cyber Security Experts, who say China could use the social media, platform for spying for more on this, let's bring in NBC News Capitol Hill, correspondent Ali Rafa Ali good morning,to you so first of all explain to us how, this bill came together who's sponsoring,it what exactly is in it,yeah good morning Joe well the Trump, administration had been calling for this,uh for years but was unsuccessful in,doing this this is also something that,Florida Senator Marco Rubio has, championed for a couple years now and,has been calling for but it wasn't until,uh Democrats across the aisle and the,Biden Administration started also, sharing these concerns that this really, picked up steam you know just in the, last few weeks alone we've heard from uh,treasury secretary Janet Yellen FBI,director Christopher Wray raising these, concerns about Tick Tock and its parent, company a bite dance and security, concerns over how American user data is,being shared with possibly the Chinese, government so yesterday we saw Rubio, introduce this bipartisan bill the bill, also has a partner on a partner bill on,the house side that's being championed,by Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher, and Democratic Congressman Raja, krishnamorthy and it's called the,anti-social CCP act it aims to stop the, operation of tick tock and that parent, company the bite dance Nationwide over, these concerns that the Chinese, government is using this user data of,American users and sharing it with the,Chinese government for possible,Espionage purposes uh Senator Ruby was, saying that that sharing of data is,something that's actually required by,the Chinese Communist party so this is,something that has been called for for a,while now but like I said has been steam, over just the last few weeks Ali you, mentioned some of the past concerns, including from the Trump Administration, some states have actually taken the step,of banning it from government employee, devices remind us here why is there this, sense of urgency in getting this passed,on Capitol Hill now and also what's Tick,Tock saying about all this, yeah actually uh States like Utah,Alabama,Maryland have all passed this, legislation Banning Tick Tock from these, government devices and there have been, calls for this uh four years but this, really picked up steam uh as soon as the, bite Administration started to raise, awareness of this uh there's already an,ongoing National Security review of tick, tock uh but this has really taken a,while to see bipartisan support for this, legislation then meanwhile you'll have,Tick Tock who is saying that they are uh,working on not not having these uh user, the American user data being stored in,Chinese data centers they're saying that, they are working on having that data, stored in us-based data centers they, said in a statement yesterday also that, they'd continue to brief members of,Congress on those efforts for them to be,able to store that data uh on the,American side so Ali let's talk about, what's next when might this be voted on,and if it does pass what could be the, impact,so it's still unclear where this is,going to go and when this is going to be,taken up in the future,um it's it's still pretty telling that, this is a bipartisan bill that's gotten, bipartisan support but considering all,of the things that lawmakers are going,to have to do during this lame duck, session before a new Congress is sworn,in in January it's unlikely that we see, some significant movement of this bill, before January but it is telling that, this is like I said getting bipartisan, support if this does pass it could get,it could have major impacts we know that,Tick Tock is one of the most popular, apps across the world specifically uh in,the United States it has around 80 or 90,active users this is a huge news source, for a lot of Young Americans so this, could definitely have some big, implications if it does pass in Congress, all right Bally Rafa Ali thank you so,much, thanks for watching our YouTube channel, follow today's top stories and breaking, news by downloading the NBC News app

Will TikTok get banned in the US?
Will TikTok get banned in the US?
joining me now with his take is Oklahoma, senator and Senate Homeland Security,Committee Member James Lankford Senator, welcome to the show always great to see,you can we talk to you Tick Tock because, this is something that President Trump, had moved was moving forward with he,wanted to ban it uh he felt that it was,a national security threat to the United,States and and now we continue to have, these conversations and and that, sentiment is being revised tell us so,here's the big question do we want the,Chinese Communist party to be able to,have access to every single teenager to,individuals the young people that are, using Tick Tock to any age using Tick,Tock this would be the equivalent thing,do we want them to be able to own a,hospital where they could get access to,every single medical record for, individuals do we want to be able to,have access to all kinds of personal, information that people would actually, share on a tick tock platform if we know, the Communist Chinese government gets, access to all this information why would,we give them access to personal, information for all of our citizens,Senator Lankford it's very popular here,in the United States you know with the,Gen Z Community with many others as well, that have bought the line from bite, dance that no and no pun intended we,have a Chinese wall the information in,the United States does not come back to,China however you know there's evidence, that that's not necessarily the case,so if you are a Chinese company you're,connected with the Chinese company the, rule in China the law in China is,they've got to have access to all of,your records welcome to a communist,Nation we lose track at times if it goes, through China it's going to the Chinese,Communist Party they're going to have, access to whatever they asked access for,so by dance can say we're totally, separate we just happen to run it,through some servers in China but we're,unconnected on that that's just hard to,be able to believe okay,um I want to switch gears for a moment, because the story obviously we've been, covering on this channel,um FTX Sam bankman freed arrested and, there's a lot of questions concern over, the donations I'm obviously charged with, one of the charges is that he misused, customer funds some of those customer, funds were used to make campaign, donations uh to Democrats and,Republicans but