Is TikTok a THREAT?

- If you're a smartphone enthusiast,,you've probably heard about, big name Chinese phone manufacturers like ZTE and Huawei, being restricted from the US market.,So, it may not be terribly surprising, that a Chinese app has now come under fire as well.,I'm talking about none other than TikTok, the app best known, for poorly singing teenagers and viral dance offs.,(laughing, exclaiming),But why is TikTok, of all things,,suddenly under so much scrutiny?,Well, certain US officials have described it,as a potential national security threat.,(silly music),But how could that be?,(silly music),Well, the reason the US and some of its allies, are so concerned about Chinese technology,is the possibility that back doors, could be built into Chinese-controlled software or hardware,to allow mass spying against Western citizens and interests.,And although Huawei, for example, is a private company,,they've faced criticism in the past, for getting too much support, from China's communist government,,leading some to worry that their communication technology, could be used for shady doings.,Now, TikTok is also owned,by a private Chinese company called ByteDance,,and, like Huawei, they're not officially,an arm of the government in Beijing.,But the concerns about undue influence, from Chinese authorities remain.,For example, China forced ByteDance to shut down,a different app centered around memes and videos in 2018,,simply because it didn't like the content.,ByteDance then issued a statement in which it attempted,to appease the Chinese communist party,,and promised to hire party members, as well as increased, the number of employees working as censors.,So it looks like fears that ByteDance, might end up becoming pressured,to be a tool of the Chinese government, aren't completely unfounded.,And while it's true that US tech companies, have gotten in hot water, with the American government before over content,,not to mention the NSA surveillance revelations, that came out some years back,,Chinese lack of data protection laws,or an independent judiciary with due process guarantees,,as well as China Internet security law,,which gives the government very broad powers,to collect data from tech companies,,has raised concerns that it would be,far easier for the Chinese communist party,to get its hands on any data it wants, from ByteDance and other domestic technology firms,,even if the data itself was collected, and stored outside of China,,as ByteDance claims is the case with TikTok.,But, of course, that's a lot of speculation.,Is this actually what's going on with TikTok?,Well, so far, there's no evidence, that the Chinese government has collected data en masse, from TikTok or its users.,And even if it did, it's important to look at,what kind of information they'd be getting.,TikTok does collect IP addresses and location data,,but lots of apps do the same thing.,Instead, it's far more likely, that more valuable information,,such as financial records and physical addresses,,would come from other sources,,such as security breaches of government agencies,,as well as the Credit Bureau leaks, that we all found out about in 2017.,But another potentially huge issue with TikTok,isn't related to data collection,or the use of the app as a way to hack phones or networks.,Other huge social media platforms,,namely Facebook and Twitter,,have faced criticism for being slanted politically,,or not doing enough to control the flow,of misinformation about sensitive topics.,And there's a fear that the Chinese government,is already using TikTok to control and spin conversations, about issues that people care about,by forcing ByteDance to, well, dance to its tune.,In 2019, there was a report, that TikTok moderators were being forced,to restrict negative comments about the Chinese system,,as well as content related to the Hong Kong protests and,,unsurprisingly, about the Tiananmen Square Massacre of 1989.,But, regardless of what TikTok,does or does not have the potential to become,,both the US army and Navy have banned the app,,and the State Department is said to be looking,at a nationwide prohibition.,India, which has also been,at loggerheads with China recently,,has already banned TikTok,,citing similar national security concerns.,I just wonder what will happen,if it does get banned in the US.,There's probably gonna be a lot of really upset Gen Z-ers.,But, instead of voicing their displeasure at the ballot box,,maybe they'll find a way to resurrect Vine.,I miss Vines.,I'm kidding, I don't miss Vines,,that was just in the script.,I never really got it. But I'm old.,Speaking of old, these sponsor segues never get old.,Check out Private Internet Access,,the VPN that masks your IP address, and encrypts your Internet traffic.,PIA has reliable service, with over 2,700 servers,in 47 countries, and no bandwidth caps.,They offer configurable encryption, and an Internet kill switch to keep you in control,of your connection and your privacy.,And when you combine PIA with private browsing,,yo

