-John, you do
so many cool things.,Like, I am obsessed with
the trajectory,of your life and career.,But obviously wrestling is
such a big part of your life.,Did you wrestle
from a really young age?,Have you been doing this
your whole life?,-I come from a family of --
I have four brothers,,and it's five boys, and yes.,-Sounds like fun.,
-Yes.,I have been fighting
my entire life.,We formed a wrestling league
in my basement at age 5.,-Mm-hmm.,-To which I was
multi-time champion.,And lo and behold, I kind of
parlayed that into a career,in the WWE, which I became
a multi-time champion.,-Oh, well, no big deal.
-How about that?,-No big deal.
,See, when I --
'Cause obviously huge fan.,When I used to watch WWE,
you had a very signature look.,It's very different
from how you look right now.,And I think --
I mean, a little bit different.,-A little bit.
-A little bit.,But you used to have --
-There were jorts involved.,-Jorts.
,-Thank you very much for
laughing at my fashion sense.,I appreciate it.
,That's fair. They were jorts.,-But you had
a signature buzz cut too?,-Yeah, yeah.,-And you kind of evolved
from that.,But I got to ask -- are
your fans, your wrestling fans, that are so used to this one
particular image of John Cena,,do they ever get upset
that you are now,this buttoned-up,
long-haired person?,-They won't ever get upset.
They always get upset.,-Okay.
,-Yes, I -- so in trying to
become a storyteller on film,,the more versatile you can look,
the more jobs you can get.,There's only so many places
a 6', 250-pound dude,with a crew cut can be placed.,So people were like, "Maybe
if you grew your hair out,,we could style it a certain way
and make you look, more threatening or less
threatening, or whatever.",I was like, "All I got to do is
grow my hair out?",I'm like, "Well, even if it
doesn't really grow,on the top of my head?",And they're like,
"Yeah, don't worry about it.,We can fake it.
Don't worry about it.",So I did,
and everybody was like, "No!",-You've changed!
-Really.,No, I got massive amounts
of hate.,-Really?,-I mean, like online, it's
a pretty dodgy place anyways.,But, I mean, it came in.,I'd ruined people's childhood.,They'd never think the same.,Like, seriously -- You would --
you would think I went and gone, and done something
really foolish,,when I just really
kind of went and gone, done something really foolish.,-Yeah.
,-So I grew my hair out,,and I just caught
a lot of flack for it.,-Well, I think you look great.,-No, it was cool, because I was
like, "You know what?,I'm just gonna stand up to this.
I'm just keeping it like this.",-Oh, wow, dang, that's right!
John Cena in your face!,
-Whatever.,-Speaking of online, one of the
things I absolutely love of you,,one of many, is
your Instagram game.,I've been following you
for a really long time.,And if you follow John,
you know this as well.,You never, ever post captions
with your pictures.,Yet your pictures are
so random and confusing.,-I have also never posted
a picture of my face.,-You've never posted a picture
of your face?,-No.
-Okay, I want to take,a look at some of your posts.
We have some of them right here.,So this is something you posted.
This is the whole post.,-Yeah.
-And there's no caption.,
-Yeah.,-What was going through
your mind when you did this?,-Oh, this one's simple -- the
day before Instagram went down.,
-What?,You did this the day
before Instagram went down?,-No, no, the day before,
Instagram went down.,So this is an image everybody
got to see the day before.,And I was like,
"Yo, I'm gonna blast out, that Instagram went down
on Instagram.",-That's deep. That's deep. Let's
take a look at another one.,Explain this,,and then I'm gonna give you
my two cents on this.,-I want your two cents first.
-Okay, my two cents is this.,My favorite chocolate ever
is Reese's peanut buttercups.,Reese's, not Reesie's.,If you say Reesie's,
we're not friends.,It's simple as that, okay?
,It's Reese's peanut buttercups.,But here's my beef -- is that
there are so many variations,of this chocolate that annoy me
because this is,the perfect ratio of peanut
butter and chocolate, okay?,This original one.,Then you got the king size,
you got the sticks,,you've got the eggs,
you got them --,and all of those annoy me
the crap out of me,because it throws the ratio off.,You know what I'm talking about.
