i think confidence is just being sure of,who you,are welcome to thriving in the wild,i'm taylor stern i'm sharing what,happens when you step,into your vulnerability face the hard,things,celebrate your journey and giving you,your weekly reminder that no one has it,all figured out,it's time to thrive let's go,hi friends welcome into another episode,of the thriving in the wild podcast,the voice you just heard was jenna sims,our friend,model and actress and she talks about,confidence in her own life,and how she's also used that to help her,pageant of hope,so we'll have our conversation featured,a little bit later in the episode,but before we get there alex and i,wanted to talk about this world of,confidence,and what it looks like and what it means,and honestly as we started breaking it,down,we realized that true confidence is,really owning who you are,so alex what is owning who you are mean,to you,now looking back through pretty much,every,season where i either dealt with,insecurity,or self-doubt i really understand that,confidence is so much to do with,an internal journey more than,any kind of external journey yeah,what does that mean exactly you know,confidence isn't brought by,the perfect fitness plan or the perfect,outfit,or the perfect lifestyle true,real genuine confidence that people,can feel when you're in the room with,them,is so much rooted in someone's,self-awareness,really looking at insurance yeah,self-assurance and,and self-belief yeah because it's it,truly it's like when you,are shining with true confidence it,shines from the inside out,yeah and everybody feels it when it is,genuine,who's a person or like role model that,you think does that the best,i remember when i was like really,struggling with insecurity and,self-doubt probably the most,around the tail end of like college and,my like very very early 20s like 2021,i looked up so much to ashley graham oh,me too cause you were the one,that i was obsessed with yeah you were,like oh my gosh you have to look up this,person she's so inspiring she's so,did you see her ted talk first yeah i,think you sent that,oh my gosh it changed my life yeah,because she just,she helped to truly change the,perspective on what confidence is she,wasn't trying to peddle diets to people,she wasn't,trying to talk about ways everybody,should fix themselves,she was standing up there basically,saying hey i am so imperfect,and i'm never gonna be someone that you,should look at for,an example of you know,perfect hair perfect skin perfect body,whatever i'm someone here,who's telling you that when you,literally let yourself off the hook,and love the skin you're in with the,daily practice,you are going to feel incredible because,i feel incredible yeah,yeah so i i think i'd come across her,ted talk and if you haven't seen it,we'll link it below because,it's a must watch for everyone man or,woman,just what she talks about is exactly,what alex is saying she talks about she,kind of opens it up and she's looking,into a mirror,and she looks in the mirror and says you,are beautiful you're brave and all of,these self,self-love positive affirmations that she,genuinely tells herself every time she,looks in the mirror,you knew she believed them oh you could,feel it like you said,and so she's looking in the mirror,talking about that and then she talks,about the fact and and you can see it,right you know point blank she's wearing,a more form-fitting dress and she's just,a curvy woman,i mean i think she's what size i don't,know exactly what size but she talks,about how that doesn't even matter,that like throw away the sizes throw,away the scales whatever it is,the beauty that's inside of her radiates,outside,yeah and when you see her and when you,listen to her you can feel that,yeah and i think what you're saying too,like her message,goes so beyond just being able to relate,to,other women but it's even with men you,know,i think even when it's like a celebrity,or someone in the media,who talks about a mental health struggle,that's a man,yeah it destigmatizes this belief that,confidence in that whole journey has to,look the same for everybody,but it's so different i think the phrase,one size fits all is very restricting,yeah it's very restricting and i mean,that both literally,and figuratively in the sense where it's,like one size does not fit all,and you know ashley graham really helped,me free myself,this is a funny story so ashley was on,the cover i want to say in,2016 was her sports illustrated cover,and it came out in the spring of 2016,and then that kind of next year she blew,up,and she wrote a book and she was going,on a book tour i found out that she was,coming to dallas i was,elated and i was so jealous he got to be,there i was like,oh my gosh yes i looked into it,and so i went down to barnes noble my,friend came with me,and you had to buy the book that was,like your ticket into the line,we're waiting in line if you can think,about a line right now in covid times it,still like freaks

and,then she went on to do,soap operas and i idolized her her and,ali leforce who,we saw on tv last night those are my two,idols so,i i knew i always wanted to do like,modeling and acting,like as a career and i think pageants,were a really good stepping stone,for that that's so cool and i've seen a,few places you're,you're called a georgia peach which i,think is so cute because you're from,georgia i'm from,saskatchewan canada the prairies i feel,like you would describe me as like a,dried piece of wheat or something,so what is it what does it mean for you,you're in georgia right now,what is it yeah that's so exciting what,did it mean for you to represent georgia,at miss us at miss teen usa,it was truly an honor um,i got to do so my gosh i'm having to,like think it's been over like 15 years,i'm so old now,um oh my gosh it was my,i guess the end of my senior year of,high school going into my freshman year,of college so,my mom was super diligent about helping,me get appearances,and i got to meet some incredible people,i got to model you know for sherry hill,which is,every pageant girl's dream classic,classic and miss teen usa,thankfully the year i did it was the,last year it was on tv so i got to go,through,the whole like live production,experience and,made some of my best