Why This Data Expert Says TikTok Isn’t Safe

Why This Data Expert Says TikTok Isn’t Safe

how safe is tik-tok Jennifer Lopez,Elizabeth Warren and the cast of High,School Musical are just some of the, famous spaces having a blast on the, video sharing app but are all these fun, dances challenges and pranks as harmless,as they sound there are serious things, that we need to consider about the, analyst Fergus lion things tick tock may,not be what it seems I I know I sound, like the fun police it's a great app,it's just unfortunate that it's owned, and operated by a company that has the,Chinese Communist Party looking over, their shoulder all the time, tik toks parent company bite down is,based in China and it's just one of the, many thriving tech companies in the, country very innovative but the Chinese, government knows this and in recent, years they have taken many steps to make, sure that they have ultimate control, over these tech companies and the way, they do that is by ensuring that these, tech companies have Chinese Communist,Party committees running inside the, companies and they have oversight over, what the company is doing that doesn't,necessarily mean that they're making the, business decisions or making sort of,granular decisions about how certain, apps work but it does mean that every, time these companies are making new, products they always have the Chinese,Communist Party looking over their, shoulder fight dance was most recently, ordered to take down their new workplace, messaging app face shoe under claims, that users could access posts on,Facebook and Twitter through the app, those platforms along with others like,YouTube and Google are banned in China,so why should tick tock be any different, they want the platform to be light, entertaining and funny and they have, made several statements about how they, don't really want it to be a political, space now that may make sense back in,China by law and because of the, censorship system that operates there, they have to censor a lot of political, speech, many believes that censored content, includes videos of the pro-democracy,protests in Hong Kong or anything, related to the LGBTQ community it may be,an uncontroversial thing in China for, these companies to say hey we don't want, politics on our platforms we just want,it to be entertainment that just doesn't,work outside of China these companies as,they expand out into the world they, can't just accept that consumers and, citizens around the around the world are, going to accept that those same that, same censorship logic is going to be,acquired - then take talk however denies, the censorship telling Inside Edition, calm diversity is one of the core, strengths of the tic-tock community and,we could not be prouder of our large and, active LGBTQ user base privacy as a,concern for consumers is also something, that may not translate as the app goes, global,in a country where mass surveillance, both on the streets and online is,commonplace it's safe to assume that, applies to the data collected by,tic-tock and if you have any doubts just, take a look at tic TOCs Terms &,Conditions tik-tok requires the user to,accept a huge number of permissions now,a lot of those permissions on your phone, make sense it's a video sharing app so,of course it wants access to your camera, but there are other permissions that it,requires that are a little more puzzling,so for example permission to access your, location data on your phone the GPS,coordinates of where you are and when, you look at how the app works that, doesn't seem to make a huge amount of,sense because there's nothing in the app, that indicates where you're located, makes any difference over how you use,the app or how the app responds to you,so a lot of that data is being vacuumed,up by tic-tock and the concern is that, that data is being sent back to Beijing, now tik-tok has said that the data is,being stored in Singapore and the United,States and is not stored in Beijing but, that does not mean that beijing-based,engineers are not accessing that data in,order to make that better now the reason, why that is a worry is because in China, there is a whole suite of national, security laws that that say if you are,an individual or a company you have to,cooperate with the authorities on,intelligence gathering work so there is,no firewall between these companies and,the data they hold and the Chinese, authorities but that means that this, data all of this data that this app is,collecting could be used by Chinese, intelligence services and you know the, data that these apps collect it really, paints a very very vivid picture of,everyday people's lives what you do,every day what time you wake up where, you go who you talk to this is very very, valuable information for foreign, intelligence services Ryan says it,doesn't just stop there it really is an,AI company it is it puts a lot of,emphasis on the data collection it does, and how it crunches that data so it's,not just looking at what hashtags you,use it's looking at your face it is,analyzing your your face and feeding, that into a facial recognition algorithm, they may ev