,There's either
too much chocolate,or too much peanut butter.,I have strong feelings
about this.,-So, I'm gonna kind of embrace
those strong feelings.,- Okay.,-And say that there was
a time in my life, where I ate a lot of Reesie's.,-Alright, thank you so much
for joining us tonight.,That's all we got
with John Cena.,-So, I used to eat --
my go-to meal of enjoyment,was Reese's king-size cups,
but I know.,I know what you're gonna say.,Just do me a favor.
-Okay.,-Put your hand up.
-Okay.,-Exhibit "A.",So, to me...
-Fair. Very fair.,-...king-sized is
like a normal cup.,-I love that.,That's what Instagram's
all about -- expressions.
Let's move on to the first section of john cena instagram
I Accidentally Became A Meme: You Can't See John Cena
I Accidentally Became A Meme: You Can't See John Cena
i accidentally became a meme and here's,that story hey i'm john cena wwe, superstar in the cast of the upcoming, movie vacation friends on hulu and above, all else i am an internet meme,in order to explain the origin of these, memes i first need to explain how i got, into sports entertainment this all, started for me in 1989 as chuck d would, say you wouldn't guess it for how i'm,dressed now but i dressed a little, different as a kid rap music was, becoming extremely popular the beastie, boys run dmc nwa,i was from an area of the world that, didn't care about that but i did i loved, the rebellious nature of the message i,wasn't going through any of that, struggle but i really liked its loud, brash approach the music just spoke to,me so i began to be immersed in rap and,hip-hop culture and for that in an area,of the world that wasn't so immersed i,got my ass kicked every single day and,the core of the abuse was just hey dress, like all of us,and i think at a young age instead of,folding i doubled down and went even, more ridiculous to get even more of my,ass kicked so as a way to defend myself,i asked my father for a home gym this, was at 12 or 13. my grandfather, convinced him and i got it for christmas, began working out christmas day and here,we are 32 years later and i haven't,stopped i followed wwf in the 80s as a,young kid and i did not get into sports, entertainment with any idea that i would, ever make it to the wwe i just really, wanted to do it so even doing small, shows at flea markets in los angeles and, northern california tijuana if there, were five people there in a ring i was, probably there it was a way for me to,justify my nine-to-five existence so i,could enjoy a weekend hobby the toughest, thing for anyone in entertainment is to,somehow find a way to captivate an,audience you have to create a,personality for yourself and invest in,that personality and hope people get it,and my character was a prototype half, man half machine and 100,rotten it was so bad but i was invested,in it and it was enough to catch the eye,of a scout to send me to kentucky so i,got to be an understudy of one of their, prominent performers and then i made it,to wwe,and the first thing they said was like, drop the prototype cut your hair and be,a good guy so i debuted as john cena, the most stale unentertaining character, you could imagine and was just about to,be fired after a year and a half of me,trying to connect with the audience and,on what was supposed to be one of my,last tours when we go overseas we all, travel together and in the back of the,bus people were freestyling and i,remember i just went back and joined in,and in the front of the bus the creative, department a few people were like hey,how did you remember all that like well, the concept behind freestyle rap is you, just kind of think on your feet and, they're like would you want to do that,on tv yes i do,and it really gave me a chance to invest,in costuming, mannerisms delivery personality i'm not,the most technically proficient guy i'm,not the biggest aerial performer but i,really love the make-believe aspect i,really genuinely do and the storytelling, aspect and, being the rap guy i bought in all in and,i mean like did rap battles in the, parking lots of arenas and they'd bring,in rappers for me to have freestyle, battles with and i didn't win them all, like i'd get burned i'd get scorched and, there were some that i would win and it,was fun and interactive imagine this the,one thing that i got my ass kicked for,as a teenager, dressing different and embracing hip-hop,culture was the catalyst to me,connecting with a global wwe audience we,were in production of new theme music, for the john cena rap identity so we,recorded about like 85 songs keep in,mind they're only like 16 on the you, can't see me album and i remember, hearing this one beat and it was the, beat for my time is now,the build-up to the crescendo and the, horns and the brass and the heavy hit of,the base like it had, everything and we would always use my,little brother as kind of our litmus, test because he was a really harsh, critic and if he enjoyed it i knew we,were okay and i