friends when i,moved i moved to la actually shortly,after,my reign because who doesn't these days,yes and my roommate was actually miss,south carolina teen usa,and i'm still close friends with her and,a lot of girls i met,my year during my reign that's so cool,what an experience that i mean has,obviously taken you through a very,interesting path you have started,a pageant that we'll talk about in a,little bit but it also kind of,kick-started your career into the acting,world you are an actor,you appeared on a bunch of very,interesting different shows i have to,admit i have not seen them but a lot of,listeners will know um give us a few of,like,your top favorite productions you've,been a part of,uh well it's funny right after miss teen,usa i actually had to miss my first week,of college,so whenever i whenever the pageant,happened i flew straight to nashville to,start attending belmont,and i got a modeling agent there and my,very first job,was a luke bryan music video he's a big,like country,star oh yeah so we know him don't you,worry we know we know,so it was my first audition ever and i,walked in there and i was like,i miss georgia teen usa and i'm from,team usa,and you're gonna love me and so i booked,it they're like who,is this like tornado of a human being so,i took,that job and then i ended up doing like,a ton of music videos in nashville and,then that's when i decided to move to la,that i wasn't getting any younger and,college can always hello and welcome to Drafthouse two laps,I'm Erika hey I'm Jenna this is a show,about a little bit of game review and a,little bit of play through today on tap,we have secrets cigarettes is a game of,deduction and hidden rules it is by,Bruno badugi,and Eric lang it is also the last fame,Secrets is for four to eight players and,takes about an hour less so this is a,secret,everyone's you're either Team America,Team Russia or you're a hippie these are,your three choices so is to get as many,points to win although if you're a,hippie you're trying to get the least,amount of points by scoring as many,negative cards as possible,and if your team America or Russia you,want the most points mm-hmm and within,the game you have one teammate that in,the beginning you're not sure who it is,because everybody's identity is flipped,upside down so your goal is to score as,many points or as little points but also,work with your teammate find out who,your teammate is also at the beginning,of the game you do get to look at the,player to your right their token and,your guess and you're on there's also a,token in the middle to so nobody knows,what that is but you could get that,later on in the game depending on all,the other cards that you draw each time,you draw a card and you hand it to,someone else and whoever you hand it to,has to decide whether or not there,do the action on the car it could be a,scientist you could be a politician,they're all worth different points if,you're an assassin you get a hand,somebody a bullet and the bullets worth,usually negative points so it's a lot of,figuring out who your teammate is and,who you wanna F over what do you think I,would write this a cop,however I think you need more players so,play with as many players as possible if,you have 80 people it would be a lot,that job I disagree maybe just for those,a beginner when I played this but I,thought immediately we knew who everyone,was so we're kind of like why are we,still playing because we know exactly,how this is gonna go it's not,predictable but I'm going to give it a,second try so oh I'll do spirit and I,like bluffing games but it definitely so,it's not as easy to figure out more,players would make it a little more fun,and then you can also not give it away,right up right away like we kind of did,so all right well thank you so much for,watching jackass select I'm Erica and,I'm Jenna and we'll see you later,you

hi I'm Erica and I'm Jenna and you are,watching Drafthouse select it's a little,bit game review a little bit of,playthrough today on tap we have deep,sea adventure deep sea adventure is a,press your luck kinda game where you,pick up and deliver and you have to roll,the move it's distributed by joint games,and it is by Jen Sasaki and Goro Sasaki,it is for two to six players it takes,about 30 minutes and recommended for,ages 8 and above a group of rival,explorers set out together to look for,treasure deep blue mouse there was only,one problem Jenna they're far they are,poor and they have one tank of air they,have to keep to survive on the goal is,to go out and seek the treasure but then,another problem is if one person gets,greedy it could ruin it for everybody,the game is played in three rounds you,roll the dice and wherever you end up,you get to decide if you want to pick up,that piece of treasure or not if you do,pick up that piece of treasure it does,deplete the air every time it is your,turn the more treasure you have the,heavier heavier your boat is and the,less oxygen you have so you have to,decide how far down the board game,you're gonna go before you turn back,around because depending on who's greedy,and who's not you got to figure out how,to get back in time exactly,also when you roll in the dice and also,depending on how many treasures you have,you can't go as far either let's say I,roll a six and I have two treasures I,can actually only move four spots,so it's a race to the finish line on the,survival you really find out who your,friends are mm-hmm but you're also all,into me so it's Colonel if you're gonna,die going off that's yeah I didn't make,it back in the boat so I'm the most no,why you have a sailor I dived into the,deep deep blue I was greedy I really,liked the unique concept of this it's a,game about submarines and going into the,water and treasure or what's not to love,about treasure and the board game is so,tight everything that you need to play,is literally inside this box it's simple,it's easy you can take it anywhere go,out drinking with your friends what have,you and you want to play games see my,pocket common theme about drinking and,playing these games I'm not mad at it so,we are gonna give this Oh,data we really liked and we're getting a,lot better at playing games I'm Erica,and I'm Jenna and this has been dropped,how select,you