TikTok Is Worse Than You Thought

TikTok Is Worse Than You Thought

it wasn't always obvious in 2018 an app, called tick tock came from nowhere back, then tic toc seemed like just another, mindless app for teens where teens and, creeps would lip-sync to insipid,drug-like songs but in a matter of weeks, something changed youtubers commentators, the media tick tock became the new gold, rush to me the app looks ugly with a,logo that didn't look quite right but i,didn't want to be out of touch and me,being curious i eventually caved and, downloaded it and just like that,i was hooked my mornings would be taken,up by 30 second videos my evening stolen,by the buffet of dopamine i couldn't put,it down the endless scoring the constant, dopamine heads i had no control i'd look, around me parties gatherings cafes, everyone was watching tick tock i'd go,online to find tick-tock reaction videos,on trending i'd be bombarded by,tick-tock hats wherever i went i'd walk, around my city to see tick-tock logos, graffiti as tick-tock dances everywhere, this was revolutionary tuk-tuk had, achieved the impossible tit-took had, taken over the world no one could escape, its secret formula instant entertainment, constant doping unlimited content, nothing could compete tick tock was, perfect, little did i know,we were walking into a buzzsaw, after hours of extensive research i fell, down a tick tock rabbit hole and the, further i went down this rabbit hole the, more horrifying things became as what,i'm telling you today has been ignored,by almost all of the media almost all of,the influences and all of the corporate, elites and at the same time governments, around the world are beginning to,understand the true scope of what's,going on so let this video be a warning,to everyone who's downloaded this, insidious app and join me as we cover, the raw and unfiltered truth behind tick, tock,a question do you never want to be bored, again do you want fame, money to not feel left out,for success to come sooner this is how,it begins through tapping into your, innate biological desires tiktok has, been able to achieve 3 billion downloads, but behind our addiction to this app is,something sinister because on the back,of your constant scrolling and chasing,of dopamine someone has transformed a,lip syncing up for teens into the, greatest cyber threat in human history,so the question is,who, well to answer this we need to go back,to 2012. back in 2012 vine was the, closest thing you'd get to tiktok and, whilst vine was kind of big most people, phoned for facebook instagram and, youtube because in this time it seemed, like silicon valley was on the verge of,something great unprecedented to the, size of change we were so caught up with, our own creations that we never gave, china a second thought but back in,beijing something was bubbling under the, surface a creature called by dance now,by dance wasn't just any old tech, startup it was a startup directed by a,man named zangie ming and it was also a,startup that was littered with chinese, officials zhang's first movement by,dance was to create a news platform, called headlines but rather than this, being any old news platform that pays, for editors and reporters fight dance, was putting their money into creating, the most powerful advanced ai technology, imaginable an ai system more advanced, than anything seen before it this was no,accident in this time the chinese, government had a strong desire to make,ai a priority in the race for global, tech dominance but why was china so,obsessed with ai why was the chinese, government so involved with working with, this unknown tech company to answer this, let's take a quick look at what bite, dancers ai technology was capable on,this new site there wouldn't be a,curated feed of editors controlling the, flow of information headlines instead, use specially made ai algorithms to,select and push the news robotically, with the company never having to hire a,single reporter or editor to test this, highly developed ai system by dance, released the out of the chinese market, and almost immediately the algorithm, worked its magic in a matter of months, headlines became extremely popular in,china with the site gaining 10 million, users in just three months there was, only one issue all content that wasn't,aligned with the government's core, socialist values would be a legal, offence which meant there would have to,be at least one editor that's why baidan, has been so fast to publish a statement, thanking the state for its supervision, making bite dance the first ever ai,generator propaganda machine it was the, embryonic site for much darker things to,come,it's 2016 and the chinese government is,inching towards technological dominance, but if they were going to overtake, silicon valley they would need to expand, their ai technology across the globe, because back in the mainland ai proved,to be an incredibly effective tool for, controlling the population, they're constantly monitored by facial, recognition cameras that are able to,instantly put a face to a name, now the chinese are also ranked, given a mark out of a poss

Is TikTok Safe To Use?