remember him just going, like this, and like, getting lost in it and i think he was, doing what was i think the tony yayo, dance at the time where tony you would, put his hand in front of face and shake, his head and i was like dude what are,you doing and it was ridiculous he's,like i'm doing the yayo dance i'm like, okay i'll do that on tv to pay homage to,you liking the beat because i'm gonna go,with this for the song and he dared me,and on the dare i was like yo i'm,definitely doing it so instead of doing, the yayo dance i kind of did the reverse, because i figured it would be more, visible to to show my brother on tv like, hey i'm doing the thing that you dared,me to do you can't see me is kind of a,way to talk smack in hip hop culture if,like you're not on my level so i kind of,put the two and two together just really, trying to make one person in west, newbury massachu

The best advice John Cena has ever given me
The best advice John Cena has ever given me
What is the best advice that
John Cena has ever given me?,How long do you have?,>> Allow me to bestow on
you some veteran advice.,>> The best advice John Cena has ever
given me is not what he told me,,is what he showed me.,He showed me that you never stop
being a student of your craft.,And once a champion,
you're always a champion.,Again, so you always act like a champion,
you talk like a champion and,you live like a champion.,For me after SummerSlam at a conversation
with John Cena that just gave me so,much enlightenment was so positive.,And he gave me words of wisdom and gave
me gyms that are gonna stick with me for,the rest of my career,
>> Best advice John Cena ever gave me,twofold.,The first thing was rather recently,,I was going through
a polarizing time in my career.,We were getting for the first time ever
a let's go Cody Cody sucks type thing.,>> >> And,he very eloquently told me to
be honest with myself as to,why a crowd would react that way,
look in the mirror.,And if you feel you're doing
the right thing, keep doing it.,Second piece of advice is if the crowd
starts making any noise, in any capacity,,start clapping their hands they
start stomping their feet.,If they want you to fight back something,
anything They have to reward.,>> Cody Rhodes has come alive as crowd
behind him every step of the way.,>> You have to give them something,
whether it's just coming to your feet or,whether it's just showing the intent,
that fist, there has to be something.,>> Like the best advice he gave me
is not advice John gave me by voice.,It's seeing John set the example as
a WWE superstar and for example,,when I first started in WWE and he and
I were having matches I told them how,big a fan my son was of him
>> You fighting John Cena?,
>> I eventually had the opportunity to,bring Owen to meet John and
John had a two page handwritten letter for,my son, which was incredible.,And my son to this day, it's one
of his most cherished possessions.,I had a show and tell at my daughter's
school where we talked about career day,,and I was telling him about
how I'm a WWE wrestler.,And of course,
did you ever fight John Cena?,I did.,And then snowballed to me trying to
FaceTime him in front of the class.,He didn't answer, but within an hour,,I was able to send a video for
the class that he sent.,>> John and
I have gone through a lot together.,Big match John has taken me
to the limit many times and,he has shown me truly what it
is to be a main event star.,What it means to be Seth Freakin Rollins.,>> One thing that John
is is extremely honest.,And when I was struggling before when
I couldn't find myself he'd say, well,,I don't know who you are.,And because of that it made me look
at myself and examine who I was so,that I could develop something that
was recognizable to the audience.,And I think one thing that is advice that
he has has given me is always be honest.,And I think that's with yourself, with
the people you're doing business with,,with the audience.,And so once I listened to that no and
the other no, and,I put everything together,
it just, it worked.,>> The number one thing I always took from
John Cena is he showed me what it takes to,be a main eventer through media.,The never say no attitude.,John literally taught me that.,John watches every match.,And if you go backstage If you ask
John Cena, hey, did you see my match?,He'll say yes.,Do you have any advice?,And he'll give you advice.,>> If I had just one word to describe
John in general, it would be here.,Everybody wants to wear shades and
be cool and sneer and be a bad guy.,John was the ultimate good guy.,Ultimately, I mean the word
I wanna use is babyface but,I don't know how far this thing goes.,>> His dedication to our fans
is unmatched and I've really, tried to be that way myself because if
he has time I don't know how I would.,>> John Cena is a master in
the art of professional wrestling.,>> I don't think people realize just how
good John Cena is I mean GOAT level.,John Cena is GOAT level.