more Democrats and in,larger sums your thoughts on what's,happening right now with respect to the, charges against him and how this is,going to play out if and when he comes, back to the United States, well obviously he should face the judges,he should face the music for his actions,uh he made decisions to be able to use,the the funds from one part and to be,able to use it for other purposes and, then to be able to apparently use that, for his personal uses for his, condominiums for his vacations and then, also to do political donations as well I,think anyone who had any connection with, him in any way with this company should, look at those political donations and, return them uh we understand that,President uh Biden in the donations, actually came in his campaign number one,was George Soros and number two was this, entity and uh so if we're if we're going,to talk about where it's going to go,let's talk about where those dollars, went what they were designed to be able,to influence and to be able to make sure, those entities actually received them, send them back yeah,um you also just got briefed your office, from DHS regarding the termination of,title 42 so I want to get your take on,on the latest yeah title 42 is always, going to be temporary it's a pandemic, issue on trying to be able to block out, individuals coming across the border,Trump used it exceptionally effectively,to be able to stop illegal immigration, across the border President Biden, stepped in and slowly started turning it,off and now on a court has said you've,got to turn it off entirely on the 21st,of December this Administration has, known for a year and a half at least, that it was going away and they've said,we've got a plan we've got a plan we've,got a plan now it's the week before we,just did a briefing with them today they, have no plan they have no idea what, they're going to do they're trying to,figure out now what happens there's,literally tens of thousands of people, lining up on the southern border waiting, for the morning of the 21st of December,so they can start coming across in,massive numbers and this Administration,is gearing up what they're calling, better processing centers so they can, move people across faster and into the, country rather than having a plan to be,able to turn around the bite, administration's plan always has been, and we've seen it clearly to increase, illegal immigration into the country, there's no way you have two and a half, million people illegally across the, country and not say that wasn't their, plan was to increase illegal immigration, now we're seeing that even more with the, very predictable title 42 ending in them, saying

House of Representatives has banned Tick,Tock from official government devices,it's an order that mirrors a provision,in the Omnibus spending bill that was, passed last week that will ban Tick Tock, from all federal devices joining us now, with more on this is Anish Chopra former,Chief technology officer for President,Obama currently president of care,Journey Anish it's good to see you,um thanks for having me Federal devices, just only recently got the capability to,send text messages as part of their data, plan so how many devices do you think, really have tick tock on them and is,this just more of a symbolic move about, where the government stands yeah this, represents a sort of a policy signal but,the main attraction is going to be how,uh the cepheus committee the committee,on foreign investment in the U.S worked,to mitigate security threats with Tick,Tock so we're going to see uh States and, other government agencies acting as,employers basically encouraging, employees not to access certain uh,products and services tiktok being the, most recent I remember in my early days,in the White House I couldn't access any, social networks from government, computers so that's not particularly new,but the civius review has been going on,for the better part of three years and,now it seems that Congress and states, are taking matters into their own hands,so,if it's sending a message to cepheus, what what is that message and does it,light a fire under the committee to,announce a conclusion sooner rather than, later,I'm pretty confident the committee is,focused like a hawk on this issue and, they're largely likely working on,mitigation measures for security risk as,we know they're really two primary risks, with Tick Tock one is U.S user data, being exfiltrated in some ways shape or,form by those in the Communist party uh,in China and so there's a concern about, data privacy and use and then separately,it's the actual algorithms themselves, which are really the heart and soul of,tick tock which might be manipulated for,a potentially political purposes, especially if there's an opportunity to,infiltrate or influence U.S policy, towards say Taiwan, but behind the scenes there are reported, conflicts between where different, agencies stand on this matter with the, journal saying that the Pentagon and the, justice department are now pushing for,an outright sale of the U.S operations,of tick tock while the treasury,Department had been placated by simply a,you know a data localization policy or,something to that effect so how do these, debates play out behind the scenes and, which if any of these agencies holds, more clout in the debate, well the process is run by the treasury,Department but it's got a heavy National,Security voice at the table I would say, generally speaking uh just for your, viewers to understand why we're in this, predicament there was a U.S based, company called musically which was, acquired by Tick Tock and normally when, cypheus is involved it's the companies, involved in a merger proactively, inviting cepheus to review the, transaction and then render a judgment, kind of best and final frankly if they, had done that back at the time of the, acquisition I think 2018-19 I'm not so,sure they would have had much of a,challenge it's unclear at the time how, much of a national security threat it,was because they didn't seek that, opinion scipius has the ability to kind,of Look Backwards and say you never, asked for our help and this is subject,to cyphia so there's a little bit of a,opportunity for more prolonged, negotiation my best estimate is we're,going to see a lot more of that data, localization strategy with some uh focus,on what we can do to make transparency, around the algorithm itself which is the, heart and soul of the intellectual, property so that's probably where the, debate is right now