Is TikTok Safe To Use?

hey everyone it's technology expert, burton kelso here with another tech tip,to help you get the most out of the, technology in your life and today we're,talking about tick-tock and is it safe, who knows but it's going to be fun doing,a video about it,tick-tock's been in the news recently, because,u.s department of defense, and several i think one or two congress, people have said, google and apple need to remove it from, the app store, because it's out of china, but,it's a complicated path and i think we,need to start back with the story of,tick tock not that i'm going to go that, far back and kind of explain, how we got here so with that said, let's look at tick-tock,now tick-tock's been around since,2016 believe it or not started as a,dance app called, doyan i think that's right do you endo, yen but anyway, that's,uh the app that it was called in china, but in the us it's called tic tac but, let's look at the similarities so that, you can kind of get an understanding how, mainland china uses tick tock versus the,us uses tick tock,so,i think i'm gonna have to move captions, down a little bit so let me get rid of,that, there we go now you can see the whole, thing,so,do yen, which is,tick-tock,is only accessible in mainland china as,you can see but of course tick tock is,accessible all over the world except for, china it doesn't really make a lot of,sense does it anyway it's has,the chinese app has a little bit more, features as you can see advanced live, streaming features group live streams, screen recordings and voice comments, whereas, tick tock in the us has basic live, streaming features stream chat q a lives, with only one,co-host so,du yen if i'm pronouncing that right, looks like it's more of a party app,in china as opposed to the us whereas, you and a co-host on the app, now, looking at,the desktop again to see what else, one last thing so about 75 percent of,the users are below ages thirty five,so in china,du yen or doyen is a millennial indian,z-dominated application whereas in the,u.s,it's a gen z,so a lot of millennials aren't on,tick-tock,it's more, generation z but i think more and more,in the u.s,gen z,is going to be overtaken by millennials, because more and more older people are, using, the app, there i am,let's see if we can get those captions, back so that you can see what i'm,talking about there we go so anyway, obviously, the the other issues are not issues but, other features that you can do on tiktok,it's like it's like any other social, media app so i mean you can send, messages back and forth i mean it does, have a direct message feature,uh it has uh likes and,all that other stuff you can, scroll you can do all sorts of things,on the app,and i'm trying to show here we go,yeah so,it's just like any other social media, app out there other than, tick tock is definitely more video based, than some of your other social media, apps so obviously facebook twitter you,can do text but tick tock definitely, wants you to utilize video and of course, one of the other hot features about,tick-tock is the ability to use popular, songs, when you're doing video,on tick-tock and, don't necessarily have to do dances but, people do all sorts of activity with, tick tock in order,to make it fun and engaging because, obviously that's the point of any other, social media app out there but what's,the big problem with tick tock well, one of the biggest issues is that, the app is,out of china,so it's almost like the whole kaspersky, thing when you think about, and, software being outside the country is,the government, involved,in,the development and are they monitoring, information on that app and, that remains to be seen but you should, know, with any other social media app out, there that, you are going to have, the app developer spying on you because, obviously user data is how these apps, are free,so it's the old adage of if it's free, then that means you're,oh i forget the words it is but anyway,it basically is saying, that if you're using it for free then, you're the product rather than the, product, being available for you so there's all, sorts of information that tick tock's,collecting like for example, where your pictures are taking how often, you look at videos and what types of,videos are you looking it's also, monitoring when you post and just, gathering information from your other, apps as well,so like any other smart social media, company, they are targeting to,people who want to advertise on tick, tock and so they need to have a good, description of,their follower base so that they can, offer a robust package, for those, advertisers to know what people or what, types of,people that they need to target with, their ad so you're going to have the app, spying but as far as chinese spying on,the tick tock app, there's really no concrete evidence, saying that, the chinese government is,spying on tick tock in fact tick tock, recently moved one of their servers to,the u.s too so they you just can't say, well,it's only chinese related so yeah the,cia did some investigation with tiktok, and couldn't find a