John Cena | Steve Austin's Broken Skull Sessions | Full Episode
my name is stone cold steve alston, welcome to the broken skull sessions my,guest today john cena, and we've been talking for 15 minutes, john's on a tight schedule squeezed my,ass in here right before they go live at,5 p.m here in los angeles and i wasted,15 minutes because i had the pause, button push but we thought we were, talking and it sounded real good guys, you missed some great stuff we,found the meaning of life, the first thing i want to say then now, that we are recording is i want to say, congratulations on on a hellacious run, your run that you're currently seemingly, right in the middle of because i see you, know three six or however many years you, want to keep going in front of you or,whenever you put the brakes on but, you're putting together one of the best, runs in the history of our business, and it's been through i everybody knows,i do my uh show for the working man and,you have worked your ass off ever since, you got into business and i remember one, time back in the day i was stoned cold, don't remember the building you had been, you just had a match you was the, prototype yeah, yeah that was a long time ago it might,it might have actually been either here,or anaheim now who would have figured, yeah i think it was yeah i think it,still goes down, worst dark matches in the stream, and now here we are and that's uh man, jews how long is that it's probably 14,yeah,just about 14 years ago yeah and you was,a good looking kid and uh we had words, and uh can't remember what exactly it,was i didn't know what the prototype was,but obviously you look good, and but didn't have the gimmick figured, out yeah it was just uh,right as i broke into the business just, trying to just trying to find out what,it's all about what was the thought, process behind the prototype um you know, what you know the uh the cat chris bell,uh of the bell family uh mark bell's,brother yes uh saw me in gold's gym and, said what are you doing wasting your, time here i was just working uh,literally i'd show up to work at five in,the morning and i lived in my car, outside so i'd shower in the gym at,night and do whatever i'd pretty much, hunt till midnight and do everything, from work to protein bars stand to work, check in to fix equipment everything in,there right bell comes up to me says why,are you wasting your time and he's,referring to mark bell and known as,smelly bell and yeah and his brother, chris did bigger faster stronger yeah, and, give a shout out here to mark bell over,at super training gym in sacramento, california strongest gym in the world,he's the guy we're referring to uh so,we used to talk raw and and uh wcw all,the time used to talk wwf and wcw all,the time and they finally just said why,are you wasting your time uh,i got a guy who's training us,uh smelly was training at the time he,said if you've ever been interested in,doing this it's gonna cost you a little, bit to get in but i think you should, come down and take a look and as soon as,i saw a ring as soon as i saw rick, bassman's upw piece of crap ring i knew,i wanted at least give it a try what, were your things growing up absolutely, because you covered the boston area, right i did and uh i come from uh i,don't know,i don't think there is a normal uh,family system but i come from a family,of five boys,my dad was certainly at work and man, worked his ass off,but wasn't into watching sports he'd,never sit down and watch football on a,sunday,we would watch wrestling, and he loved wrestling my dad was the, first family in west newbury to get, cable so he could watch nwa awa world, class glow and wwf right as much as he,could and that's the only time, like i never played catch with my dad,you know let's go outside and you know, work on fielding ground balls or work on,your stance that wasn't my dad my dad,was okay let's have a battle royale in,the living room and he would you know he,would be in it and he just killed his,dad in the world it was it really was, awesome uh but growing up in a small, town, you know we were the one pro wrestling, family in the small town so,we beat each other up and you know we'd,try to be as uh i guess as energetic at,school and it just uh oftentimes didn't,fit hey what kind of student were you, good grades um,i wasn't going to make dean's list but i,wasn't a,trouble i definitely wasn't a,troublemaker but did you have to crack, the books and apply a little bit effort, but you just kind of got by uh if i look, back i wish i applied more effort right,so i wish i had done a little bit better, but i learned uh i went to boarding, school as a junior and a senior so i,lived away from home at age 16,and,the lessons i learned about life from 16,to the time i finished college,so much better than anything i could, learn in the classroom well but so then, what was that being self-sufficient,yeah just just not uh,not having that, safety blanket there to fall through you, know i went to um preparatory school on,on financial grant so i was one of those, there's rich kids that go there and, there's poor ki

-Yeah, yeah, yeah.,-You look fantastic.,-I mean, this is the first time,I have seen you
in like eight months, man.,-It really is, yeah.,-It's very special.
-You got all dressed up.,-And you didn't.