Panorama Is TikTok Safe

Panorama Is TikTok Safe

it's the social media sensation,of lockdown targeted at teens i spend a,lot of time doing the dances,i'd say i'm addicted to tic toc it says, its mission is to inspire creativity, and bring joy and though it clearly can, could tick-tock also be putting some, users at risk,if you're looking at a lot of kids, dancing sexually and you interact with, that,it's going to give you more kids dancing, sexually, predators unfortunately know where the, children are hanging out, they know that that's where they can, interact with them tonight on panorama,we investigate how the app can expose, children to harm, some of the stuff i've seen on there, makes your hair,go white it's a completely inappropriate, environment for children and ask,how safe is tiktaar he is,saying he wants to show you a body part,he thinks you're 14 he's 34. that's not, okay, three two one, this is a new generation of celebrities, known as bite squad they moved into this, house at the start of lockdown,it's run by their management company, they spend their days making videos like, this one, dancing to the latest viral music trends, and then they post them,to tick-tock you need to put hashtags in,and then you just post it,they get more than 70 million views a,week though,if you're over 25 you may not have heard,of them, because many of their viewers are still,at school,we normally post from like four until 10,because like on a school day they come, home at like four years they're on their, phones,so we just catch them then to get better, engagement, today we had 2.3 million views in total, the more views they get the more money, they can make through product promotion, deals, just how quickly has ticktock changed, your lives one video can really just set,you off and like suddenly make you this, known person you can just, blow up randomly i've know that's what, happened to me anyway so unpredictable, yeah like sometimes you can put like the, bare minimum in,have a bit of laugh and it goes viral, more than any of your other videos, you've ever done, fight squad are influencers their fans, don't just watch their videos, they copy them a lot of what they post,is upbeat, feel good content i'm bored again so i'm,going to be dying my head i'm bored, again i'm probably going to be dying my,hair i got bored again and i dyed my,hair,a blend of pranks dances and body, positivity videos, tiktop makes it easy for anyone to,upload their own videos, from the elderly residents of a care, home in yorkshire,to a-list celebrities,on tick-tock dance crazes can spread, around the world, sometimes in hours the app now has over,700 million users including, one in four bricks it's become the, fastest growing social media platform of,all time, and has brought huge success to tick, tock's chinese owner, bike dance headquartered in beijing is,thought to have made more than two, billion pounds in,profit last year and its 37 year old, founder, chiang ming is reportedly now the 10th,richest man in china earlier this year, tiktok targeted the uk with its first, ever tv,ad selling itself as a place where, dreams come true,16 year old tash werblow is one of the, many teens who've bought into that dream, she films herself copying dance trends,to songs like this,so say i'm addicted to tick tock i,spend between two to four hours a day, during the pandemic however i spent, between, seven to eight hours which is a lot do,you think you want it too much, yes definitely how does it draw you in,you just keep on scrolling like you just, you just lose track of time whilst, you're on there you could be on there, just scrolling and scrolling and i spent,a lot of time like doing the dances, how does your mum feel about you being,on tiktok she doesn't really know much, about it i guess,um she just knows it's really just like,a form of social media, and i think she's fine with it like some,of the most popular tick tock trends, this dance is based on a sexually, explicit song, this version that went viral had the, explicit language removed but the song,it's based on,describes sexual acts in graphic detail, and the dance moves make the meaning, clear,i wonder what tash's mum soon thought, about the song her daughter was, performing, sue can i ask you to take a look at,these lyrics and read them out,oh god because you even want to say it,not really oh gosh this sounds awful, dance on the now you've been served i,like it with a little bit of curve, hit this with an upper cut call that, captain hook, nah tash are you familiar with those, lyrics,it was a popular song at one point,on tick tock did you copy it i think i,did but i obviously didn't say any of,the words,i just did the dance so you didn't mouth, the words no of course not, many parents think it's harmless fun, what's your impression now, sorry you can't go on tick-tock anymore,my impression before was that tick-tock,was a fun thing, but now i think it's not what i thought,it was, tick tock says it has a family pairing, feature, that allows parents who have accounts of,their own to link them to their child,a restricted mode to limit the,

Joe Reviews TikTok's Crazy Terms of Service

Joe Reviews TikTok's Crazy Terms of Service

the jurogan experience oh my god i read, tick tock's terms of service i went down,a tick tock rabbit hole yesterday yeah,it's good i stayed home smoked a little, weed and i started reading up on tick, tock yeah oh my god i'm gonna read you, this because this is so crazy is it good,or bad bad it's so what are you saying,it's a bad place to be listen to this, this is uh from tick tocks privacy, policy all right it said we collect, certain information about the device you,use to access the platform, such as your ip address um,user region, this is this is really crazy uh user, agent mobile carrier time zone settings, identifier for advertising purpose model,of your device the device system network, type device ids your screen resolution, and operating system app and file names, and types so all your apps and all your, file names all the things you have filed, away on your phone they have access to,that file names and types key stroke, patterns or rhythms so they're,monitoring your keystrokes which means, they know every thing you type, wow battery state audio settings and, connected audio devices where you log in,from multiple devices you will be able,to use your profile information to,identify your activity across devices we,may also associate you with information, collected from devices other than those, you know you use to log into the, platform meaning they can use other, computers that you're not even using to,log into tick tock they can suck the, data off that that's what you're,agreeing to,when you download and start using tick, tock, that's wild it's insane my question, would be do you think they did that they, created tick tock just on purpose to,have all that 100,wow i think they saw that people are, addicted to social media and they came,up with the most addictive version of,social media which is tick tock it's the, most addictive by far it's the best for, sucking people in my my kids are ,hook line sinkered on that and i,know a lot of other people hook line and, secrets to grown people it's good it's,good and it starts playing things, immediately the moment you turn it on,it's like playing you a new thing, playing you're like, you just sucked into it and all the, while it's monitoring your keystrokes, your audio settings but by audio, settings that means it has access to,your microphone that means it's,listening to you right now just tell me,how it ends man it ends with china, having all of your data, and if they develop if they get all the, data currency then what well you're,because if they look what's going on in,china i don't know if you've seen this, but they they pulled tanks in front of,banks to stop people from ,rioting because they just took all their, money did you see all that, yeah did you see that ,oh my god they have shut down people's,accounts and they're doing a social, credit score system in china and they, have digital currency, videos of tanks shows chinese military, exercise not bank barricade yeah, according to china and the ap but if you,see what what's going on over there with, the digital currency what they have is,the ability to tell you you can't buy, gas, like hey theo we don't like the way, you're living your life so you're not, going to be able to buy a plane ticket, china's a dump man,i mean there's cool people and i like, some of the food but,i think that i think it just i don't,know i don't like the way they're doing,it all, what any military exercise they're doing, when they're putting tanks in front of a,bank is intimidation at the very least,do you think the people there even know, what freedom is anymore you think, they're just so brainwashed they've,never had freedom like we have so no i,mean they weren't even capitalists for a,long time right it was a communist, country and then they realized you know, what in order to compete we got to,loosen this up a little bit and let some, people get greedy and make a shitload of,money and that's what they did they kind,of have a hybrid of capitalism and, communism you know because in the old, days it was like the government would, tell you what you do okay the government, would tell you what you get paid all, right and you just did what you had to,do you did what you were told right but, what they do now is they allow people to,get extraordinarily wealthy so some, people they develop industries they, develop businesses and they work in,conjunction with the government like, every business that exists in china say,it's a tech business, you are an arm of the government you you, know you're not independent from the, government like that was the the the, concern with huawei, like when they were trying to when they, banned huawei phones from being, distributed in america do you know about, all that i don't think so it's not the,gas station they no that's that's uh,wawa right what is that, you're talking about flip phones it's,it's it's a h,no they have super complex okay um,smartphones like huawei it starts with,an h,huawei had some amazing phones oh huawei, huawei okay, okay um and they had amazing phones that