,You repeatedly like, "I really
value our friendship,",and repeatedly on this show,
you hurt my feelings.,-Yeah, I know, I do.,Yeah, but, no, the thing is,
most of my guests, for the past six months have
been in pajamas, so this is --,-These are my pajamas.
-Oh, wow!,You really sleep in
some fancy stuff, man.,Congrats on everything
that's going with you.,I can't even tell you
what it means to us, to me,that you would come on the show.,We've known each other
for a long time.,We've done a lot of
crazy things, a lot of firsts.,-We have.,And here's the problem
for everybody watching at home.,This is just going to end up in,
like, a bro hang.,You know, we're supposed to
do the interview.,and, like, talk about
the book and stuff,,but it's just gonna be a bro --
I miss you, man.,I love you. I miss you.
You're the best.,It's an absolute honor
to be here with you,,with you guys,
with the 12 in the audience,,the most energetic
"Tonight Show" audience,I've ever seen.,-Six to 12.
I'd say probably seven.,-Estimated 7. Yeah.
Seven sounding like 12.,-It just means a lot.,For everyone even
watching at home,,you know, you're making
a lot of people happy right now.,So thank you so much
for doing it.,-And, man, I appreciate
you having me here.,but also doing it the right way.,I mean, tested when we got in.,Everybody is social-distancing,
covered in protective gear.,I've never felt more safe.,And even -- Man, as much as I
want to give you a big old hug,,we're 6 feet and we're doing it
the right way.,So it's a start.,-Yeah, I agree. Thanks.,The last time we hung, really,
like, and bro'ed out --,-We crushed beers.
-Yeah, we crushed beers.,-We crushed beers.
-We crushed beers together.,We were in a Michelob ULTRA ad.,-Like I said, it's just
gonna be a bro hang.,-Yeah.
-Yeah. You guys were there.,-That's right.
-Brooks Koepka was there.,-Yeah, it was insane.
-What a weird dream.,-It was bizarre.
-Yeah.,-Well, I had
so much fun with you, though.,I got to spend
three days with you.,And let me tell you
what it's like to spend, three days with John Cena,,because it is just mayhem
once we leave the hotel room.,It is -- Everyone recognize --
They don't care about me at all.,They just, like, push me
out of the way, like,,"John Cena, John Cena,
John Cena!",But then you're
so nice to everybody.,I will never forget this.,A kid came up to you --
A little boy came up to you,,and he just flipped out,
like, couldn't control, his emotions and started, like,
shaking and crying.,And you were so cool to him
and nice to him.,It's, like, this --
It was just amazing to see,,and then he was like,
"Hi, grandpa.",He pointed at me, and I go,
"Yeah, I'm not that old.,I'm not that old. Please."
Yeah.,>> Well, to be honest, dude,
I'm that kid to you,,because you don't know,
like, that commercial, meant a lot to me, because that
commercial was for you.,And Michelob came to ask you
to be like,,"Yeah, we need kind of like
a mentor, coach,,get-you-in-shape,
toughen-you-up type of guy,",and you're like, "Yo, I want to
hang with John Cena.",And we crushed beers and made
a Super Bowl commercial.,Like, what a crazy life.,-We got to hang. We got to joke.
We got to sing.,Thank you for singing
"Reunited" with me.,Thank you, Roots,
for playing that.,-Just add that to the list of
crazy we've done.,-But, I mean,
what is your go-to music?,Is that --,-You know, if I'm going to sing,
it's probably, like --,I've probably had one too many, and I'm probably singing,
like, sad country.,-Really?
-Yeah.,-Oh, I love good sad country.
I think it's 'cause, like --,Like, "Friends in Low Places"
or anything by Johnny Cash,or Merle or Waylon or Willie.,-Willie. Oh, The Outlaws.
-Hank Sr. Yeah.,-Oh, yeah, yeah.,-'Cause that's like
you don't really --,I don't have much skill, so...,-Oh, please. Yeah.
-That's kind of where I live.,-We have -- For me,
it's BTS Week,,so I have nothing but BTS love.,That's all we do here.
That's all we do.,-I jam out to them.
-How about this?,So, when we were with BTS last
time, we were talking,,and I was like, "Who --
Is there anyone --,Just name someone
you would like to meet,",and they all said, "John Cena.",-Floored me.
-I know you saw that.,-Like, s