tiktok is the most downloaded app in the, world known for short viral videos it,has tens of millions of users in the u.s,oh i'm so over these gas prices in order,to operate successfully tick tock, collects a lot of data it tracks account, information search history any content, created through the platform along with, users locations and behavioral, information, companies like facebook and google, collect similar data but there's one, major difference, tiktok is based in china china has a,national security law that compels every, entity within its jurisdiction to aid,its espionage and what they view as,their national security efforts this, means chinese companies are required to,make all data they collect available to,the chinese communist party no,exceptions brendan carr a commissioner,at the federal communications commission, says that includes all the personal, information tick tock's been gathering,on millions of americans at the fcc,we've also taken a look at other, entities uh beholden to the ccp whether,it's huawei zte china mobile, and we see just a history of nefarious, conduct from business industrial, espionage to blackmail there's a lot of,reasons to be concerned not about the, videos but the underlying data going, back and mass to china an investigation, into the national security implications,of tick tock was first launched by the, treasury department back in 2019 then in,2020 president donald trump threatened,to ban the entertainment platform if it,didn't sell itself to a u.s company,bye-bye,through it all tick-tock maintained it,had never shared data with the chinese, government and insisted the information,of american users was secure being, handled only by u.s based teams then in,june buzzfeed got access to a collection,of leaked tapes from internal meetings,at tick tock and they told a completely, different story they had people inside, tick tock saying everything is seen in,china, they had a master admin person who again, was was disclosing that there was almost,no checks on what could go back there, tiktok went on damage control and, recently assured concerned republican, lawmakers that new steps are being taken,to further secure american data, including the transition to a u.s based, cloud services provider that they say, will soon be used to operate the app as,well as store american users personal, information, while it sounds like a step in the right, direction tick tock ceo also admitted, some china-based engineers will still, require access to the app which by law, grants that same access to beijing with, that data china is able to feed it into, its artificial intelligence systems is,also perhaps able to compromise america,a key part of the work that will still, need to be done in china involves tick, tock's algorithm china expert and author, gordon chang says that's the biggest, security concern of all through the, control of the algorithm china is able,to influence american public opinion,we know that in 2020 the chinese, military used tick tock to incite, violence on american streets, tick tock, drug usage in america and there are, other things that they've been doing to,interfere in our political process in a,rare show of bipartisan cooperation, lawmakers are now saying enough is,enough to have this kind of information,in a sense be vacuumed off a tick tock, into uh the communist party china and, what they have been doing with them,a lot of technology and data acquisition, scares the dickens out of me it's time, that,we put a halt to this right now the, senate intelligence committee recently, sent a letter to the federal trade, commission requesting an investigation,be launched into tick-tock chairman of,the committee senator mark warner says,he believes the evidence against the, company is overwhelming senator rubio, and i have said, all right federal trade commission this, completely falls into the area of a,deceptive practice that's what we have a,law,to prevent and you need to do the, investigation meanwhile the heads of the,fbi and the united kingdom's mi5,recently issued a very clear warning, about the threat posed by china the most,game-changing challenge we face comes, from the chinese communist party,it's covertly applying pressure across, the globe, this might feel abstract but it's real, and it's pressing,we need to talk about it,we need to act, senator warner says one step lawmakers, can take immediately involves passing, data privacy legislation he points out, this may be the last bipartisan issue, that can be addressed ahead of midterms, caitlin burke cbn news washington, you

TikTok is Destroying a Generation

TikTok is Destroying a Generation

okay finally back from vacation so it's,time to start back in with a somewhat, normal routine first things first i'm,thinking about changing the channel name,to just upper echelon instead of upper, echelon gamers the content wouldn't be,changing at all just the name so let me,know your thoughts down below with that, out of the way let's discuss tick-tock,because i believe that the app is,verifiably impacting almost an entire, generation of the human species in a,decidedly negative way before getting, started i want to go on a bit of a,tangent here september 22nd 2020 i,posted a video to the channel titled why,i hate tik tok now ordinarily this would, have just been like any other video but, this time it actually wasn't when, posting content on youtube there is a,number of different viewership patterns, that can occur the most common format is,a large initial spike and then eventual, plateau when the content has been viewed,by your subscriber base subsequently, dropping out of algorithmic favorability, afterwards that's the most common format, for this channel in particular and for, many others on the platform as well, however the most common format is not, always the most desirable the best, viewership pattern is usually called, evergreen content and it occurs when a,video becomes embedded in the algorithm, and ranks highly enough in popular, search terms or general browse features,to continue gaining traction over time,in a very reliable way this type of,content is effectively the holy grail, for us creators because it can result in,hundreds of thousands or millions of,views over the span of years some of my,red dead redemption 2 guides way back in,the day achieved this level of indexing, and are now crossing the multi-million,view threshold with reliable results for,the past 36 months at least making, content that achieves this level of,tenacity is not exactly easy or,predictable and for me personally it's,only happened a handful of times one of,those times was september 22nd 2020. the, video i posted the video titled why i,hate tick tock pushed beyond my average, view count on the channel and continues, even now to climb well beyond most of,the other content that i've ever posted, normally i wouldn't even notice but over, the past few weeks a variety of,different factors have aligned which, made me realize why that occurred and, spurred me to once again discuss the, topic this time defining why i believe, that tick tock is effectively a viral, form of societal poison and it is well,on its way to destroying an entire, generation it all starts with the advent,of internet dominance early stage, internet usage and functionality was, largely relegated to scientific research,military-industrial projects and,fail-safe protections during the cold, war but in the early 1980s something, changed at the start of 1983 a new, protocol was established tcpip which, allowed different kinds of computers on,different networks to communicate with, each other this is widely regarded as,the unofficial birth of the modern, internet age and this fundamental, building block is what allowed nearly, everything else we know today to become, possible the internet became a staple of,modern life commerce accounting security, entertainment all of it but in tandem to,these utility driven industries there, was a social aspect early examples like, six degrees or friendster paved the way,for superior projects like facebook to,arise in 2004. as of 2021 there were an,estimated 4.6 billion internet users on,planet earth and 4.1 billion of those, users use social media further stats can,be found that describe user habits such,as the staggering revelation that users, who participate on social media, platforms utilize on average over six, different options in their daily lives, average daily usage time is over two, hours and if someone began their social, media journey at age 16 for example, using the platforms until age 70 or,thereabouts they would spend nearly six, years of their life on these websites, all of this is to establish one crucial, idea social media has become an,integrated part of our lives and when, the average user one of over four, billion people is spending more time on,social media than they do eating or,drinking combined on a daily basis it,signifies that this activity has become, something larger than a simple hobby, social media on average again has become,a primary piece of our very existence, why does this matter simply put it,matters because of the detrimental, effects from 2013 to 2017 scientists in,denmark observed that collective hashtag, longevity was steadily decreasing in a,study titled accelerating dynamics of,collective attention it was discovered, that the average duration of a hashtag's,trending dominance in the top 50 for, example had decreased from 17.5 hours to,11.9 this alone does not constitute, definitive proof that our attention, spans are shrinking but in a further, study titled abundance of information, narrows our collective attention span, that connection was well establ
